- China has always been an independent cat who loves to go out and explore her backyard. One day, her mom, Mónica, found random things outside by her back door, like a candlestick and a Halloween skull decoration. She had no idea where these things were coming from, so she set up a security camera to find out. Turns out, China was stealing from the neighbors!

That cat really loves her. Constantly bringing her gifts and each time the look on her face when she drops it off at the door, looks up and meows to announce her gift drop is precious.
Right? This cat is helping support her humans by hunting for things to give them.
She's smart enough also to bring gifts of human design rather than the usual dead mouse. She knows humans don't eat dead mice.

That's exactly what i thought. I've been owned by cats for about 35 years and several have brought me gifts on a regular basis. I've got an American short hair right now who brings me toy mice. When she brings one in the night if i don't wake up to take delivery she will drop it on my face.
This is really quite remarkable. I have rescued hundreds of them and used to be a licensed veterinary nurse. Never have seen anything like this. Highly intelligent cat and just so cute that she picks up the human pieces and isn't out killing birds. Adorbs.

We rescued a feral cat that eventually became super spoiled. One day he brought in a worm for my mother, thanking her for saving him. My mom said, "Oh, thank you Tigger. We really needed that worm!"

Its part of the thing of providing for the rest of the "pack/pride". And the human is part of it. At least she isn't getting live rabbits at 3am like me. I come home from work to a live pigeon in the bathroom that tried to fly off when I went in to wash my hands.

I had a dog when I was a boy that did this but with stones. He brought home all type of stones, big and small, and place them together like small pyramids. They were all over the front yard. It was weird.

One of mine, after I go to bed, runs off to find a de-stuffed hedgehog toy of my dogs, then proceeds to call out with it in his mouth and bring it up to me in bed. I find it on the rug every morning.

I still remember 25 years later my childhood cat dragging a FULL size rabbit up the deck stairs as a gift to us. For one summer every day was a new animal. Yup she loved us!!
My dog did the same. My dog was an airedale terrier and not small. He went about 3 acres back into my woods one day and came back with a baby rabbit in his mouth. He didn't even injure it or anything. He had grabbed the rabbit by the scruff of its neck and brought it back!

She's definitely a genius kitty and way she shows back her gratitude to her owner is incredible. Cats would usually "hunt" and give dead animals to their owners as a sign of gratitude for feeding and taking care of them. A kitty bringing in something human like means she knows her mom wouldn't like a dead bird as the item she brought may be useful instead.
I seriously doubt cats experience gratitude, since it isn't even a very powerful emotion for people. I think it's more barter, earning their keep.

She's a very intuitive shopper. "Let's see, today I think this skull and candle really belong together..." Next day, "I think she'll like an assortment of leaves and dirty paper..." Then, "Oh, this is perfect for a Thursday, a little chunk of concrete!" It's an art for her.
