Sport mode advances timing in the engine, typically you’d want to warm up the engine to operating temp before reaching higher rpm’s and driving harder, hence starting in normal mode every time
Dear Sir - You have both technical knowledge and common sense. You are not welcome on the internet and we'd ask that you leave and never return. Have a nice life. 😉
1. Volume knob's mechanical function (he doesn't like the amount of "notchiness", can't use one finger) 2. No drive mode memory recall (reverts to default mode after a change) and reverts to ugly blue screen. 3. Can't disable auto start-stop. (Three years old video, it's now user definable.) 4. Blinky light doesn't match blinky sound. (It's not in sync.) Huh. 5. No audible blind spot warning. (Can't see the *ucking Miata hiding there). Other than that, it's a perfect vehicle.
You have to go into the display settings menu to turn on the tach. The tachometers on the ST aren’t turned on from the factory . I’ve turned lots of them on at the dealership.
I have a 2020 ST, to disengage the autostop/start in normal driving mode, just push that button you showed in the center console (A with circle around it). That's at least how mine works
Love these SUVs. I had a Santa Fe before, it was the biggest POS car I’ve ever owned. Engine blew up at 56,000 miles, transmission slipped, basically the whole front suspension had to be replaced by 100,000 miles. The issues and complaints people have with these are pretty minor in my book.
1: Who is using the knob when there is a steering wheel volume control?! Not even an issue. Make it titled “4 things I hate about my wife’s Exploder ST” 😆
I'm just thankful I have a button to turn off the auto start stop function, in my 2015 Malibu I had to just deal with it and try to drive it so that it would do it less , (not push brake all the way down) and it sucked because it cuts my subwoofers off every time it auto stops. I'm thankful at this point to have the button in my ST lol...
Sounds like should have opted for the Lincoln suv or even the platinum or king ranch explorer. Much nicer interior products. I think Ford has done a fabulous job creating so many model variants to there lineup so each buyer can get what they want out of a Ford vehicle
Nothing to say about the portrait orientation of the infotainment screen? If all you have is the 5 gripes you presented here, then I know I’ll be happy when I get mine.
The piped in artificial exhaust sounds are such an engineering cop-out!!! I still want one but when I heard about that I was very disappointed. Borla may be in order for mine.
I agree completely. The Sport mode screen should be the default screen for the normal mode. Also the auto start stop is bullshit. Should be able to buy a module to turn it off completely. Like it’s going to save you any gas and you’ll be replacing your starter every 40,000 miles
You can just press that auto start stop button you mentioned and it will turn the auto start stop off just like sport mode. At least in our 2020 model you can. I have to say, ours is the biggest POS we have ever owned from any manufacturer. It's so bad, I would think it was a lemon, but Ford has replaced so many things under warranty and then its right back getting those exact things replaced again with more OEM parts. Good luck getting the parts too. Everything is always on backorder. It even took them a month to get a tire when we had tire separation issues. It's basically at the Ford Dealership once a month since we bought it in 2021. I love the power though!
I wish these petty things are all I had to worry about. I have a 2024 Dodge Durango Hemi with 8000 miles on it. It has spent 16 weeks in shop in appx a year. About to pull engine this time for an apparent bad rear main bearing. Rear end has been replaced, and moon roof has been replaced. That’s just the bug stuff. Been a nightmare. Can’t wait til I can get rid of it. Going to lose my ass because no dealer wants them on trade.
The only thing I agree being a issue is auto start / stop & blind spot not having a audible sound . Then again I’ve been driving since the 90s so I never had tech to rely on just common sense. I was wondering about mechanical issues mainly & if you have any serious issues with the vehicle.
Your 100% right on engine shut off love my ST any engine with turbos should not shut off until they spool down so i told wife turn that shit off every time you drive!!!!!
All valid points, very similar things I dislike, especially at that price range. Performance is great but the fit and finish has me hesitant to purchase one VS X3 M40i. I need something that can tow close to 6000lbs to drag my race car to the track now that I am finally retired from the Army. Good vid.
I'm not an SUV guy and I'd never buy one myself...BUT I love these things! I got a Focus ST myself. I see these all the time driving to work and we give eachother the ST nod as we pass lol. Badass rigs. My gf is thinking about getting an Edge soon...and I'm going to push for an ST Edge...obviously lol.
I went from a 21 mustang gt to the explorer ST. I miss the mustang, but for a family, I love the st I don’t regret it one bit I absolutely recommend it.
So the audible warning would only go off if the driver attempted to merge/change lanes with a vehicle in the sensor warning zone. Not every time theres a passing vehicle.
LOL.....I'm looking to buy one of these ST's this week, and all 5 of those things would piss me off to. I'll test drive another one tomorrow and I'll check those 5 issues. Thanks.
Same as the plastic oilpan on my F150. Make sure to buy and change the plastic oil plug on every oil change and you won't have a problem. They are cheap, and changing them will ensure that you never strip it or the pan.
About blind spots, I’ve always thought why not have the power exterior mirrors pivot L&R a couple times when turn signal is active? Make any scene to anyone besides me?
Jose Arambula it can use either, the ECU will compensate for the fuel octane. There’s a slight but certainly noticeable bump in power using 91-93 over 85-87
Wah wah wah… Everyone has their own wants and opinions. As for me I’d prefer more knobs to be a “notchy” knob. I’d like to be able to remove any blind spot system as I hate any flashing lights or sounds in my periphery. I’d prefer no lane assist and no pre collision breaking but hey those are wishes, nothing to get bent over. But I do agree on the mode recall & the auto start stop.
Bro I hate how slow the dash is when switching modes.. also I noticed you keep your “iPad” on auto mode.. I like mine on permanent night mode for some reason. I really hate how when you lock the car the gas door can still be opened mind you there is no gas cap so anyone can pour sugar or some foreign object down the pipe. There is a few more thing I dislike but just like you said.. the list of things I love about the ST is way bigger than the things I hate about it...
This is every ford, for the past 8 years or so. You require the supplied ford nozzle to put anything other than a gas station pump into the filler neck.
No car company can mfgr a perfect vehicle. Your complaints are mostly petty. With the auto start stop, that was not decided by Ford, but by law. If your irked by these five complaints, by all means, trade it on another vehicle and spend more money. I suggest you try a rental for a short time to check out these type of complaints. Sure glad you didn't buy a Ford Lightening to start with, you'd really have a complaint list!
Auto start/stop is so annoying. Every time it stops the engine, I have to move a half second later. Even if you’re stopping the car to put it in park, the engine cuts off so quickly before you can even put it in park, so as soon as you put it in park, the engine turns back on, only for me to turn it off because I just parked. This is so much unnecessary wear and tear on the engines starter and spark plugs.
There’s a dedicated auto start on/off button. It’s not a knock on ford. That’s a federally mandated thing. My x3m doesn’t remember sport mode and I have to turn off auto start every time. Oh noes I have to look at my mirrors. Same as my bmw. Meh/10 video. Also, audio dial notching > no notching
Doesn't the auto start button disable it in other modes besides sport? And yeah, its not remembered so you need to do it every time you start the car. heres a few on my list: Buggy, slow to respond interface for radio. fact that its got black wheels (with the street or track package) but they put silver lugs on it? Gigantic sensor/speaker on the windshield attached to the rear view mirror - its way too big! Super slow to respond mode changes. Super slow to load interface when starting the car. Stupid design of the initial screen for backup camera, and no way to customize it? We have this giant screen, but you cant fill more than half of it with the camera? No full screen for apple carplay? My list goes on and on as well. but it sure goes fast and drives well.
Kia Telluride has fully loaded with their nightfall package. Ram 1500 bighorn thru the limited edition both those vehicles actually get your money worth. Still like the ST
I owned a Prius and coming to the Explorer ST I have to say the auto stop/start is bloody weird! Is anyone else's jerky? My Prius V was awesome. But YOLO!
In your honest truth from this video would you still recommend the st or should I wait for the 2022 or should I get a used one with some very low mileage ?
It’s not overbearing, it’s definitely obviously fake because it sounds like a V8 but the engine is a V6 lol. I think you can use FORSCAN to turn it off I just haven’t done it yet.

Or do not depress your brake all the way.If you just hold your brake enough to keep the car from moving it will not do the start/stop--but if you depress it a little harder when you come to a complete stop it goes.I just brake earlier and hold the brake lightly in my Stinger and mine resets anyway even if you hit the button it will put itself back on while driving and it is annoying. But I rent cars and every car that has this will not activate if you lightly keep your foot on the brake.
We love our 2022 ST. Can agree with the drive mode memory, also wish Cruise Control would stay on and not have to select it after every start up. Our biggest complaints: 1. Steering wheel is smaller, on longer drives, you can not rest your elbows on any hard surface and also have your hands on the steering wheel. 2. Backing up on driveway or road with a slight incline where it meets another level road surface may activate automatic braking, car thinks you may hit the pavement going from hill to level area. Catches you off guard first few time this happens, its violent! 3. Vertical Display of touch screen creates a very cramped and not userfriendly display when looking at maps and other displays. This has been fixed in 2024!

I agree with the sport mode issue, They need to change that! Everything else wouldn’t bother me.

1: Who is using the knob when there is a steering wheel volume control?! Not even an issue. Make it titled “4 things I hate about my wife’s Exploder ST” 😆
Marc Warmuth old habits bro
😁 Who is looking at the turn signal arrows?! Just checked and my ‘13 F-150 does the same haha.

How do you feel about the plastics below the center screen and around the driver's display? They look below standard to me.
They sure do !
I don’t want audible blind spot

The ST tows 5600 pounds...
Just ordered my 2022 rapid red ST
Only 5 modes?
Cute. Mine has like 7. 2022.
Tach shows on mine.

She looks super good! What was the price out the door?
Did Ford update the ability to turn off the stop/start function?
you can turn it off there is a button and he showed it what he means is you can't permanently disable it without a tune or plug
Agree with your 5 issues 100 percent. Especially the Spurt mode. The other modes are terrible and I would love mine to stay in Sport mode.
Wow how entitled we’ve become. There’s people living out of grocery carts and we whine about such pettiness….
Blind spot sound might distact you from driving?
I think Livernois make a chip for that, it also give over 100+ hp ,have one in my Aviator. Its a must have. Sport mode and no auto start/stop

Same as the plastic oilpan on my F150. Make sure to buy and change the plastic oil plug on every oil change and you won't have a problem. They are cheap, and changing them will ensure that you never strip it or the pan.
UPR makes an easy drain plug for the ST already.

Forscan is your friend when it comes to ST
That's what I'm saying. Love that program!
It’s a fast cool SUV to own. You might make it to 150k-200k if you’re lucky. I’m trading mine in for a 4Runner.
About blind spots,
I’ve always thought why not have the power exterior mirrors pivot L&R a couple times when turn signal is active? Make any scene to anyone besides me?
100% agree with you. Just got mine last Saturday. I had one. If you use apple car play you can’t use the regular GPS.
It uses Regular unleaded or premium fuel?
Jose Arambula it can use either, the ECU will compensate for the fuel octane. There’s a slight but certainly noticeable bump in power using 91-93 over 85-87
Your grips are comical 😂😂
How much approx do you pay for it?
Right around $60,000 after everything
This kind of just sounds like a list of things that drive your OCD side wild. Other than the auto start stop point that you made, that is.
YOU ARE FINE, and you giving me military, Army to be exact!!!

Not everybody looks in the mirror and those idiots cause accidents
