Unfortunately, Yoann Gourcuff’s career was ultimately a huge disappointment. The “next Zidane” seemed to disappear after the 2010 World Cup. But why did Gourcuff miss the second part of his career?

What do you think caused the downfall of Gourcuff’s career?
The pressure of being compared to a true legend, ask Bojan or new Rooney(Ligardinho).

Perhaps nobody on his side when he was getting pressure from the media. ..... yet his arrogant keeping him away from the person surrounding him including the milan team

Man i remember this guy being a highly rated youngster in the FIFA games years ago even had him in my team on numerous occasions. Completely forgot about him lol

yes fifa 2008, he had like 72 or 74 rating, cost arround 4 milo playing for Milan at the time, but would reach 90 after few seasons, not to mention his rating was even better if out on the wing and not used as CM.
He looked the part, also his championship season with Bordeaux was amazing, he was easily my favorite young player back then as a Zidane fan. The thing is, there are players who need everything exactly in place for them to perform. 08/09 Bordeaux was the perfect place for Gourcuff. Low expectations, no spotlight, a modest but hardworking team playing off of his creativity. He didn't need to get into any ego wars or to fight for his leadership to be accepted. 2010 World Cup was the perfect indicator that Gourcuff wasn't a kind of player to get his way if it's not handed to him. The talent was still there, you could easily see the ball looked good at his feet; but unlike in Bordeaux, his teammates wasn't simply following his lead on the pitch.
What made Zidane, Zidane was his charisma on the pitch. No matter who he was playing alongside him, you could always see Zidane was the leader. He had a natural gift to dictate his game, made sure everyone was playing on his tempo. Like Zidane, Gourcuff didn't have impressive physical abilities, explosiveness like Messi or Ronaldinho, so he needed to make sure his team accepted his leadership on the pitch. Simply, when he lost that after Bordeaux, along with the injuries, his time was over.
That 2010 France team was terrible and toxic though.
Man the nostalgia is strong with this one. He was an absolute pleasure to watch that season at Bordeaux. Was bending crosses and free kicks like no other. Sad it didn't last.
He only achieved two feats that Zidane never accomplished..........
Injuring himself when:

2. Giving his teammate a high five

Pretty sad to his his career ended this way. i am milan fan and i was very glad to see him called up for wc 2010 and i expected him to shine on the tournament. Well you know France did bad in the tournament and i followed his career then. The up side was seeing him played for o lyon but he was hampered by injuries. Rejoined Rennes was my only hope he shone by having the help fr his father but it didnt went well too.
That's really hurt me to see his career turn on this way. I was excited like a kid when i saw his performance on pitch as i thought i can see another magical skill and game play after zizou retired.

If he ruined his career he isn't Zidane, there a lot of talents out there that might be even more talented than Zidane but can't handle the pressure, aren't consistent and a lot of other issues, Zidane is a legend not only due to his talent but also his ability to utilize it.

Wrong, there are a bunch of players with similar play styles just not as good, if someone with the same plays rule developed even a bigger talent than him, and played in similar clubs to him, it would be the next Zidane
