Want to know how powerful Elvis was? He could've probably attracted over 300,000 people for one concert had he done world tours. The whole world wanted to see this man, but couldn't unless they went to the US. They would make it the biggest event in the country, no matter what country it is.

And the concert holds up just as well today as it did then and that's because Elvis is endless and knows no time restrictions. Elvis is Evergreen, Everlasting.

My wife and I travelled from London, Ontario that afternoon. There was a bunch of us on that bus and it was a great night. We were told that Elvis had insisted that no ticket was to go above $15. He had so much concern that his fans could afford to get to see him. Not like the rip-off "artists" of today. I am so glad to have come across this recording. I recall him asking the fans if they would agree to staying longer into the New Yea. They went wild. And he did. The show rapped up at about 30 mins past midnight. My only disappointment was the fact that he had gained weight since the last time we saw him which was in Detroit during the summer of 1970 where he looked great.

Great recording. Thank you, for posting this for us. I wasn't lucky enough to attend one of his concerts. A group of buses sponsored by Blue Bird Tours [did I recall the bus company correctly?] left for this concert, from London, Ontario, Canada. I know this because one of my good friends, Mr.Dragan Pavlov attended the concert. He explained to me when I pumped him with questions [in 1982] when we met. The bus driver made a pit stop at a liquor store. He brought on bottles of champagne for all the folks on the bus. They thanks the driver, and he offered the response, "...don't thank me, thanks goes to Elvis, and The Colonel; it was their idea. Dragan says before the concert festivities began, he was walking near the stage, and the engineers had setup a reel-to-reel. He asked them what the setup was for; they offered the reply - we are recording the concert tonight. I wonder if the sound board of this concert survived, and will be released one day? Dragan says being in the same building with all those fans was an amazing experience. Further more, Friends, if you ever have the chance, and can afford it, purchase a copy of the book, and CD published by Elvis sound engineer, Mr. Bruce Jackson of Australia. We lost Mr. Jackson a few years ago, but, his family gathered up all the letters, and memorbilia, Bruce sent home from each tour of Elvis's in the 1970s. The result is a fantastic "coffee table sized" book, and Bruce talks about the setup for Pontiac New Years Eve. I won't spoil his memoires. Thank you, Bruce, and Elvis. Rest in peace. Stay safe, Everyone. Thanks for reading my long post here.

50 feet in the air? Not likely more like 15 or 20 feet. The two level stage was pretty weird but when he ripped his pants he was leaning over to touch some fans after the first 2 songs. Hardly likely if he was fifty feet off the floor. Also tickets were not all $15. They were $6.00 $10.00 $11.50 and $15.

so Jared, I read your comments and I'm curious what part of the entourage you were in? You had a conversation and to hear them say those things? Ive never heard of Elvis ever saying this is BS im out of here (paraphrasing)
My parents were at this show and their memories like others on here are different than yours? Whether someone paid $11 or $15 does it really mean their lying? Maybe you just had to pay more so what? Try not being quite so critical.

There were several ticket prices, from $6.50 through to $15. From memory, $6.50, $10, $11.50 and $15.

How did The Who manage to fit in 76,000 people while Elvis only managed 62,500?

The Col. decided to block off the top tier stating people would be too far up/away and wouldn't see anything. The only way around that would've been a few big screens, leading to it being professionally filmed. Elvis would have had no trouble filling the upper portion. There were many reasons/excuses (we all know how the col. worked....). Wans't meant to be.

Adam Kington He's not. He has to claim ownership of the material, which he doesn't have, in order to make money.
