    As the title suggests - it's the end of the line for this roomy 19th Century villa.
    No doubt very grand & in a good quiet location when it was first built; now it struggles
    to stay upright - surrounded by houses, supermarkets, gas stations...and a railway line.
    The mould, damp stains & peeling wallpaper, have created wonderful 'masterpieces' on the walls;
    a myriad of hues that are quite delightful to the eye.
    It's been for sale for a long time, but there doesn't seem to be any takers.
    Quite a sad end for this once proud dwelling.
    If only we could see it back then, bright & shiny, echoing with the sounds of activity & family.
    Let's try and imagine 'Waldegg' in her glory days.

    All of your videos are poetry in motion. Your camera always moves in so delicate way... like caressing every corner, wall and furniture, with a nostalgic and melancholic feeling of a past time that will never return. Thank you very much for that.

      +Andres Muriel ....and thank you very much for that! Your feedback is just as poetic - much appreciated. My urbex partner does the camera work, (so I'll tell her of your compliment, she often reads the comments and does her best with 'Google Translate'!) we both share the same vision when it comes to how we like to see a house explored; we want to give people time to soak up the details. Thanks for popping in friend :)

    I love going through your older videos and re-watching them. You do your videos with such finesse. Sometimes, in order to truly appreciate a house, not talking is essential and the music just adds a hauntingly beautiful touch as well. Thank you for always being so respectful and documenting these treasures that have been neglected and forgotten.

    So sad to see the decay. The men who built those staircases are long since gone. I loved the blue & white sink with the matching soap dish. Wonder how many hands have turned those old doorknobs. The fact that the keys are still in some of them is amazing!

    I had to see this again. Other folks would make a video of this & would just ramble through the house but not you. You make videos with artistry & sencitivity. You make us think of the place as not just a 'building' but as a 'home'. It's like the 'home' is sad that the family left it. Thank you for teaching me a new song. I can read music but can also play by ear.I hope someone might buy & fix the place up one day.

      +Candy Santillo A tangible link to the past - yes! My first house was late Victorian and behind some skirting board (baseboard in USA?) that I was replacing I found old photographs from that period. Looked like the first occupant was a photographer and used the under-stairs cupboard as a dark room. Ever since then I've always tried to uncover something no matter how small. It's endlessly interesting.

    It's such a shame that these houses sit abandoned and falling apart. There are so many homeless families that would love to have a house to live in. I wish the township or state or country would buy them and fix them up and offer them to live in them. Where I live we had a lot of abandoned houses that the state either sold at auction or demolished. Homeless people can't buy houses at auction. It's so sad. This was definitely one of my favorite houses. It showed decades worth of different things.

    You have not only got a new subscriber you have a new fan. The detail of your work. The time you spent to highlight so many things. We can all see from the first picture the house is small. As you said its only worth the land price. You preserved in history a surprisingly great find. Your choice of music. Your choice of still pictures. It made me think of family. It made me think of better times that happened in the house. The keys to the house left in the lock. A house someone won't even squat in. A house so close to the train tracks the owners would have gone def. Yet they had to live there. They were greatful for what they had. I'm sad that the house is dead. I'm happy the right person with a camera found the house. Found the house before nature or someone strikes it down. All the possitive comments below. They say volumes to what was made here. God bless you and your family.

    Haven't seen this one. What was once a beautiful house, beautiful staircase, all the old keys still in the doors! I was so involved in seeing inside, all the history and wonder of what was there, then when "we" came outside, aaaackkk the harsh reality of the modern day cars and traffic were a shock! The piano music was absolutely mesmerizing!

      The world has moved forward and left these dwellings behind. I'm sure someone out there must have documentation of, or perhaps mementos from the times when families shared joys, sorrows, and dreams in these homes. I would love to be able to hear some of the stories from those days.

    Imagination that's all it takes to see what a lovely little house this was. I do agree with you though that restoration wouldn't be worth it. The place is to decayed and the neighborhood has most definitely changed and not for the better. I can see that there was so much beauty in the place at one time. The tile was amazing also the staircase was awesome. I absolutely loved it. Well my many thanks and much gratitude for another amazing video. I loved the music and your little added additions in the window:) Thanks for another wonderful trip and for preserving this once charming and beautiful house and for sharing it with us. Thank you very much Doris! I thought the song/music very appropriate for this house.
      Yes, the staircase shows that this house, while not grand, was still very fine - and shows it was a
      dwelling of some wealth back then. Yes it's sad that the solid workmanship of the old days, is little
      appreciated by developers; and as you quite rightfully say - the
      condition of the place makes it
      not worthwhile..unless it's of very important historical value...they
      demolish.

    I haven't seen this one for awhile and once agin it brought tears ...You brought the house back once again if only for a brief moment.
    If walls could talk...
    People can come and take 'things' from the house ...but they can't take the many memories that the house knows went on within it's walls.
    Maybe someone might restore that house but even if that never happens you dear Oddie through making this video with such sensitivity let the house say; " See...I once existed and I wish my former tennents and you watching .... peace and love.
    Enjoy life now while you can as 'life' is short and the only thing that lasts is the love & memories."💖

      I'm happy you enjoy visiting the old place from time to time Ruth. It's still there and I drive past it regularly; more bits have fallen off it - the windows reminiscent of sightless eyes - decay consumes it bit by bit. A couple of years back there was was a model for an enlargement of the house, or for another house to replace it - but it either got knocked back by the planning dept. or the potential buyer backed out. The wooden model has gone and the house awaits its lonely fate.

    True, not a mansion of marvel and design, but a proud and simple house of function that once housed laughing children and loving parents. But it has it's stately side in that sweeping staircase. Simple but nicely made. Loved it. Also love the style of windows there. They open inward and outward in the middle, so lovely. American windows on the average, split up and down. More secure, but that says something about here. Balconies and full widows, yes, would have loved to have seen her in her youth. Sad that her age has caught up with her, but time rules us all. Saw the change of time in the fixtures too. The metal one on the outer door was curious, couldn't figure the function, but look to have been there for a while. Another good tour, Oddie, proving that it doesn't have to be a castle or manor house to be of interest. A sad house decaying in her memories.

    That old German song reminded me of the music my German ex-mother-in-law (RIP) would have listened as a young girl. She was a teenager towards the end of WWII when her family was fleeing and leaving their farm in Poland and going west because the Russian soldiers were coming. She used to say the Russian soldiers would gang rape the girls and some did not survive the brutal attacks. How sad. 😔

    Thank you for your comments. Sorry to hear about the extra stuff on the home & grounds. Nice to hear about the music. I found a video that Dan Bell made. It was about a place called Pitcher in Oklahoma. For yrs. mining of lead was done & the waste products were very toxic but the folks there didn't know it for yrs. Piles of gray waste can be seen there today. Folks back then put it in children's sand box's & they'd picnic on the stuff, kids would slay ride down it. On the side of a school building are names of the Allstate Honor Roll list & the name listed at 1997 Jeff McCoy became a parole officer & was killed in the line of duty in 1012. Also in 20 May 2008 there was an EF4 tornado in Pitcher that killed over 20 people including a baby. Realy sad.I know you don't have time to watch alot of videos but I thought it might be something to share.

      The chandelier, coat racks, kitchen gadgets from a bygone era, all after my heart, some bathroom fixtures.....all could be saved. Think I was born in the wrong era. This going to decay, breaks my heart. Doilies! Some unknown ladies work! Aaaahhhhh.........!

    I have investigated an old abandoned house or two in my time. It is always fascinating to see the ideas of each new owner superimposed over those of the previous. (I must admit, that I did love that stairway. Embarrassed, I wanted to rip it out of its foundations and re-purpose it!)

    Your filiming and music is top shelf. Perfect.
    When I looked at the sturdy well designed doors I thought of how good quality has been replaced with cheap imports. It's disheartening what has happened. This was not a wealthy home yet the doors and hardware were very good quality.

    In March I get to go the Salvation Army camp in West Virginia twice! Once for training & one for fun. We get to do crafts! I want to make a quilt.I want to list my fave Oddie videos by name. ( Need to make ALOT of em to list em all--hee hee) Will just put it together there. I'm afraid the Sal/Army doesn't go for anything ghost related. They think ghosts don't exist, but 'WE' know better. When done maybe can send pics to you. If that would be ok? Oh my it is almost 2 AM here in Maryland. It's been so cold here that bits of the Chesapeake here are frozen. I hope the ghosts at the lighthouse down the street from me have long johns. (Just kidding) I wonder if ghosts can feel temperature changes. I'll say good night from my time zone.

    Oddie this home has many charming things I know is decay but has beautiful tiles in the bath room,the little metal face the floor has small rooms and big ones too the staircase I imagine in the good times looks so beautiful full with love with a very nice family,around of the house with many plants maybe trees too,laughs I hope somebody likes the vintage homes and could be restored the home is pretty charming people in these days don't care about that is very very material world everything is about money they prefer make constructions like bird cages they name "fancy aparments" for good living I know some times we need changes but i hope somebody can restore the area looks pretty nice too Oddie the music I love it you always find a splendid music thank you very much for this video the home for me is charming .comfy ,beautiful for a good family live inside,it was a travel for the past too please don't stop doing this I learn many things and travel too and share feelings too God bless you I like it so much all the places,homes castles you make a lot of efforts but with that your heart go too have a wonderful funny day you deserve it take care so much my friend.

      Thank you very much Ana! I thought the song/music very appropriate for this house.
      Yes it's sad that the solid workmanship of the old days, is little
      appreciated by developers; it would've been quite a lovely place when first built.

    Oooooo!This was sooooo good!I find your videos so artfully done that they are museum worthy. This must have belonged to people who were rather ,well off?I really don't know but I was going by the 'modern amenities' of the day such as the special tiles? I find places like this so starkly,beautiful.The peeling paint,exposed lath,rusty knobs and keyholes always get to me.The touches that remind us that this was a home by showing the wall papers and curtains chosen with care,the crocheted cleaning cloth hanging on a nail as if someone just finished using it .The music was so appropriate that I didn't even notice it until the gentleman began singing.And when you stepped outside to show modern cars,a store and the microphone picked up the sounds of traffic ,an airplane and gravel crunching under your feet it was quite the wake up call that we hadn't really gone back in time.Thank you once again.I hadn't meant to get so wordy.

      +Candy Santillo Wow, that's a lovely compliment :) Yes, this house would've belonged to the upper middle class (although they don't have class systems in Switzerland, it may give you an idea of the social standing the original owners would have had) They would come from a working background, and had become wealthy through their industry. You picked up on my intention of reminding viewers that the outside is 'reality'...but inside we may imagine what we will...that we're walking through the rooms furnished in the style of the early part of the last century. This house is still standing....just. But it's due for demolition very soon; I'd like to film one more time and capture some EVPs.
      The song is about a soldier flirting with a young lady who tends bar in an inn - but sorry I forgot the title, is it not in the description?

    • @PurityVendetta
      @PurityVendetta 5 років тому

      @@ObsoleteOddity Ooh, an EVP session, I'll look forward to that if you can before the house is gone. I have a little collection of 78rpm records but sadly nothing to play them on. I'd like a wind up gramophone. The demonic house radiogram sounded fab by the way. That's a really posh one, stereo and push button channel selection. It would have been very expensive when new. I have a mono radio version made by the same company,bought at a French loft sale.

    • @ObsoleteOddity
      @ObsoleteOddity  5 років тому +1

      @@PurityVendetta Yes I must get back there before winter sets in, and before the house is hit by the ball.
      The radiogram is now in my workshop and warms up when the lights are turned, such a wonderful sound.

    This house seems to be missing any indication of the amenities that a home would have. At first I thought it was abuilding for railroad workmen until I read the description section. So barren. So stark and harsh looking. Usually even abandoned houses still hold some of the indications of comfort and warmth a home has.
