Thanks for showing all these different racks! I am getting older, but not as old as some I yak with! 😂 Between knees shoulders, backs, or any and every combo thereof, the shuttle opportunities are huge!
Pls do the heavy kayak loading like Hobie PA 12 & 14, then we will determine how this loader usable or what not, or just for the less heavy water crafts. Thx.
It will do it. I dont have one of those, but I did but 4 kayaks up there which was roughly 200lbs and it went no problem. If your kayak is more than 200lbs, you need a new kayak.
Nice, I'm looking at peddle driven kayaks at the moment and with the added weight of those type vessels and the fact I'm getting older they won't be as easy to throw on top of the car so I'm debating either a lift assist or trailer.
Can you recommend a rack to go on top of a high top panel van which is higher than you can reach standing on the ground. I want to carry two sea kayaks without using a ladder at all. The Drop rack looks great but can it have an extension of some sort so you can operate from the ground when it is mounted 2.6m up in the air?
I watched your paddle of the deep river recently I live near the Oakdale mill and was wondering where you launched and if there was anywhere to fish there it looks like it would hold some fish
Wondering how much stress the side loading weight, is putting the factory rack? Concerns would be factory rack or roof failure, with the load hanging off the side. Many SUVs roof weight limits are listed between 125-175lbs depending on the model. The rack it self may be stronger than the roof it is attached too. Still a nice looking system.
Great question! Lets run some numbers: If you put 175 lbs evenly distributed on Dropracks, that is approximately 87,5 lbs on each bar. The pressure on the closest attachment to the siderail will be approximately 2X the load, which is 175 lbs. Similar the wight of a grown up.. In comparison; a roof top tent with persons inside moving around can easily cause way more pressure on the attachments. On the attachments on the opposite side of the vehicle, you will have forces lifting upwards. Vehicles and (certified) racks must be able to handle the lifting force caused by two surfboards mounted next to each other, driving at high speed. This is set to 3500N (787lbs per crossbar, and 282 per attachment) in the European roof rack standard. The lift caused by Dropracks on each attachment is approximately equal to the load per bar, which is 87,5lbs. That equals approximately 31 % of the capacity on the attachment. But like you say: It is important to use solid clamps/attachments from well known brands, such as Thule and Yakima.
@@RiverKingsKayak I'm in Key West for the month so I am wondering if they are loud in Atlanta area right now. Hmmm, maybe I should listen in on my RING camera!
None of the major rack companies have stackers that use a t-slot attachment. They have clamps that go around the crossbar, so would not work. Do you know someone that makes stackers that use a t-slot attachment?
Wow. Looks awesome. It would be nice if there was a way to put my ski box on top for the winter season. Always worry about slipping on the ice getting my skis into the box. Cheers, W
You can put a skibox on Dropracks ;) We have a Universal T-bolt kit that can secure most roof boxes to the T-slot on Dropracks. (If you have a thule box, Thule does also have T-bolt kits for their boxes, that works with Dropracks).
Yes, I made some other reviews on other brand racks as well showcasing price point, medium price and high end options. It is on the higher end, but fills a pretty neat niche.
It is def not the cheap option...however, If the inability to load a vessel on a vehicle is keeping someone off the water, the price becomes well worth it! It is a game changer from kayaks to canoes to anything else.
@@RiverKingsKayak yeah, i cannot deny tht, i too have a bad back, shoulders etc so somehting like this would be awsome, sadly my income doesn't even allow for the cheaper options, i have to use a Ruk Kayak load assist, £50 lol
I packrafted it and it was def worth it. A big raft would have a little trouble getting through unless the water was just hammering. ua-cam.com/video/osIxP9ATNn4/v-deo.html
Something that goes for $2350 to put kayaks on top of a car is, in my opinion, by definition, overly complicated. I'm almost 70 and have no problem sliding my 16 and 14.5 foot kayaks onto the back of my Subaru Outback using an old rug to protect my car and pushing them onto some Malone Seawings that I got used for $25. But to each his own. If there are people out there willing/able to spend $2350 on such a contraption, then good for them.

hmmm...I know the dropracks have a tall vehicle option...maybe start there?
Looks like a great rack system!
it is very nice!

Yes, if you can find access, the Deep was full of fish from top to bottom. Very healthy
stream in that regard!

My 4Runner shows zero signs of stress during all the phases of use.
Sweet video. This would be a great option for a RTT if weight rating permits.
Good stuff... I havent ever used the RTTs
On the latest edition of pimp my ride..... 😁 Pretty cool setup!
Pretty cool! Rubber belts might be the weak link?
The rubber timing belts are reinforced with steel wires ;)
They are pretty tough!
Wild how you can hear the cicadas in the background.
So many this year!

cicadas!
If I understood, you cannot use any Yakima cradles or holders.
Actually, you can definitely use Yakima cradles and holders! The Yakima stackers, however, dont have the T-slot adaptation yet
Roughly over $,2500.00 for this?

It was on the news that the cicadas draw in copper heads wanting to feed on them. Watch your feet.
Yes, I saw that, but the cicadas are everywhere! so the copperheads dont have to go anywhere for food! LOL
Cool system but wowsers, it costs a pretty penny, then there's the feet plus optional extras :o

Hello are you drop rack dealer? Thank you
