there are a lot of feature from a6500, such as tracking eye af, buffersize, 4d af, capability not to over heat at 4k, silent shutter, and many else. i choose a6500 few years a go because of this, significanly on buffersize, ibis, 4d af, and touch screen. af areas? not really matter since you need a precesion af point from the AI, not wider af area, touch screen will help you better to select the focus and then go to track mode
If the lack of IBIS is so important, why not get a m4/3 sensor camera with better ibis rather then a larger sensor with even less space inside for stabilization?
IMHO, to compare the 6400 with the 6500 is just plain a BAD IDEA. As some other people said, they sell for almost the same price. Why? Because the 6400 is really an improved 6300 which includes things many people have asked for: - Flip touch screen, - 4K with HDR, - Faster autofocus, better built-in time-lapse software. So, if the 6400 is an improved 6300, soon enough there will be an improved 6500 with these features and possibly more. Maybe they'll call it the 6600 or 6700 or whatever but it is coming. Then you'll have all these great new features AND the great stabilization system we all know the 6500 for. Patience is the mother of all virtues!

The Sony a6400 makes the perfect web cam! Considering buying one to leave on the tripod (then the Sony a6500 would then be the one I take outside the office). Anyone else thinking of doing something similar?

@@richardpcrowe Is not better not worse. This camera may be a downgrade for most or an upgrade for those who don't see value in many of the features that the 6500 has and this one doesn't. Most people getting the cameral wont even use the new improvements. To me this camera could've knocked it out of the park adding, IBIS, side flip screen instead of pop up, Audio jack and a bigger battery. That would've made this camera superior to all prior releases even if it didn't have that many focus point and advanced tracking. now having having all the above would've made this camera a headache for all current APSC put there....and some full frames

Also the a6400 has time lapse built in which is a plus. No video record limit on the a6400 either.

Just because it's newer doesn't seems like it's better. This is a old, leftover a6300 with a flip screen and new firmware.
Better in a few ways - mainly AF concerned and not as good in that it doesn't have IBIS...

...and that's why it is a "-" in the video under a6400 by 0:54 ...
