Based on that the Freemont car with 2170 is in reality lighter than the Texas 4680… why? Because Freemont Y has 82kw battery and the Texas Y is 65-68. Is you compare apples to apples and measure a Freemont Y 2170 but with a 65kw battery pack will save a lot of weight and could be beyond the 20 pounds difference.
@Hogtown1986 where is that info that 4680s are not LFP chemistry batteries? I believe tesla plan is to make both 2170s and 4680s with new LFP chemistry.
For the noise test, shouldn't you be driving over the exact portion of road without any other vehicles near you? Noises from road surfaces can be significant, even when the road materials are the same.
Hey, nice comparison. But you forgot the most important part. Comparing the handling of the cars in sharp curves. The structural pack should feel much more dynamic when driving sporty. Can you please do such a comparison?
The lower door trim (softer) and the door pockets (carpet lined) have not been improved (yet) with the Austin Y? The Berlin made Y is better there than the Chinese 3s (and Ys IIRC).
I received a new Fremont built model Y LR in June. I found no build quality issues. The paint (gray/midnight silver) was fine. I am very happy with the car. There is no current car on the market in that price range that I would rather have. It's not perfect. Things I would change/improve: The suspension needs help with rough roads, particularly at low to medium speeds. A swivel touchscreen mount should be standard. The smaller fonts should be enlarged a bit, and the items that are pale/washed-out are difficult to quickly see at times. After a month I'm noticing an occasional subtle rattle which seems to be associated with the rear view mirror mount/housing. I really enjoy driving the car. I have a NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in my garage for charging. Nice video. Thanks.
Y just went through a suspension change in the last month. Several y content posters have put something up about it. Also announced but Elon on twitter within the last month.
I really disagree with you on the noise comparison because each car out of Fremont factory has different noise level than others caused by the horrible build quality. I wish if I can post some photos for you here.
@@KLWTTS Sorry, it was a little too fast for me. Especially when you have a bunch of numbers on the screen, it would be nice to have a few more seconds to digest them all.
Fremont sucks at building Tesla vehicles…. My first purchase 2022 tesla 3 long range badly builded cosmetic. 2023 Tesla Y long range just picked up same issues. I’m owner 2 Tesla and waiting on Cyber truck. I’m really disappointed Fremont factory on overall body build I love performance, over looks the cosmetic problems. I noticed all videos I’ve seen Texas Austin factory builds better vehicles
They both build poorly body gap is expected, tail lens water leak ( condensation) , mine roof glass had rock chip at pick up date and tesla have to replace the roof glass and interior panel squeak.Charge battery twice a weeks just back and forth from work about 30 miles a days. I bought a lemon
I have found the minor aesthetic updates when compared with the modestly lower price and allegedly quieter, better riding cabin to be a compelling pick over the LR model even in the face of all the “range is king” stuff out there. I live in the state with the best charging infrastructure in the country and I have a bolt euv with less range than the standard already. I should be fine.
6:25, great for a quick test, but a better one is a snapshot of an averaged spectrum analyser app. That may you can compare the frequencies too as certain ones are less annoying. Often you can have a higher SPL that sounds less annoying than a much lower one, depending on the frequencies.
@@tonypaca3015 I have one but haven’t needed to pull the frunk lining yet. When I do I’ll be able to instantly tell if it does. The best information I’ve been able to get is that only the 4680 battery AWD model has both front and rear giga castings.

My findings taking both vehicles to the scales showed that the Austin build was only 20 pounds lighter. A head scratcher for sure!
You have to look for battery chemistry aswell. LFP battery is less energy dense. So 60KW LFP battery weights more.
@@avvarutheja the 4680 batteries are not LFP. You’re thinking of the base Model 3.

Wow, what a difference in noise between those cars.

$42 for charging 😱 I about passed away when I paid $16 this weekend
When more EVs get into the market you better believe electricity prices will be on the rise. Supply and demand.

I tried but the difference was so minor it was difficult to qualify
4680 cells are not what was promised 2 years ago
Very disappointing numbers from range, power, and price
Great video and important video to publicize the facts versus a lot of guessing about the differences
Hold up, $42 to charge????????????????????????
I know. Is that normal? That’s same as gas
Not sure why, that’s around $0.70 per kWh. It should be a little over half that. Dunno where he lives but that’s pricy.
Solid review. Thanks for the info! The magnetic center console is very satisfying.
Feels good, looks good, sounds good ✅✅✅

What is the range difference in km? BTW all changes you get are standard in Europe form day they launched it.
Which car is cheaper to replace the battery pack after 10 years?
My Austin built Performance was built in Feb of 2024 and it has the latch on the armrest
Well paced video Ryan and great camera shots. Short and to the point. Would love to know how the car with the structural pack handles vs the 2170s.
Thank you, I was a little worried I was moving too fast 😅
As for handling, it’s tough to tell a difference this minor. Im sure it’s better but it was too difficult for me to quantify

thekilowatts can you confirm Front castings in the Fremont built (July) Model Y?
So I’m guessing Fremont is going to become the global factory and texes is going to be the America’s factory?
Has anyone else confirmed the lower sound levels on the Texas Y ? I could find nothing else on the internet.

Does the Fremont Model Y Long Range Have the Cargo Cover?
No made in China parts? If yes, it’s different then.
But which to purchase if money is not issue?!
*Well done!* Short and to the point. New Sub.
What about weight?
I expect Austin to be lighter. Thus more efficient in hilly area or with a lot of stop and go.
Just got back from the scales. Tweeted a photo of the weights with a passenger present in both (my girlfriend)
This guy reminds me of Chris Pine
I like the extra carpet. more premium
Where is the link for the after market trunk cover you recommend in the Y?
Added 😅👍
Windows the same
do the tesla model y LR cars with the 2170 cells have the one piece front casting?
No. The giga castings only work with the structural battery pack. Which is only the 4680 batteries.

Is there a marking on the car somewhere proving that the car is a 4680 battery? Thanks!
Unfortunately not that I've found yet
Not going to persuade me. I'm prepared to wait till I can get an Austin MY.
