      Absolutely. I was actually pissed when they traded him. Obviously Pat turned out being what he is now but I wasn’t sure at the time and Alex has been done dirty at every turn. I was hoping he would retire a Chief. Anyway thanks for making me proud to be a Chiefs fan again Alex. Even though your time was short with us you are a Chiefs Kingdom legend.

    I will always appreciate Alex Smith for being gracious enough to mentor Patrick Mahomes. I'm sure it can't be easy training your replacement in any job, but especially one so lucrative and high-profile, and I am impressed by and grateful for the professionalism he displayed on his way out of town. Alex, you may not have a ring to show for it (though in my opinion you probably should), but you'll always hold a special place in the annals of Chiefs history.

    Love Mahomes - very elite - but make no mistake , Alex was elite in his own right . Look at the playoff games that were lost , like the 28 point lead over the Colts , then losing to them . Had Alex had a defense / defensive coordinator - we’d have one or two more rings than we do now . Past that … Mahomes is the bomb ! Kelce is the best ! Jones is a beast ! GO CHIEFS !!!

      @ХорхеГарсия-э5е 4 місяці тому

      I also remember him losing a game where his defense allowed zero TDs, or another against the Mariota led Titans. No, he was not "elite".
      But I'm not a Chiefs fan, you guys are free to believe whatever you want.

      @@ХорхеГарсия-э5е and the defense they played against also allowed no TDs - I also remember that came . Wasn’t a blow out . The Titans game wasn’t a blow out either . The Colts game I referenced - we had a 28 point lead . With Coach Reid , I believe had we had a defense - particularly a defensive coordinator , we woulda had a ring that year . Unfortunately , we will never know . Can safely say this - had we gotten a ring - everyone would be singing a different tune about Alex . And quite possibly wouldn’t have drafted Mahomes - so maybe things worked out for the best , eh ? ! But putting Alex down is good either . He was better than most gave him credit for . Marino never got a ring either - most say he was elite - including me . ‘Nuff said - I’m tired - lol ! Been awake too long ! GO CHIEFS !!

      I've been a Chiefs for 50 years and, while Alex Smith was a good QB, I'd never call him elite. He didn't make plays like Mahomes does. I never had confidence that he'd win the game like I do with Mahomes. He ran too much, making me afraid he would get hurt doing it. Unlike Mahomes, I thought he was overpaid. Not saying he isn't a good guy and he was a great mentor for Mahomes but they are not in the same league.

    I think the miss rate on 1st-round QBs has a lot to do with the teams that are so often taking them in the top 5 or top 10, because of their poor records (reflecting poor rosters). The QB needs more things (every thing) to go right in order to prosper, and if he doesn't get that as a rookie, he's going to take a beating, especially if he feels like he needs to make up for everybody else, like Robert Griffin III did.

    Alex Smith is obviously a good guy and a rare breed that holds no animosity over his replacement. But unlike some folks on this post, I well remember how KC fans were more than ready to let Smith go. How we considered him overpaid and how we thought management was not doing the right thing. I hated that he ran way too often and was just waiting for him to end up hurt because of it...but he wasn't that much of a play-maker. Time seems to make people forget how they felt before.
    As for Mahomes being obsessive...it's this obsessiveness that teams, analysts, sports hosts, etc., seem to ignore, to their detriment. Oh, the Chiefs will never get a back-to-back because teams rarely do...because they lose the hunger. Yeah, sure, how did that work out? If any of them still believe that Mahomes just doesn't have the edge for a 3-peat, they ought to just keep it to themselves.
