That's the thing with Brundle's commentary - his measured voice always has that "don't get too carried away folks, something could play up" which given it's F1 is always possible but it definitely seemed switched on there.
That Kravitz report at Monza is fascinating. Pat Symonds was unimpeachable until then; Piquet was just sacked, and potentially had an axe to grind. So it makes sense to say “of course he asked him to crash, yeah right”. For those who weren’t around at the time, Renault’s U-turn a week later was as stunning as it was astounding. I think all the evidence in the case is available online. It includes the radio conversations of the Renault team, which not only is guilty as sin but also shows Alonso had no idea of the plan, as he was told before the race he would be 3-stopping.

Exactly! Alonso knew nothing, then again Alonso always knows nothing, other than himself. Their is absolutely NO WAY Renault of Piquet Jr. could have orchestrated all this to happen at that exact moment in the race.
And to think that just one race later, Alonso and Renault got the victory they wanted, on merit (yes Massa and Hamilton came together on the opening lap and both got penalties) at Fuji, which shows just how unnecessary the fixing of this race was!
Team released him too early in the pits and the fuel fipp line went with him. He had to stop in the pits and wait for his team to get it off and it put him in the back of the pack.
Massa was fucked over that night. If it weren't for Piquet crashing, the SC would never have come out, and Massa's pit crew wouldn't have succumbed to the pressure...
