I used to watch this show with my Grandad back in the day. He was the chief of the fire brigade in our small rural Irish town. He wasn't much of a man for TV shows but he loved London's Burning, and watching it with him was the highlight of my week as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. I've grown up now, he's passed on. I didn't become the fireman I wanted to be back then, I became a musician and composer. I could only dream of composing something as dark and dramatic as the original LB theme. Even the musical themes used within the episodes to transition between scenes or accompany tense dialogue, it was all pretty much perfect for the show's gritty tone and setting. In the last 25 years music from shows like the X-Files, Lost and Game of Thrones have gone on to receive high acclaim and worldwide recognition, but I'm happy there's a group of us here who remember and love that 'Fire is coming to fuck your shit up' feeling of the original LB score.

I was a bit too young for the show in the 90's but it's had a couple of repeat runs on the Drama Channel over the past few years and I've been surprised how watchable it is. Definitely loses something when Bayleaf leaves. James Hazeldine was great in the part.
i loved watching londons burning. it started to go down hill from 1998 everything before was brilliant. playing back the open n closing credits themes tunes sounds lime elevator music now. still did the programme justice. itv should bring it back. thank god for drama channel who are playing the re-runs its on series 4 or 5 not sure tho
my thoughts exactly, I always watched this every Sunday as a kid religiously but it wasn't as good after series 9 ( I would accept series 10 was ok) but 1998 two things ruined it for me.... one being the theme tune having a complete change which sounded horrid. and secondly killing off Station Officer Nick "Zorba" which I did not see coming at all and then most of the decent Original characters.
Meh, it won't be the same without all those original Characters … I think after series 8 they began running out of ideas and the shouts got a bit lazy and ridiculously fictional nah as good as it was it's had it's day.
@@270687carl i think colin and billy ray was the funniest people.. I do think that if John Alford who played billy ray had not been sacked due to that fake drug dealing charge the show would have been better after 1998. The programme became more of personal life's than fires and this is what killed the programme off. There was alot more that could have been done to this programme. Even bigger and better effects but poor script writing spoilt it and killed it, rip londons burning
Oh for sure Colin was hilarious they signed him off (Unfit for permanent duty) in series 5 when a stage collapsed on him crushing his legs, Billy ray was a bit jack the lad but a good firefighter and yes I noticed personal lives made more airtime than actual shouts or fires, i been watching weekdays if i can on Drama and thought id give the later series a chance and I could count all the fires they went too in series 12,13 and 14 all on one hand and still had 2 fingers spare lol, But yeah RIP London's Burning!
Roland Rivron was a genius to come up with the iconic original theme, and I totally agree @ Wilson: It did indeed reflect some of the harrowing and darker nature of some of the earlier storylines. The sad version used for moments of reflection or when one of them was leaving or died was also great. Bennetts was okay, it grew on me, but the last one was crap and I felt unnecessary to change the tune for a last series.

Love hearing Hallam doing roll call at the start of this, was this from the pilot movie? The beginning of the end, for me personally, was when Bayleaf left and when Hallam was killed
@Stefano Pavone I agree with you. The series in my opinion started to get boring after that. Nick was also one of my favourites along with all tje original watch
I personally hated the way Sicknote died in the Chinese fireworks explosion. It's criminal that this legendary character never got a proper Fire Brigade send off and we never got to see Jean and Owen in mourning for him
I agree , Best LB theme version but I do like the previous versions, I hated the new version from 1998 onwards , that ruined the entire series for me not to mention the show getting a bit drab after series 10

How does a theme tune evoke so many emotions? God I wish we could go back in time.

Your wish may come true someday.
Simon Brint what a musical genius I love the constant guitar twangs and the drum beats brilliant piece of music composition

Up there with some of the best TV drama ever. Love this Theme so much. Always have done.
The original will always be the best.
The analogue synth is fantastic and the theme reflected the dark nature of the story lines.
