Just Beautiful 🙂. I laughed hard for the whole length of the clip. A whole two minutes. I do love funny videos but this seems head and shoulders above. Cheered me right up. Does anyone have any video clips this funny? My anti-depressant medication just can't compare. All good though ☮️
Maggie shocks all the family members, but she got shocked by them. Homer: Aaahhh! Lisa: So did mine. Aie! Marge: Bart, Lisa, stop that. (shocks them) Bart shocks Homer, and the family keeps shocking each other.
That’s what I thought when I first saw this after the animation went more advanced. Is odd seeing the old animation now, when at the the time we thought there was nothing like it at the time.
The official episode guide said this scene was based on A Clockwork Orange, but I don’t think there’s an electroshock bit in that film. Is there anything else this could be referencing?
Wasn’t shock therapy outlawed? I doubt it’s as much as “Bzzt- ouch!” And more like “I can’t feel my brain anymore” or just [pained groans of gibberish]. It isn’t good.
This scene is hilarious! It wasn't until recently that I realized the statement it was making about the effect of trauma on society. Lack of ability for the family to resolve their problems healthily affects only those individuals in the short term. It begins to have negative consequences on those around them and eventually becomes a drain on society's resources. To put the cherry on top, the rich and powerful are more enriched, and the conflict ensures their power.
Alternatively, you don't understand how jokes work, and the much simpler explanation is humor value, rather than a high-brow commentary on society... especially that last bit, which is one hell of a stretch. The rich certainly benefit off society, and in some very gross ways, but it's hard to see how they're benefiting from internal familial strife. But, regardless, it's absolutely ridiculous to make a factual claim that this is making a statement "about the effect of trauma on society. " That's just your, extremely unlikely, interpretation.
@@Mythraen I don't think you watched the whole video because you said, "Rather than a high-brow commentary on society...especially that last bit". There's clearly a scene with Mr. Burns and Smithers commenting on the situation. The characters represent "Old money" or, in this case, the people who own the power (literally and figuratively). The show is a satire of family life and is considered one of the best ever written. That lends itself to more of an analysis than just "LOL, look at characters. Go boom!"
@@michaellauck5843 I don't think you read the whole comment, because I clearly explained what issue I had with the claim. I did watch two characters that were naturally involved in the power grid commenting on the power grid. They even made some satirical commentary that everyone could easily understand. Like I said, you're stretching really hard to invent that connection, a connection that doesn't even have a plausible corollary in real life. That's not how satire works. Reaching a conclusion about the meaning only after doing a college-level analysis assignment on what the scene meant is also not how satire works. It wouldn't be lauded for its satirical genius if the satire was so deep and subtle that it was questionable whether it was there at all. Let's also not forget this was a weekly show, not someone's magnum opus. Is what you said possible? Sure. I'm saying it's not plausible. And, I'm saying that possible or plausible, you're certainly not justified in making a factual claim that you _know_ that's definitely the intent of the scene.
Believe it or not I wrote a paper on this when I took counseling the family. This isnt true aversion therapy as that is pairing an undesirable behavior with an undesired effect. Since there was no clear connection between shock and specific undesired behavior the technique was doomed to fail. Was also a joy to write about family systems theory regarding the Simpsons....
