Player likeness could be uniform numbers, equipment specifications

That's along the lines of what we're thinking too.
It's going to be the most authentic likenesses in video game history because no other title has ever licensed thousands of real people to try and represent. For most, it will likely be as you said - uniform numbers, proper equipment, ht/wt, hometown/state, skin color. Even getting accurate generic faces is going to be tough for this many players, but hopefully EA is up to the challenge.

Traditionally if my memory serves me correctly, they never released trailers & commercials until the week leading up to the game release. I’d be shocked if an actual commercial came out before then

That's what we're thinking as well. It's probably less of a 'TV commercial' (though aspects might get used for it) and more of a UA-cam video that will be linked/shared everywhere for whatever reveal this is for.

Unless you've heard something else, 247 Sports' Brandon Marcello's report last week sounded like some schools aren't the best on working with EA on providing assets - which unfortunately is how it was back in NCAA Football as well. Some schools are proactive (asking for items to be in), some reactive (will sign off on anything EA puts in), but we're under the impression from others that all are likely to be in EA CFB this summer. As of now, we wouldn't worry about schools not being in.
