our supplier uses the Fast Connect system: one box with a coil having the pole/end fitting. then played out to your site. a home is drilled through the wall ending in a fibre wall jack. alternatively, an optical network terminal is used as a junction. easy! my install was about one hour's time....bonus: the installer let me keep the excess... and I used this as a Christmas wreath!
I've got lightspeed being fitted in 2 days and I'm so looking forward to having faster interwebs speed then I've had for the last 10 years through the crappy old copper cable that BT refused to replace. Ours is going in on 15th december. Went for the 100mbps service as that's more than ample for us and more than double our current service and the same price too @ £24.99 plus free installation! Can't go wrong at that price.

I cancelled,but a few days ago they got back to me with a good offer - so I'll give them another try - just not going to cancel my Sky broadband until they turn up on the day
Hmmm BT seems to be quite different. A CPC box outside and an internal ONT terminal out of which comes an Ethernet cable that plugs into their Smart Hub 2. Im a complete novice so possibly am completely incorrect.
Hi Nick. Remember, it's Openreach, not BT. Openreach install a box externally called a CSP (customer service point) which then goes into an ONT where the fibre finally terminates. The reason for the ONT is so that an ethernet cable can run from there to the many different routers on the Openreach network. A customer may be with BT and another may be with EE. Same ONT but means another router can just be plugged onto the end of it. At Lightspeed it's only one service and one service only coming down the pipe. So, no need for a separate ONT and router. Hope this helps

Hi Stephen, thanks for watching. It was followed up the very next day by Lightspeed and now we get speeds of at least 1,00Mbps Down and 768Mbps Up. I’m looking at getting Youfibre but don’t understand all the boxes? I’m a little worried because iv not been out of the house in almost 4yr because I can’t have a covid vaccine because of health issues so iv gotta do everything online, shopping, doctors and hospital medication orders on line, utility bills and council tax. Everything is done online! But I’d have better speed and it would be £16.50 a month cheaper than BT who I’m with now, Oh, and the pole is actually in my garden about 3m from the side of my house! Any help about Youfibre would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

The pole is just about 3m from my house, it’s actually in my garden so they can come in the patio doors to install, and I don’t need to go in the living room for as long as it takes, week or even a month. I’ve got a very comfortable kitchen to sit in, so no worries there, it’s just that I’ll need all the information off the bottom of the router so I can Connect to the internet for everything like shopping, cctv cameras and paying bills. Only thing I can think of is if he puts the box on its side at the door so I can take a photo of all the info I’ll need to connect. And also worried about the reliability of this new provider? @@marley2319 They should come off the pole and bring the fibre cable down the wall to where ever you want it (within reason). The engineer should connect the router and test it for you and leave the WIFI connection details for you on a card or a sticker on the bottom of the router. Again, my advice would be to check with Youfibre first and before they come out on their procedure. Hope this helps 😎👍
We're considering LS now - can I ask if you've had to deal with any further problems since install? And if so, how was the customer experience / resolution? I believe this is going to make such a difference in our village, where our current speed on copper cables is 30mbps d/l and around 9 u/l :)
Lightspeed product and service is good. The customer service is a little bit slow, but that is because they are so new, but they do get there. For transparency, we had to leave the Lightspeed service only because we are a business and they couldn't provide the level of technical functionality that we needed. But please don't let that stop you when considering them as your ISP.
@@RLSComputerServices Is that due to the CGNAT thing? And not letting you use your own router? Terrible service tbh for a 1 gig up & down enthusiast plan. I might be forced to use them still if they are the only FTTC provider here though :(
@pendulumx , basically yes. You have to use their router and their was no bridging functionality to bypass it. They are still a good contender for a full fibre offering (FTTP).
@@RLSComputerServices I was Googling it a couple of weeks back and came across information that the router itself can go in to bridge mode, ISPs can enable it remotely, but Lightspeed refuse to do so. I guess they're a good ISP for some users. But the CGNAT is going to mess me up, they've lied about "Coming soon" for 20+ months and they've been saying they're working on a static/dynamic IP option for a similar length of time but nothing happens. I don't trust them anymore.
Why don't you bring the fiber drop inside of the prem and splice it inside of a fiber jack? At Bell Canada we only use a slack box outside of the premises when the is service outage caused by a broken fiber drop which we just go outside cut the drop and splice it into what you guys call an enclosure. It's much safer and easier to push the drop inside of the prem and making your ends inside. While leaving the drop protected from any weather or animals. Do exactly what you did outside but inside.
Its testing a testing point outside customer premises for bidirectional testing with OTDR and power meter without any splicing work. You dont need to access customer/Poll while any link down/losses complaint.

Can't wait to experience FTTP speeds. FTTC has been hellish as of late, too many people watching Netflix!
