In india in btech professors just go on giving assignments just to many of them and most of assignments are like theoretical or question and answer type so what will students do? If professors start giving innovative assignments then these practices may come to end.

I would say, you should focus on AI, because of smart grid tech boom. So may be go for renewable integration into smart grid kinda projects and research. Or else in energy policy

There is something called Self Plagiarism, but since this is a single publication you are making out of your M-Tech thesis, that would be fine. But confirm with your prof.
