You do realize there is a huge difference between dying in a car accident and being killed by an orca right? Oh and just for the record - the death toll is four. Not one. Four. Four people have been killed in incidents involving orcinus orca in captivity. How many in the wild? Zero. Driving in a car takes us places and has become one of our daily routines, something we must do to travel long distances. There have always been dangers with traveling. Before we had common modes of transportation people were killed and injured on horses and in wagons. Now today we have boats, planes, automobiles, trains and the like and accidents that go along with all of those. The main difference here is that we either stay put or take our chances with these modes of transportation. It is almost a need. Seeing an orca? NOT a need. A want. Seeing one in captivity? A SELFISH want. Seeing a killer whale is a privilege and SeaWorld and other captive facilities have made us to think that this is something we have to see. We have to go to SeaWorld to make a connection and to love these animals. That's not true. I visited SeaWorld for the first time a week ago and was NOT impressed. I spent roughly four hours in the underwater viewing and Kayla did nothing but the same circle around the tank the entire time. I watched Malia regurgitate her fish not once but twice before logging at the surface and later she laid on the slideout for extended periods of time. This is not right, it's not normal.. It's so obvious how wrong this is and people refuse to see it. Why? Because it makes them feel good to stand at the underwater viewing for five minutes and then watch a show or two later. I watched Free Willy when I was a toddler and they have been my favorite animals ever since. I have donated money to the Whale Museum, contributing to their effort to help the endangered Southern Resident killer whales. I walk instead of drive, I use less water, I recycle, I rarely eat seafood and when I do, I make sure it's not overfished and it's sustainable. I did all of this before I went to SeaWorld and I didn't need them to tell me that. I don't need to see an orca to respect them and their home and neither do you.
Darienlover999 I actually knew the death count was four. I was speaking specifically about the 2010 Orlando death, cause that's the one that triggered this whole "blackfish" thing (oh and also it was only three trainers one of them was a homeless man that trespassed so that one kind of doesn't count I don't know)
Everything wrong with blackfish 1. Movie title states that non-fish creature is fish. 2. "CNN films". 3. You guys do realize that not every orca was taken from the wild, in fact, we really don't even do that anymore, that's practically ancient history. That footage you kept showing was from like the 70's. If your going to argue against something could you at least be somewhat up-to-date with all of your facts. 4. Those really small tanks Tilly was kept in was NOT at Seaworld, that was some other park in Canada that's been shut down for over 2 decades now. Tilly didn't arrive at Seaworld until after all of that. 5. Completely random scene of a trainer with a bloody face, which was apparently caused when he ran into a TV screen, not from some whale attack. There is no information at all about the scene, just a completely random clip that someone just stuck in there. What whale caused that attack and when did it happen? Oh yeah, it didn't. 6. Okay so a whale pulled a trainer down by the foot, how do you know that means the whale was agitated? It was probably just playing, if it wanted to kill that trainer I can GUARANTEE you that trainer would have been dead in a matter of seconds, or maybe seriously injured at the VERY LEAST. 7. Whales do live for an Average of 30 to 50 years in the wild, that is not a lie. People say whales can live to be 80 or 90, which is true, but that doesn't exactly make it average. People live to 115, or weigh 600lbs. Plenty of people have done either one but that still doesn't mean it's average. Now if they said they lived for a MAX of 30 to 50 years, then they would be lying, just make sure you are talking about average and max separately and don't get them confused, because they are different things. Am I missing anything?
The director of Blackfish also deceived the trainers interviewed. Trainers slammed the film because the final product turned out to be the opposite of what they where told during the production. The parents of the poor girl also slammed the film. The fines that Sea World faced was related to the safety violations involving the staff, not how the orcas where treated. Overall these animals do not belong in captivity, but it is due to the mistakes of the past. It did start out as kidnapping baby orcas from the wild, but most captive orcas today are born in captivity. While many things have been learned about ocean life thanks to these creatures and the environment is being promoted, we cannot forget how these creatures came into this kind of life. These orcas cannot be returned to the wild, living without human attention will be a shock to them and as we have seen through Keiko, that while you can train them to survive on their own, they won't be accepted in other pods and will get depressed from loneliness. All we can do is give the best life we can to the animals that are in captivity today, and not repeat our mistakes.
Chibi Neko That's when you know a film is misleading, when the family of a trainer who unfortunately died there begins to slam it. People should research this topic for themselves instead of believing Blackfish and nothing else.
Thanks for posting the soundtrack to One Ocean. I absolutely love the show and I support Sea World fully as a Central Floridian.
Glad to hear it!
I listen to this soundtrack every day! I enjoy it so much:)
Thousands die in car accidents every year: Nobody panics
One trainer dies at Seaworld: Everybody loses their minds.
exactly!
