      I used watch Sam promote that service years ago when he had a couple of thousand subs, but he also used to work on his 33.4 in the driveway and complaining about his neighbours, the good old days

    I’m a carpenter living in the USA. I love these old shops videos of these tool stores. Those made in Japan makita tools are worth big money here. And they are better quality tools we buy here. Those old hand planes and chisels we can’t get those around here. Those would save us so much time! Keep posting these videos been a long time follower even before you moved to Japan.

    The tool shown at 9:36 is an antique "Chalk box" but it looks like it used more like pencil dust. you put the line end at one point, drag the line though the "chalk" and sting it out to a second point. pull it taught and let it snap back and it leaves a nice straight line.

    2:44 Yellow tub is filled with just big bits, 1st one is a Tap, 2nd is a drill bit/debut, 3rd is an end mill say you want to shape a cut out of your cage to lay a bar to give it more support and weldable contact area. 4th is an Annular cutter, so you have less pressure on the theworkpiecee and cuts faster as it only cuts the outer ring,
    The blue tub is full of dies, as I can see.
    The Green tub is similar to the first.
    Winches are great for lifting engines also, lift/drop and roll the chassis

    Regarding the sockets, those flat black sockets are used for impact drivers and air ratchets. The ones that are chrome are for handheld ratchets.
    I do like using the old hand tools as often times the steel was better. Some tools in my box were my fathers.

    I'm not a car person, too much traffic and insurance prices are wild in the UK for anything remotely interesting. I do like bikes and touring and working on them is part of that. Next Japan trip I'll hit the tool stores again and pick up a few bits, some of those milling vices look like great pickups.

    100% you should take some time to look some of those tools up and not just for yourself. That thing you asked about at 4:57 turns out to be an electromagnetic chuck. I assume it would shorten the time for the machine operator when changing bits. I thought that was kinda cool because Ive never heard of it, maybe other people might find it interesting as well. I love your videos because I'm learning so much lol

    As I have pointed out in the past (not shaiming any one for not being in the knowing), that is a rimer, it's to make precise holes (down to ,01mm), it also makes for a finer hole (wall). It's good with a (table) lathe, for making "bult" pivot/joints "holes" and then lathing the bult for the desired clearense.

    Those Snap-On boxes would bring $900-$1000 USD here in the states on marketplace depending on condition. Japan has combination of tarrifs and protection laws to keep certain domestic mfgring competitive, tools being one. From my experience in the 90s when I was stationed in Oki, Japanese people in trade based industries are quite (rightfully) proud of their country as well and support by proudly buying and owning tools built there. People like that are a dying breed here in USA.... usually its your older techs.... lots of younger trades people just can't get enough Hobo Freight.....

    • @embersaffron5522
      @embersaffron5522 Місяць тому

      The most important quality of most tools is that someone can afford them unfortunately. Even I buy harbor freight then if I use it enough to break I'll buy a real version, most people don't need to
