  • If your mower suddenly quits with a bang and a puff of smoke, can it be fixed? This engine is known for ACR failure. Most times it can be fixed, sometimes its not worth the cost.

I have a mower in the exact same condition where the motor blew like that after paying $50 for it. It’s better to either get a replacement Briggs engine or just find another complete mower for that same price range that is complete but runs and just needs a basic tune up. One thing I have noticed when I go to find these mowers, the battery is the number one item always gone for some reason, I rarely come across these neglected mowers with a battery still in it.

I recently got one of these mowers for free. It turns over but won't start. I noticed at time 6:53 something on the bottom of the carb bowl with an electrical connection. I look at mine and that part is missing and the electrical connection is just hanging. What is that part I'm missing and would it stop the engine from starting?

That is a Solonoid that gets activated when you turn the key on it basically pulls a plunger out so the gas can flow. If there is just one wire then you don't need it. If there is a 2 wire lead it needs to be there to complete the safety circuit
