Yes, it did A LOT to reinvigorate the format. Modern was a shithole for the better part of the last 2 years (if not longer), and all of these changes were really overdue.
Super fun way to jump back into Modern! Also big thanks for your work on the Pre-FIRE community, I've been having a blast playing with my brother and lurking around the Discord!
Thank you! PreFIRE has been a delight, it's been awesome to see people excited about it and brewing sweet decks! Looking forward to playing more of it!
26:09 Why not Endurance yourself to stop the Drown? Outside of that I feel like you played that matchup INSANELY well. So good to see you back on Modern.
I was planning to sandbag the endurance until my opponent milled me completely to get the most value from it. That being said, I think it's possible that playing Endurance would have been better there simply because even if my opponent has Push I now have Halfling, Endurance and Wrenn to put my opponent on a very fast clock, and if they don't have Push I just win on the very next turn. Thinking back I should have definitely cast the Endurance there.
I've missed this, the Reclaimer valakut/field of the dead brew it's still one of the most fun decks I played in all these years. Glad to see you back in modern even for a short time
This was so fun to watch, this decks power really shines because you are such a capable pilot, love seeing you tear apart modern please come out of retirement permanently lol!
The fact that the deck wasn't embarrassing means that I may want to play a league every now and then, but it's extremely unlikely that I will make any sort of regular content for now.
hey thx for the deck. I'd love to see more of it. I'm a Amulet Titan and Legacy Lands enjoyer and this deck is something in between and I like it so far. If you're willing to share an updated list in the future I'd really appreciate it.
I honestly don't have much time to play these days, so if I manage to get some matches in and upload them (like in this case) it'll most likely be me theorycrafting and then seeing whether it works or doesn't. I was surprised by how decent this looked for a first try, though!
@@marcschmidt320 I may try it out, but I am not a fan of how much the deck has changed and how different it looks now. Most of the cool things that I liked about it are gone, like the toolbox aspect, and it’s now more combocentric than ever, which i don’t find appealing. I may give it a shot, but I’m much more likely to try to work on Lands decks instead
@@fpawluszmtgWe are very much on the same page. This deck you are playing here, is like 75-80% the same as something I've been brewing on lately. Mostly to replace my titan deck, after feeling just as you do! However I keep praying something will pull me back in, and get me more excited about using my bounce lands again. Haven't even bothered updating it since 2022 (real cards). At the same time, I've refused to sell them, solely because it's my favourite modern deck of all time.
Normally when a deck looks good it’s because of a couple really cool plays throughout the game, this deck however had so many interesting lines and decisions points at almost every turn of every game. Really awesome list.
I have tried Safekeeper in the past in Legacy, and wasn't impressed. It could be added as a redundant "combo piece", but if we are playing 4 Sagas it's actually easier to have access to Orb through Reclaimer/KotR/Saga than Safekeeper which can only be found through GSZ.
As a fellow lands enthusiast, seems like Faithless Looting would be right at home in this build. Gets you lands in the grave for shenanigans, gets you through the deck faster, ups the turn 1 play count, etc.
It's an interesting thought. Looting does raise the need for t1 plays, and with GSZ this deck is planning to use all of its mana every turn, so idk where in the curve you'd have the spare one mana to cast Looting in a way that doesn't impact the board whatsoever... Definitely an interesting thought, though! Probably worth testing as a late game CA engine!
I just made too 8 at at 22 man tournament using the base of this deck. Cut black mana (grist and dismember) Added sylvan safekeeper (easier combo outlet), added the full four P-ending. Feels like i want to add Outland Liberator/ Reclamation Sage, an additional Flagstones to the main, and a Gaddok Teeg to the sideboard. Hope to see this deck more in the future - it's definately not finished yet. :)
@@agelessdisintegrated Nice! Yeah, the deck is far from finished, this was just my first draft and it just happened to work pretty well on a first try. Looking forward to see where this can go in the future!
The unbans made me excited for modern again. Been testing and tweaking a Maverick style list, now that GSZ is back. Keen-Eyed Curator has been SOOOO good. Like the best card in the deck. I am on 2, maybe going to 3. My list is Abzan, not land based, though. No sagas. Different kind of deck, but still GSZ! Also recommend Gaddock Teeg. How come you aren't on Sejiri Steppe? KotR + Reclaimer, and you can even echoing deeps it! Also, how dare you say that Echoing Deeps art is heinous. It is beautiful!
I hate all of those full arts that don't look like Magic cards. I dig the regular one. Steppe is just too mediocre, and absolutely horrendous when naturally drawn. I was never a fan of the card cause every time I tried it it disappointed me. It's only good when you're crop rotating for it to protect a 20/20.
@@fpawluszmtg Seeing you mention Creativity in the last round: This is exactly what Teeg is good at stopping. You can GSZ for it, you're sideboarding out your Pendings, and it completely stops Creativity. Sylvan Safekeeper plus this just locks em out, they usually have persist too though, so any graveyard hate deals with it. Teeg is a nonbo with GSZ but... If it means your Belcher (Whir and Belcher), Creativity decks can't do anything, plus the added hit on Kozilek's Command, Chord of Calling, Archive Trap, Wrath of the Skies, Leyline Binding, even opposing GSZs.... I find it best against Belcher and Creativity, though.
Steppe is always the 35th+ land I'd like to play. Already I don't have enough room for so many other lands I'd like to play (more Surveil lands, more Flagstones, Boseiju, more GQ/Tec Edge...) It's a card that has a pretty high ceiling, but an extremely low floor. Imo it's only really good when you are Crop Rotating into it to protect your 20/20 in Legacy.
Oh right, the Orvar tech! Great call, totally forgot about that. Idk if Creativity is popular/good enough in the meta to warrant its inclusion, but it's great to know that we have that as an option, thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah, to cast Grist, but after having played the league I'm not even sure that it's worth splashing for. The card is good with Fiend, though, so maybe it is? That splash off a single etb tapped land sucked, though.
@@Kheltar It was in the OG list, of course, but as I was putting together the list of lands I wanted while making sure I kept enough plains for Flagstones, fetch/fetchables and utility Boseiju ended up getting cut.
