I like this laptop but can you open it 180°?
@@Sini_s_picious no, he explained it on 2:20
@@xVeedz oh thanks, i didn't see it 😅
Following a comment you made about Samsung's Galaxybook Pro, I switched to a 17" Gram, which improved ALL of the gripes I had on the 2021 Samsung. NVMe Storage, Infrared camera for Hello sign-in, 12 Core vs 4. Granted Samsung 2022 has most of this (no NVMe though) oh... and DDR5... - very happy with these upgrades!
Touch-screen? No?
I literally bought the 17 inch 2022 model... yesterday, based on your observations. Thank you Mathew!
Hope you enjoy it!
Make a user review 💪💪😂😂
Just so everyone knows, the 2-in-1 model with the same CPU but 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage often goes on sale for ~$1K at Costco.
I just got super lucky. I got the 2in1 (512gb btw) for $750 at Costco.
@@tanker242 Niiiiiccceeeee. Congrats, that's an awesome deal!
Is this good for streaming, video editing, and graphic design?
@@rayrayballer1 no
@@tanker242 I grabbed it for $799 recently. Have you been enjoying it?
I replaced my Surface Laptop with a Gram 15 a few years ago, and replaced that with a Gram 16 when the chance came. The Surface Laptop was better in many ways but you just can't argue against this amount of screen real estate and battery life for the weight.
And price
Which surface was it? And what ways was it better?
I got the Gram 16 RTX 3050 for mostly office work, youtube watching and occasional flight sim. Compared to the regular Gram 16, the screen feels sturdier and doesn't wobble, and the speakers sound much better (higher wattage than on regular Gram 16). I also tested ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 but prefered Gram's light weight. I will miss the red nipple on ThinkPad but so far no regrets.
Soldering the RAM killed this laptop for a lot of people. 2x NVME is really nice though and should become standard wherever possible.
Agreed, have only had one laptop with double nvme slots and it's such a great feature
32 gigs of ram is alot. How much you want?
@@amirmousawi9156 The ability to change out a defective RAM module instead of having to throw the entire machine away? With a machine that is not constraint by size, soldering is unacceptable + the longevity of a machine is directly proportional to the amount of parts that can be replaced. Also 64Gb for a Dev is basically midrange, 32Gb is alright but cutting it close. Enough reasons?
@@owlmostdead9492 With these requirements you need a ThinkPad, not an LG. And honestly, how often do RAM modules fail? In approx. 25 years of using computers it's never happened to me.
@@areluc Within the last 2 Months, I had two independent RAM failures from two friends in which I had to debug hardware issues. Also modern thinkpads are garbage.
I bought my gen 7 x1 carbon thanks to your review and I’d be buying a LG gram. Always dropping gems🎉
Love the fact that it's Lightweight and it has a somewhat matte finish on the screen (that means it might be useable in outdoor shady situations) but do wish it was a minimum 400nits (preferably 500nits). I also wish that they had a AMD 6800/6900 version because of AMD's efficiency (= better battery life)....more battery is always better imo. Re: the review, nice job. I'd like to have heard how you determined battery life of 11hours?..150nits looping video play?...I wish reviewers would do a more realistic battery test...I mean who would watch a video at 150nits...How about a mixed productivity battery test at 100% screen brightness..even if you have to project the battery life based on 2 or 3 hours of usage. Just a suggestion as the 150nit standard test is pretty useless for determining the real life battery life of a laptop. Again, just a suggestion for ways to meet your viewers needs. Thanks for listening.
Yeah, I also wonder if LG wants leading battery life, why not using AMD instead
who uses 100% brightness??
@@brucelee7782 I do.
@@jetmartin9501 how are you typing this as you are blind?
@@brucelee7782 Evidently I don't have to hunt and peck like you do. 🤣😂🤣
I like thin and light laptops like this but once you understand cooling and thermal throttling you see things different. It is a pretty cool laptop though, (considering the target) but for me, the LG View monitor seems to be a more interesting device.
For the vast amount of office task it shouldnt overheat or throttle so the bigger battery screen and lightweight are grestly appreciated
@@sentryion3106 Soy devs will fix that. They've got bloat that will make a supercomputer catch fire.
whaaat so is this a good laptop or not?
Omg! I love that outro! So fluid!
THanks! Hope you're doing well
That thing is wobbling like crazy!
Pathetic, isn't it.
Great video…what laptop do you think is best if keyboard and 10 key is biggest factor. Have accounting firm and looking at laptop.
Costco had it on sale for a killer deal $400 off at $1099... unfortunately missed it, hoping the deal returns
Right now for 900!
The deal is back rn.
I bought one of these because the mouse switches on my old dell wore out. That wouldn't happen here because there's NO SWITCHES. Ok, I can tap, but that only works SOMETIMES. What a nightmare. Currently trying to return it, but Amazon are being VERY difficult! I'd never buy from Amazon again.
LG is doing an ecxellent job with their laptops. I wish they could do the same with their smartphones!!!
But why'd they discontinue??
I wish Microsoft and Huawei weren't the only OEMs that used 3:2 :(. Appreciate its not for everyone so a mix of 3:2 and 16:10 is best.
Hey mate, thanks for your work, great vid.
Was just wondering what the variables/context of your trial was to achieve 11hrs battery life?
Tx for the review and tx for the sponsor too, v helpful
You're welcome! Thanks for watching = )
Man, i love your channel ♥♥. Please do a video on "Best 2 in 1 (not detachable) Laptops 2022: Top 10 2 in 1 (not detachable) Laptops You Can Buy!"
I got ultraportable Asus ROG Flow X13 2021 with Ryzen 9 and Full HD 120Hz panel for $1000 and m loving it!
Lg gram intel 12th gen(14 inch) vs Fujitsu UH-X 12th gen(13.3 inch). Which one should I pick? They are so similar.
What about for photography! I need something for Adobe PS and Lightroom.
I just got a HP Aero. Love the lightness but miss a bigger screen. This LG is looking good but what is it with Window laptops always missing a full.size SD card slot?
Why do you always have to talk about Macbooks when doing other reviews? Always. Very nice review.
There are area macbook always did the best. Like the build quality, trackpad, screen hinge, and speaker. There are not the best but hard to ignore
@@rajaafifi4280 Na.
Because this is the Windows alternative to the Mac Air. That’s the only reason why I’m even considering this.
Because thats the gold standard in pretty much everything apart from gaming and 3d
@@haleemulhassan9158 I guess that's why they have such a small market share compared to Windows.
I have last year's model with 11th gen chip amazing laptop unfortunately don't get much use out of it as work provided me a MacBook. I personally prefer this laptop though!
Good review! I just missed the battery life. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Some black laptops attract more fingerprints than others which I have. Just another thing I like about the Macbooks, no fingeprints to speak of
Thanks for the review.
You're very welcome !
Hey Matt, can you review the Thinkbook 16P?
Waiting for a Surface Laptop with ARM. Huawei will do too. Until then will stick with my OG Surface Pro X with brydge keyboard.
My LG Gram 16 managed 40 days before trying to regularly cook itself at almost zero load - 85-90+C temps with the fans going wild - for no reason. Not that LG seems to care.
So based on my experience so far, don't touch them with a bargepole until they fix their shitty support attitude and the random overheating.
When it wasn't impersonating a portable heater, the screen, keyboard and other stuff were just fine. I used my mostly with external displays, but did several multi-hour sessions on trains & planes where the screen was pretty good. Portability was great, weight to screen size really good, even if it was a bit bendy
Should I worry about burn in on the dell xps 15 9520? If so, how can I prevent it?
Waiting for acer swift X
03:18
it is a very big shame
2560x1600 is not 3:2 but 16:10
too bad in math
Magnesium is great. Just don't set it on fire. 🔥 Magnesium burns white hot, and caused Mercedes to get out of Motorsports. For many DECADES. (LeMans 1955 crash). This is why LG tuned the Gram so conservatively. Not really, but that sounded reasonable 🤔 😅
Should have put an AMD chip in this. Intel only makes sense for beefier laptops.
I saw all those trolls hating on the MB Air M2 because it had no fan, though still performed like a beast. Just try these 12th-gen Intel machines in no-fan mode, and then your will realise the magic Apple did with the Air M2!
LG Grams are not performance-orientated, TBH they are a bit slow. I have an 8th-gen, and it is okay for basic tasks like office stuff, but if you need performance sometimes then do not buy it. I do bang it around and it looks and works like new, so solidly made. I would def get the Galaxy Book2 Pro over this, especially as the Samsung sells munch cheaper on marketplaces like eBay. Then again wait for the 15-inch MB Air M2 and get the best!
8th gen and 12th gen intel are quite difference in performance; somewhat comparable to the m2 in terms of raw power.
book 2 pro would be my go to if they included usb a
Why don't they centralise the track pad?
No fingerprint scanner? Come on, that's a deal breaker! Even my 2017 LG Gram has one. That's of the reasons I went with the Samsung Ultra Book 3. Nothing to do with the 4070 it comes with.
It is usb-c style charged or barrel charged?
Where can i find it ?
16" isn't a happy medium. 17" is what makes this better than macbooks. Apple stopped making those. They should have 19" by now, but Tim Apple doesn't swing that way, only cares about phones.
Any plans to review the Acer Swift Edge? Even lighter than the LG Gram and comes with AMD 6800 based processor.
Yup! Video coming out tomorrow
@@MatthewMoniz plz review about the display(eye fatigue) and battery(65wh would be insufficient i think for OLED 4k). Thanks!
So, to get the laptop a few pounds lighter LG just made it flawed in every other aspect...great. This is precisely why we do not name LG when it comes to laptops.
These laptops are targeted at business users. People who need portability over raw performance.
What do u recommend , I need a 2 n 1 for graphic design , video editing, and streaming
Seriously i ve seen empty space that could be used for extra sodimm and you wont make the laptop much heavier
Kind correctness - it has 16:10 display, not 3:2
30:10 with 2 displays together is what I meant to say
@@MatthewMoniz aha, ok
Telus… that name awakens fear in the youth of my country lol
Who the hell just rubs their laptop while using it and go "Wow this feels so premium" like if it looks nice and runs nice I'm happy
Light as a feather this one. But is the battery life better?
I talk about battery life in the video. I forget how much the 2021 model has I'd have to check my video.
I own a 17in version but the Samsung book Pro is a much better buy
I bought the LG Gram 16 inch recently with the i7-1260p. Does anyone have the fan kick in a bit heavy while charging?
I would like it to be 200 gram heavier and with an additional fan for cooling
Only 11 hours of baterly life ? I was hoping for more considering how much it costs. Because macbook air m1 get 15+ .
Macbooks use ARM architecture which is much more power efficient.
@@oldbot64 So there is pretty much no windows laptop that can do 15+ hours?
@@wordpress4373 Depends on the workload, but I dont know of any. There are some ARM based Windows machines with great battery life but there are too many compromises right now. Even the M1 macbook can't reach 15 hours if you're doing any real work. As for me, any laptop that can last a whole work day away from the socket (8-10 hours) is good enough.
@@oldbot64 have you got a review of new Lenovo ideapad 5 pro?
"A little more bass".
Sir, you do realize that is a laptop right?
For the life of me, I don't understand why these laptop manufacturers care so little about their products that they won't even tighten up the hinges! God only knows how loose it will be after a year or two of daily use. Like with the HP Omen & Victus, that screen wobble on the LG Gram looks ridiculous.
The wobble is necessary for that 1 finger/hand opening screen. Macbook does the same.
I think the engineers behind it exactly know why.
@@admiralspyro9722 Yeah, the hinges weren't moving while it was wobbling. That was the flex of the screen. It just needs a stiffening ridge across the back or something to dampen the wobbles. (Ironically, loose hinges could dampen the wobbles.)
Rtx 2050?
Screen refresh rate only 60Hz ? this is a joke at this price and in this day and age.
No 120hz for this price is becoming a dealbreaker
It is 16 : 10 not 3:2.
😍 😍 😍
Too bad that the webcam is very low quality for 2022
Do you recommend a travel case that would hold both the LG Gram 16 laptop and the LG +view all in one case?
It’s more wobbly
I have the same T shirt as you 🤣
adobe rgb 8% wtf
LOL that's accident it should say 87%
Intel graphics chip for that price
I think the galaxy book 2 pro is better but this laptop looks very good
Just buy an MacBook Air. No fan with smooth experience.
Once again? Are you a Jedi? You wave your hands too much... like for every word...
the legion slim 7 is better overall as its thin and has better specs and performance
The LG Gram's weight would put it in a separate product category from the legion slim 7. It's almost half the weight of the latter.
Slim and light is 2 different words and meaning ma dude
Nah lol. The LG is better and blows that Legion out of the water. LG Gram has better speakers, design, and a better screen. Also, the fact that itbhas the brand recognition of LG amd the costumer service that comes with it is eons better than Lenovo's shit costumer service.
nope , the legion is no where near as light . what’s the point of being thin if it weighs nearly twice more
Is this an LG Gram ad?
Is this a Samsung Comment?
The hinge is garbage, do better LG.
