I really appreciate how you talk about hair fibres in your video, its super important to me when i choose which dolls to buy. The mattel ariel is absolutely adorable & the saran really sells it to me haha. Will be purchasing now
I would like to point out one thing in Mattel's favor: the face sculpts are much nicer than Hasbro's. The Mattel Ariel looks more like the Disney store dolls in terms of face quality. I have the basic line Belle from Mattel and it is the same there, in that the face actually looks more like the character than an overly cartoonish version (by comarison) to the film. Thanks for sharing these fantastic Ariel dolls. Keep being awesome.
I always thought that the reason Ariel gets the better quality hair is because doll companies know that since Ariel is a mermaid, the Ariel doll will be used as a water toy at some point or another. So they up Ariel's hair game so the hair doesn't turn into a nasty, puffy, rats nest after the child plays with the doll in the tube/pool two or three times. 🌊🌊🌊🧜♀
I know this video was a year ago, but I want to share my thoughts on the hair quality. Red nylon hair tends to be higher quality because the red dye often holds better and lasts longer compared to other colors. This isn’t just true for Ariel dolls, Ruby from Rainbow High also feature high-quality hair, thanks to the dye and nylon used. In addition to the dye holding better, red nylon hair often feels softer, shinier, and more durable because it’s usually made from higher-grade fibers. The process of dyeing red nylon tends to be more intricate, which results in better color saturation and longevity. This is why red-haired dolls like Ariel or Ruby from Rainbow High stand out, it's not just the color, but the quality of the nylon and the dye that makes the hair feel great !!! For more examples, Sunset Shimmer from My Little Pony Equastria girls also have red nylon hair.
Hi Chad, love your video! I had a chance to see the production of Mattel's Ariel in the factory and it made me wanna get the doll even more! They basically made the wavy hair manually by hand!!! It's so mesmerizing to see, like a hair salon for dolls❤
Thank you! How were you able to see it in the factory??? That is like my dream! I would love to be able to visit the factory and see the Mattel dolls being made 🤩
MGA did make a princess line a while ago, if you look up "MGA Storytime Princess Dolls" you can get an idea of what they would have done. Although their style has changed after that. The Disney dolls wouldn't be much different because Disney is looking for someone to produce the "budget" dolls, so if MGA had the license, it would probably be very similar to mga's Dream Ella line maybe?
Its very interesting you said the Mattel doll was better (and well it is) I was pleasantly surprised because I thought Hasbro was doing a good job with the Disney Princess dolls. Don't get me wrong Mattel made very beautiful Disney Princess dolls, but my only complaint was instead of the doll looking like one of the Disney Princesses I felt like it looked more like Barbie cosplaying/dressing up as a Disney Princess than the actual character......
I think the reason why Ariel always have the best quality hair because outfit-wise the doll have less compared to the other princesses, thus less full doll costing. While the other princesses has more thought on the design of their dresses, and more time making them. This is just my theory though 😄
Hi Chad Marvelous hi Mom Marvelous and your family from me in Iron River, Michigan I love your videos and the comparison of your Little Mermaid Doll between Mattel and Hasbro is wonderful to watch I love the Mattel little mermaid over Hasbro little mermaid I would still buy both
Your such a great doll reviewer I got two of the new Mattel princess dolls and I just think they are amazing I always liked Mattel Disney princess dolls.
But the seahorses on the back of the box are in the movie don't you remember the little seahorse saying "Presenting King Triton!" or something like that.
@@MistressMeloetta yes I'm sure. The seahorse that announces King Triton has a thin on the top of his head like a mohawk, and a frill around his neck. The seahorse's on the back of the box here don't have anything around their neck, and they have something pink on their head that looks kind of like a flower or hair. They are like the seahorses in the "Under the Sea" scene in the movie.
@@ChadMarvelous Yes they are! I remember that now I have a little mermaid squinkie that looks like one of those seahorses! Well either way the Mattel doll looks prettier than the hasbro one, which as I said before was surprising....A pleasant surprise but still surprising......
Thank you for explaining why the new Mattel dolls are so crappy. i still feel like there's no excuse and that Mattel should have done something better with these new releases, but it all makes sense now. i love your room, Chad! It looks like how my house is starting to look. i think the only rooms that don't have dolls/toys in them are the bathroom and kitchen. 😆😅
Yeah, the designs are intentional. And they're not bad, they're just intended for little kids that are just going to play with them and probably get them dirty, and sometimes have difficulty changing the clothing on these dolls. But that's also why Disney has the classic dolls that they sell through their own store for the people like Us that want a nicer quality doll with more articulation and fabric clothes.
It’s actually a combo of both she, out of the princesses, does the best individually and also her color is a harder color to get right in cheaper quality hair and thank god for that! I just wish they had better hair for Aurora too her’s is easily one of the worst heads of hair on the classic dolls
I love the mattel dolls, but omg they are very overpriced everywhere else other than the US and its so unfair, for example this doll costs 40+ US dollars, and the basic dolls cost 20+ US dollars...
I love your videos and content! You have such a bubbly personality and always cheers me up when I'm having a rough day!❤ I would love to see your doll room! Would there be a chance you would do a video of that? Much love! 🥰
Haha, thank you so much! Midol room is pretty much just my bedroom, and if I ever get it cleaned up enough to be presentable then I will make a video of it showing my collection.
I love the Mattel version. I'm adding that one to my Mattel Little Mermaid Live Action 2023 Collection. I love both Disney Movies 1989 and 2023. Thank you for your review. It was helpful.
This is just my opinion, but the Hasbro faces has always made me feel very eww. And I dont like the bubblehead thing for Disney princesses. But then again I also dont like the 3d princesses, the old cartoon princesses looked like beautiful women and the new ones (elsa, rapunzel etc) looks like a weird child adult combined kind of a thing. I love that Mattel has the rights back and I hope they go back to how the Disney Dolls were in the nineties. A girl can dream. :)
Hi Chad! This comparison is super useful, thank you! I've got an Ariel waiting for her MTM body. She's from Hasbro: the Sugar Style Comfy Squad. I love her face! But I like the new Mattel head A LOT, mmm... 🧠 (brain thinking)
And lemme stop hating on pp cause they have dolls more easily thank brazilian folks Great video, I never saw your channel before! Def helped me to chose between the two dolls, thank you ♥
Hello Chad. Love your videos. Love the Disney princesses. I own one Ariel doll. I'm not sure which year but it's Mattel. I purchased her from a thrift. Any ideas how to identify her? Love your reviews. Always thorough, complete, accurate and concise. Good job👍 Keep up the excellence 😊😁
Because they made so many dolls for Ariel, I'm not sure how you'd be able to identify her, but if you look at the back of her head, or the dolls lower back, usually they will have a year imprinted into the plastic which can help you narrow down when the dog came out
Hi Chad. Thanks, it has helped me identify the dolls going forward! It looks like the one that I have is from the Disney store. Her elbows are jointed and movement at the head.😊

Maybe your putting in a little too much faith that Mattel will change it up later 😅. Ay least little kids will never be able to tell the difference so far!
Okay, this is actually getting me heated, nothing against north americans, kinda wish I was one, and youre telling me it's a $20 doll, and in Brazil we're lucky if we're paying $100BRL. Not a joke, like $70BRL is the price of a basic Barbie doll, I saw this Ariel doll, exactly the same you're holding, and they were charging $300BRL for her. Not joking, I have pictures to proof how sad this actually is. ($1 equals almost $7BRL currently)
$100brl sounds right for this doll. I just did the currency conversion from u.s. dollars, and since this doll is $22.99us, that would come out to about $119brl (roughly). Obviously, there's more to consider than just currency conversion to take into consideration, like cost of living versus wages earned, etc., But that cost seems to be about right. No, $300brl would be WAY too much for this doll (in my opinion). That would be over $57us.
@@marcelocalegarojr7138 oh wow... That's wild... I wonder if it's that hard to get the dolls in Brazil or it just costs a lot to import them? Like, why are the dolls so much more expensive???
