- The Final Season... We've finally made it! And it almost feels like a totally different series, with a time jump, a bunch of new characters, and the thing we've been wanting for a while - another perspective! This is already extremely intriguing.

You are correct! Zeke mentions to Reiner that it's their fault this happened. Once the world learned that Marley had lost the Female Titan and the insanely powerful Colossal titan, the world seized their chance to attack Marley. In this episode Marley managed to beat the attacking allied nations who decided to attack. The rest will be explained but all of this is explained in this episode.
I love that finger snipping at 10:56 when Kat immediately realized what happened there. Well done!

Btw it hasn't been 9 years. The mission to infiltrate Paradis started 9 years ago in 845 when the walls were kicked down. The events of S1-S3 take place in 850 and now it is 854. It has been 4 years

Season 4 is Attack on Titan in its final form. The ultimate package.
It has the shock factor of season 1, the "secondary characters become main characters" of season 2,
but also the political intrigues, lore bomb drops and epic battles with high stakes of season 3.
Doesn't have as much mystery though, I did honestly miss that (there were plot reveals, but there weren't any overarching unanswered questions left about the story, you already pretty much know why everything is happening the way it is) - rest was awesome though.
@@robertwilliams5267 That's got a cool plot reveal, and an epic ending, but is probably the last big bit of lore that was left, and people stopped questioning the lore for the most part after S3 P2, which gave everyone pretty much everything they wanted. For the majority of S4, we had the gist of the storyline settled. We only rly needed the beginning of it all, and now there truly is no large mystery left. Some small ones, but nothing major. There could easily be major plot points left, just not a lot of questions to ask.

Most of them are up to date in the series, or getting there, except Autosave & Carlie and Ange(both channels are at 2x6 rn so exciting times are ahead haha) and I love to listen to them as much as I love listening to Kat & Sonny, which helps me get through my 10 hr shifts cause I listen to them as podcasts. xD
@@MrWordcraft I've been watching Carlie and Ange - love them. They're pretty attentive but not nearly as much as these 2. AutoSave I haven't yet because their discussions seem a little too long, and I don't have the time, even if they're probably great. I heard FilmBuff was a little too smart for some people and ended up predicting too many things correctly or something - which is great, but also makes reveals less interesting. Apparently LM are great but they end up crying in every episode of S4, which'll probably be annyoing. Idk the others, might check 'em out, thanks.
@@MrWordcraft Ange & Carlie are insane! They even have their notebook to keep tabs on each character and event. They predict 50-70% of the future events correctly thanks to their notetaking skills and focusing only on AoT 4-5 times a week.

Dope reaction! Yes Marley is a military empire but this specific war started because nations saw Marley as growing weak due to its loss of the Female and Colossal titans. As the mid-card said, Marley rose to world dominance through the power of the 7 titan shifters and the warrior program. Losing any of them does weaken their position in the world and the Mid-East Alliance decided to take advantage of that weakness.
And considering that the war went on for 4 years plus they nearly lost the Beast Titan, and Reiner got wrecked, the Mid-East Alliance stood somewhat a chance of defeating Marley.
Loving how Kat warns us that she might be spacey but then is super eloquent and on POINT in the discussion. But I feel you, having experienced the same I very much understand that pregnancy brain is REAL and it is a STRUGGLE lmfaooo
And remember in the letter ymir wrote to historia you guys seen already, she said "I'm gonna die soon" and there was a flash of her chained up in the same place Eren was in S3.

Its 4 years after the end of Season 3
It's 3 years after season 3 (when they reached the sea). 4 years from when they beat Zeke and Reiner. From the battle of Shiganshina to the moment they reached the sea a whole year passed in which they resumed expeditions outside wall María and rid the islans of titans
This episode is really great ! Such a rush of adrenaline.

Also, yeah, this season takes the themes for a ride and makes you really consider if all that "heroism" shown in previous seasons was something to root for.
Everyone always gets caught rooting for Zeke and Reiner on this episode/ season lol
I actually did not when I first watched this. I was just observing. I got what they were trying to do; get us attached to the others. I never fell for it.
No reactor so far except filmbuff, noticed that was jean, good work
Pfew, I remember watching this episode and literally being just as confused as you guys were haha.
I didn't even realize it was 4 years after Reiner and Zeke's return from Paradis with the news they lost not only the Female Titan and the Colossal Titan, but they also lost their chance to get the Founding Titan and someone of royal blood (Historia). Even though they did recover Ymir's Titan (which currently is unnamed for you guys, so won't spoil), which didn't counter their huge defeat on Paradis.
The art style will be different this season, more closely resembling the actual manga (WIT did amazing but did kinda create their own art style rather than follow the manga's look). Due to time constraints Part 1 of Season 4 has some moments which aren't animated that well (though that's fixed on the Blu-Ray luckily), and they used 3D Titans instead of 2D. That being said, personally I find Mappa's 3D Titans to look amazing, as they genuinely look 2D, you can only really tell when it comes to movement being a bit too smooth. They do improve on that a lot, Season 4 Part 2 has some of the best animation the series has had.
Needless to say, while you may have had to pay attention before, in season 4 you're going to literally get all the answers to the questions that matter, so be prepared to rewatch episodes (offline of course) xD

Still getting goosebumps with how good you guys take the information you learned and apply it to the episodes. When you expected something to happen last episode when Eren was going to kiss Historias hand and now Kat realizing how Zeke is able to make titans and control them. Tbh i dont know any other youtuber that is able to follow so well, includin myself, i was the definition of clueless.

I'll help with the timeline.
Year 845 - The fall of Shiganshina and wall Maria (first episode) - Eren 10 years old
Year 850 - The second appear of Colossal titan, fall of Trost (episode 5), same year Reiner runs away, losing female titan and colossal titan.
Year 851 - Our main characters get to see the sea for the first time (end of last episode season 3)
Year 854 - Now. Since 850 Marley is in the war.
Congratulations, you are now finally done with the prologue, welcome to the actual story!

The failure to retake the founding titan made the world discuss the authority of marley, and the nations formed the mid-east allied forces to fight marley. This war was between the mid-east forces and marley (who is using eldians as usual).

A really interesting thing about Zeke from a few of his comments is that he doesn't seem to like or care for what he's doing. He seems to dissociate from his actions by turning everything into a game of baseball and he even seemed to be frustrated for the people in the walls because they had their memories wiped. He said to Reiner and Bertolt that he just wants things to be over. And even his comment in this episode, "Isn't war a terrible thing?" I do think he's one of the more intriguing characters because we've known him for several seasons now and his true intentions are still unclear. GO MONKE.
Side note, the ED for this part of the Season, Shock, is absolutely top tier and everyone should check it out if they haven't.

Most viewers relate the Marleyians to Nazi Germany, but I also assume most of these viewers are from either Europe or North America. I personally see a lot of links of Marley to the British Empire, using conscripted soldiers from your colonies and still treating them as second class and third class citizens distinctly reminds me of the British use of colonial troops (specifically Indians, kiwis and Aussies) in the First World War. The Mid East Alliance seems like the Ottomans while this seems like the Gallipoli offensive just slightly changed here and there, hell the uniforms also reminds me of the British WW1 Brodie helmets. Just make it a little Khaki and you got the British Uniforms plain as day.

I must admit I was so confused for ages during this season. first of all I was kind rushing through it as I had covid, and I definitely don't pick up the nuances like you 2 seem to very easily (hence in fact why i found and subscribed to your channel (and others) to see what I'm missing. But the first eps of this season I was like who's fighting for whom? how come there are eldians here and there, and these guys can titan so why are they on that side? eh???? Thank goodness for youtube to help my (at the time) COVID addled brain.

Final season is kind of like a roller coaster, goes up and down, sometimes in the same episode. While it still doesn't finish the story, there will be a Final Final Season, it does solves all remaining questions that might have lingered from seasons 1 through 3...mostly from season 3...plus pulling one of the most WTF plot twists in the whole anime. What we don't know yet is if we'll get the first end from the Manga or the second revised end from the manga. Yes, the manga sort of got two finals.
That's not really true, the manga ended and afterwards Isayama slightly expanded the ending with bonus pages, the ending itself didn't change.
However the anime may still receive a different ending, based around a popular ongoing fan theory and the fact that there is not so much left to adapt from the manga for a full season (a movie would have been perfect), but we will have to see.
@@Leythia Yes, I know they are not two endings, it's more like one ending and then an expansion on that ending...but if you think about it, the first published feels more like an ending for a certain character's story...or certain characters stories. Meanwhile the expanded one feels more like and ending for the whole series and a sort of a teaser for another. That's why I see them as two endings, because both end something, but different things.
