  • Southern park mall was built in 1970 by Edward J Debartolo and included Anchors such as Sears,Strouss,Hornes and JC Penney. In 1996 the mall was sold to simon property and also remodeled that year. They also built the food court that year. The mall had stores such as suncoast video, camelot music, national record mart and Kroger. Also part of ponderosa is still there hidden. In 2018 Sears closed its doors then Dillards the next year. Plans are to renovate the mall with a soccer field a some inline stores where sears use to be.

I remember the old mall. I remember when plazas replaced downtown stores.
The new mall, that is, the remodeled one, looks great, and more relevant to the times.
I don't usually get out that way too often, but when I do, I'll have to check it out!

It’s pretty cool now since they remodeled it. For me though I like how it use to be. Now everything just looks bland

Always enjoyed this mall and the music fits this video perfectly. So glad your mall isn't dying. Another awesome video from the man.

I like your walk in this mall. It's not as busy as ours in Indonesia, but looks great. Nice music and great photos too. 👍

_Great video, Terry. It's because of you that I've become more familiar with this mall. Like many other malls I've seen, it is an unfortunate truth that the former Sears wings of many malls are dead. Hopefully the new construction plans will revitalize it and bring new life._

Malls were all the rage back in the 70's and 80's, but now are a dying breed as people prefer strip malls, well now strip malls are dying. Everything is going to online/delivery so in 20 years there may not be hardly any in store shopping let along malls....

It’s definitely a number of things with Walmart, Amazon and owners selling the mall too companies who just let it die. Southern park mall is doing okay but what I miss about the malls were the look of them and the cool stores back in the day. Also the go to place too meet friends or dates.

@@TerryAllan1975 Yes, back in my teen years the Somerset (KY) mall WAS THE PLACE to be on Fri or Sat night, people just drove around it all night long and hung out. We have one that does really good here in Lexington, the rest are gone now, torn down.
