Thanks for answering my question!! I was asked this question and thought I would ask a person who inspires me 😅 I answered in the same fashion. I perfer to be free and have the creative drive and not being pressured with high demand and massive production. I want my name to be big in the sense of being unique and one day having value of being the only 1 or 3 in the world with a piece of mines. Thanks again for sharing with us all and being open.

I am opening up a huge, hair salon in a warehouse sort of space. I would love to have some young designers featured. My goal is someone comes with a friend and sells their jewelry, art, clothes etc in my salon keeping all of their profit while being promoted on social media for say the week, weekend or month. In return they would help with folding towels, sweeping, getting coffee for clients.

It took me years to find out creating jewelry was not what I wanted. I absolutely love art deco jewelry, and my passion is to buy pieces and restore them. Never put pressure on yourself, don't force yourself to sell and make money right away. My first goal was to get compliments on the pieces I created/ restored.

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

I love this! Couldn't agree with you more. Having a clear reason why you're doing something can be invaluable. And if that reason is simple, like having fun, receiving compliments, feeling accomplished, then it's much easier to create. Business and money might follow, but shouldn't be the main goal. We need to enjoy the process for this craft to succeed. And putting pressure on that craft to support us might turn out badly. I love that you were able to realise one thing didn't make you happy and you moved onto another, discovering the real passion! And restoring existing items is incredible. All the best for you! ❤️

22:05 Thank you so much for answering this, and sorry I waited a whole month to watch this, I wanted to wait till my break from school so I could sit down and understand everything. Seriously the response really helped me and I'm starting to feel better about this. Thanks for your videos. I only discovered you a few days ago, but I'm watching your videos non stop. You are an inspiration!
I have been making handmade bojoux for a few years. From time to time I sell something, but life has always "distracted" me from this passion of mine. After this "particular" year, I decided to seriously dedicate on what I love, and I decided to book a "Jewelery Making" course at a Glasgow school. I was full of doubts .. I kept thinking "Did I make the right decision? Is it worth it? What if I'm wrong?"
But after watching your videos, I feel full of new energy, and can't wait to start the course!

Wow you’re so right about finishing things! I’ve recently filmed a video about making two pendants from one. The original pendant just wasn’t right but I went through a process and split the pendant into two and I love them both! In fact I put them on FB and I’ve sold one of them 😃😃. Please keep up the good work, I love your hints and tips xxxxx

wow, that's so awesome! I think it's great to be able to let go sometimes, and allow the process of transformation to make smething even better. I have a few pieces like that, they just live my drawer now, because I couldn't let go of the original idea...while not finishing them either! It might be time I take them out and transform them into something new. Otherwise it's a waste of materials, among other reason. Thank you so much for watching and your lovely comment! 🥰

I think procrastination, perfectionism and other similar feelings are very commons, especially among creatives, regardless what they do. It's probably unavoidable the moment you have a clear vision of what you want to be or make, and they follow you wherever. It seems like we need to unlearn these things in a way even, and train our brains to be more accepting of our own work! Hahaha, it's crazy 😂 I'm very excited for you to get back, and I wish you all the best! Don't pressure yourself too much, make sure you have fun ❤️

Ahh, I see! Sorry, I didn't understand earlier. So, for these I used something called a "gallery wire" or a "decorative bezel wire", you can find different ones if you search for these phrases :) If the stone has a nice looking back, or is see through, you can even cut out the back and make it look even more beautiful ❤️

I have had downtime like this as well! I have used it to learn! Also I researched what other makers on etsy and other platforms were doing that seemed to work. For example the way they take their pictures! For this I started following a bunch of photography pages on IG. I started learning ways to photograph small items and is sometimes called macro photography (if you want a name to search on Google). I also learned how to make my own small light box that was all white! You can spend a lot of money on these OR you can make them with Bristol board and some foam board from the dollar store 😮!!! Then your background is perfectly white and shows your work even better! You can even put a plant or something else in there that creates cool pics! You can be really creative with this! Lots of light is key!! Sometimes I take pics with fabric in the background but I learned through trial and error that it has to be plain colours! But you can use different textures... like satin or the white fake fur you see around IG!
Or I looked at pricing. All of this is research!
Anyhow... don't give up!! I wish you all the best!
Hopefully something here will spark that imagination!

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  3 роки тому +1

Wow, your answer is AMAZING, thank you! I totally agree with everything. When you're stuck, when you're feeling down, when you have a break, the best thing you can do is RESEARCH. It's productive, you're learning and I've noticed that a "seide effect" is that you will get motivated and inspired as you research! Because the more know, the more ideas you'll start having! And you never know, you might've been stuck, simply because you didn't know how to do something, and you felt lost. So I will add to what Kat said, to watch UA-cam videos. There's just SOOOO much amazing info, you have no idea. On EVERY subject. But also remember, that you don't always HAVE TO be productive. On the contrary. Sometimes you need a break, and you need to do something else. After resting for a period of time, you might feel the natural need to come back to something, and start doing again! ❤️

Hej Aniu! Ja to zrobiłam i strzeliło mi do oka, bo prawo Murphy'ego.

Thank you for answering my question about hobbies and interests! Also a Cancer here, I knew there was a reason I resonated with you so strongly 🥰
I am a huge movie buff also! My favorites right now are drama, horror, thriller, and period dramas! And I am living for A24 movies, definitely my favorite production studio ✨
Maybe once a month or so you could list some of your favorite movies you’ve watched recently? New, old, any genre! I’m always looking for new stuff to watch and I would personally love to see what you like also ☺️ maybe you could add it to your Insta stories or a small bit on your videos? Just suggestions, you totally don’t have to do this LOL

Wow, it's awesome you're also a Cancer! :) Water signs unite! ❤️ And I love your idea! I think I could bring back the "favourites" panel and talk about other things, not just jewelry related? Like movies, series, food, other makers and artists etc. Really lovely suggestion, thank you! ❤️ Ok, I'm so excited for this! 🥰 I might make one as soon as next week, combine it with the vlog, I'm so stoked hahaha :))
