- The plaintiffs say they rented a home from the “creepy” defendant. The plaintiffs allege the defendant peeped into their window and went through their trash, so they had to get out. The plaintiffs are suing their former landlord because they claim he is illegally withholding part of their security deposit. The defendant argues the plaintiffs damaged the floors and walls, so he denies owing a dime.

I don’t know what irked me more, Doug touching and moving the girls hair or the old man saying “ you can’t always tell by the color of their skin”
It was all a mess🤮
The color of their skin got me. What an asshole!
Yeah, they were both doing too much. I literally yelled, "Don't touch her," then 10 seconds later "the color of their skin, what!"
Rite!!

For once, the landlord has reasonable paperwork.

Her problem was that she didn't fill out the entry report properly.

In the after verdict interview. Doug asked the old creepy racist. They seemed like lovely people. And old racist said you can’t always tell by the color of their skin. WTH was that??? Did the editor take off his headset and just not listen to the interview and he just trusted it was ok? I hope anyone who rents from him watches this mini interview so they know what kind of landlord he is.
Literally scrolled down to see if anyone else heard that. Damn.
Im glad the editor left it in. Let the world see that he's a racist dirt bag.
So what you people are so triggered these days. Before social media people used to speak freely. I understand you can't relate.
@@marilynwillett804
He said because they were white he expected better. White doesn't automatically mean they are going to leave a apartment in better shape and being a person of color doesn't mean they are going to trash the place automatically either. He made a racist remark. And he should be slapped for saying something so vile. And the fact you agree with him and don't find anything wrong with it tells me you may be part of the problem too.
They cleaned up the apartment cleaner then it was before they moved in. And yes they were wrong to paint, and they left some paint outside and it spilled a little in the driveway, and there were some scuffs on the front room floor. Believe me I use to clean apartments for my grandma who owned a couple apartment buildings. And I saw a lot worse left by a lot of tents.
@marilynwillett804 what he said was racist, period. Wtf are you talking about?
Even if the plaintiff's never told him about the mold he could clearly see it for himself. As a landlord I'm sure he viewed the unit before they moved in and saw the mold. I would think he should have done something regardless if the tenant said anything about it. And based on the before picture of the bathroom , I believe the plaintiff that the burn mark was already on the floor and other damages were there already too.
I really agree with this....the landlord should've never rented out the apartment if the bathroom was in that condition. I mean that is a health hazard. and before anybody saids ohh well the tenant saw and didn't complain....they probably couldn't find anything else and was desperate.

This is so old I’m surprised it’s still getting this many views! I believe I was in my early 20’s here. A good lesson learned though
Every time I move into a new rental, I spend at least 2 hours filling out the condition report. I normally contradict everything they have written, because these landlords want to rent out slums, but be given back a house or apt that looks like new, & when it looks the same as when you move in, they keep your security deposit
Yep me too! I had slum lord once, try to charge me $1000 for brand new oven bc he tried to clean it & locked it before he set it to clean cycle. I put like 5k into house w his written permission (incl plans) & that backfired on him bc had writing
SAME! I take picture with the timestamp app because they are admissible in court. Last place I lived in tried to charge me for painting. I had picture proof that all the marks on the walls were there before me. Took a few weeks of ridiculous fighting with the property management company but I got the money back.
That was her only problem. She didn't fill out all the problems in her entry report. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to keep so much of their deposit.
Cause he didn't have before pictures, which is strange.
I once replaced the carpet and painted and they still kept my entire deposit.
@martywestcott1536 she can comment abt what she wants, when she wants, and anyone petty enough to comment on it shouldn't try to deny her civil right to do so..!

Doug is officially a creeper. I always suspected it but man...never ever touch someone without permission. When he moved her hair my skin crawled. First Harvey with his inappropriate 'jokes' now Doug. Guess Im done with Peoples Court.

No I think Doug is a perfectly kind gentleman I think that he's very professional and maybe he him moving her hair aside so that the people watching could see her quote maybe was a little bit presumptuous of him to think she would be okay with that but he just moved her hair a little bit so that people that are watching could see the lovely quote that she had there.. I think Doug is old school and it's refreshing to see I think you're completely misunderstanding him I do think Harvey on the other hand is a little bit political and Hollyweird
In the hallway interview with Doug, the defendant meant it exactly as he said it. If someone is speaking of a person's character or personality and the other person mentions their skin color, they definitely are bigots. Nobody else is thinking abt the color of a person's skin but THEM, which is why they dont have any qualms saying so.
I honestly don’t think that’s what he meant. It sounds like English isn’t his first language and I think he meant you can’t always tell by the way someone seems how they really are inside

Yes, well, it also happens that Tony is a slick slumlord. The “justice” system is not always just. Granted, they were naive. But he saw that a mile away and capitalized on it.
They didn’t get rid of the mold, they painted over it. They are idiots.

Don't rent to black people every landlord knows that
And he’s an immigrant himself! 🤡
That's not how it works, exactly. Since he favored them based off the color of their skin, they weren't discriminated against. Now, if there were other applicants (with other skin tones) that were denied the housing at that time, then they may have a case, based on his own admittance. Nonetheless, it was a cruel and stupid thing to say. Pisses me off to think that people still think like this.

She left the place immaculate, she was very cheerful, he was nice.
Back in 85 I sued a landlord that wouldn't return my deposit. I left because of a noisy neighbour. The resident manager handed me a blank lease, asked me to read it and fill it out myself later. I got my deposit back, he tried to counter sue me for 3 months rent which he said took that long to rent the apartment. However someone from a lower floor moved into my place right after I moved out. I normally don’t watch the after verdict interviews because the loser is salty and the winner is smug. After I read your comment I had to listen to the after verdict interview. Oh hell I can’t believe he said that. And that the show didn’t edit that out. Was the editor just not paying attention to what was said or did he just want to make sure that anyone who watched knew he was racist.
I am thinking....hoping... he meant sometimes you can't tell people's TRUE colors.... might have been a Fraudian slip there tho......
