When I feel numb to the world, I listen to this song. One would have to be made of stone to not stream tears of sadness. I think this may be the most beautiful song ever recorded. I think this may be the saddest song ever written. "Maybe he'll fly on home." He's not coming back, Alison.
Because these guys represent the epitome of diligent practice and old world principles of musicianship and NO machines.......where the wonder of the human brain collides with inspiration!
Superb, I love this concert. I saw AKUS live @ The Cardiff Coal Exchange late 80,s.?? Brilliant. This is real music played by top notch artists. Thanks for sharing.🎶🙏❤️🙏❤️🎶
I love the tempo...it's perfect. Ok, so are the unresolved/resolved harmonies. And the balance. And the intonation. And the arrangement. And the awesome flat/non-vibrato. I wonder if it is possible to sing something like this when the same group is older a couple decades from now (if they still enjoyed doing so, and it wasn't a mechanical bore to them), or are they together at a perfect moment, never to exist again?
That last part is purely awesome and obviously someone there agreed with me. Funny how sometimes when you listen to live music you hear the audience sing along. When Alison sings, it's mostly silence.
been there done that....these lyrics mean so much to me....they are a snapshot of a couple of times in my life when someone left and I was left wondering WTF happened??!!
I saw them in KC recently. They looked tired (especially Alison). But still the performance was great! The over 2 hr concert passed in 10 minutes for me. She hits a tone on this song that brings tears to my eyes. (Must have been a hound dog in a past life LOL).
***** - it's Dan Tyminski (on mando for this song) and Barry Bales (bass) - the video actually features them again at 2:40 or so doing that same harmony part. Such a gorgeous harmony part.
"HEY GOOGLE.. I feel like crying.. but not a sad cry, just a sort of 'Reverence For The Unique Experience Of Being A Human' kind of cry." (brings me here) "Perfect."
Alison and the boys have that effect on people. If you like them, please don't stop here and check out the rest of what the Bluegrass world has to offer!
I go way (way) back. Always thought Patsy Cline was the best, Crystal Gayle #2. This gal blows me away....pure and effortless.. and this song... good gracious!! Union Station is perfect compliment to her singing.... but on the other hand I'd listen to her with NO instrumentals.
Watched it again. You can sorta see Dan singing. But then at 2:40, you can also see mr bales singing. Just seems kinda high. But hey, they are awesome.
This is probably my least favorite type of music and this is one of my favorite songs...talk about confusing me into loving something I had no intention of falling in love with...sounds like marriage.
71 year old man brought to tears by this
My favorite song....Dan tyminski is a beast to sing harmony with her.....they all are
It's so nice to read comments, and not have a bunch of haters, just people who enjoy a beautiful song!!!

One of the most beautiful songs ever and they make it their own. I put this on constant repeat.
Allison Krauss is my all time favorite female singer ever to live. I melt when watching her every time.
This Girl is an Angel..........almost crashed my car the 1st time I heard this tune!
this is my favorite Jerry Douglas solo of all time. maybe my favorite dobro solo of all time.
Amazing… bell clear voice.
this is what an angel sounds like when she sings
Okay but how is her voice always perfect

I couldn't have said it better.......these folks are by the very definition, "Consummate Musicians"
Scorpia161 PERFECT PITCH!!!
She also doesn't strain when she sings. Very important.
It's called talent
OH MY..... THIS SONG GETS ME EVERYTIME

Great band, superceded by your beautiful voice. Brings me to tears. Thank you so much.
I saw AKUS live in Cardiff late 90,s. I really love this band...her voice is angelic, I fall into her eyes..top shelf musicians..fabulous.❤️🙏🎼❤️🙏🎼
WOW, Incredible Girl! Thank you so so much for your music!
I love your music! Your harmony is perfection and your voice is so gorgeous. I have been a fan for decades now.
Every time she gently scoops up to the note on "bird," I'm done for.
As a first year vocal student, I can proudly inform you that the "scoop" is called a "diphthong" and Ms. Krauss has THE BEST diphthong in the game!
OUTSTANDING! Your voice drags the tears right out of my eyes
Simply Perfection indeed
Simply Perfection.....
Chills

Kenneth This is one of the best UA-cam music comments I've ever seen. Perfectly stated.
Kenneth, I have to tell you, but after all these years they still sound phenomenal. I don't see that changing, even in 20 more
@Alison Krauss Yes, definitely.
That last part is purely awesome and obviously someone there agreed with me. Funny how sometimes when you listen to live music you hear the audience sing along. When Alison sings, it's mostly silence.
Angel!!! beyond perfect, if that is possible, what a voice!!!!
@Alison Krauss you sure can! Honor away!
Alison's voice is so beautiful. I listen to its angelic sound, and it soothes my soul. 😊

Another good one!
The live version has a feeling that the studio does not have. I still love it though
Beautiful Harmony!
Its so beautiful !

I just love this song .maybe .
Spectacular! ❤
@pappyschmears That's because beauty has no genre. This song, and her voice, are beautiful.

Good call, Google - you nailed it.

LOVE
Maybe I can listen to this song just once this time.
Nope.
Me neither, as I watch every different "Maybe" live version these masters execute with clinical precision. So good.
A duet with Ray Lamontagne would be magic. ❤️
Awesome sauce
dayum gurl...
@michaelpalmisano
This is the top of the music heap

Union station band they are great . 😀👍
If ya find an angel ta sing for ya, she'd be my choice
@wankatronic He definitely killed it
Who is singing backup at 1:00-1:30?.... Probably recorded a backing track to put on the DVD after it was filmed.
Dan is singing. He is just pulling away from a hot mic.
Green Eyed Lady Alison.
This song would Put hair on an egg
His harmonies tho
