    Matt here from Mule (the steel guitar guy above). Thanks to Anderton's for stopping by the Luthier Village as we affectionately called it. After I recovered from the NAMMsanity today I weighed the blue beauty Mulecaster above and a standard telecaster - 8 for the standard we have and 8.5 for the steel one. NAMM will tire even the strongest of men!

    So happy you took time out to share some of the indie/ boutique builders’ work. As a small family owned and operated guitar company, we appreciate the visibility you create for the other underdogs.
    Cheers!

    This was my favorite namm video from you guys this year. It's crazy how many really small companies there are that making amazing looking gear. Not everyone can blowup like the Chapman's have. Nice to see you gents give the little guys some love.

    My fav part of their coverage is always looking at the Boutique guitars..so awesome to see people love guitars and basses and make such great art. I'd buy them if I had the money. Thank you lads for the coverage.

      Yeah man, I agree.
      His behavior is inappropriate here.
      I think many of the builders were offended by his flippant approach to their incredibly hard work.
      I like the caption but maybe he needs to stay in the hotel room next year.

    I don't understand why (some) people thought this video was disrespectful. Andertons don't sell these products - but they are showing them anyway for your entertainment. The owners of these stands will have (probably) 50,000+ views of their products (but then I am overly blunt say-what-you-think also)

    I can see where someone might say or see where Lee is being "rude" but the fact of the matter is that both Lee and Pete are trying to get through as many stands/ guitars as possible. Pete even says that at the first table. Neither of them were being rude. People were just trying to talk to them about every little detail about their company. And they simply didn't have time to chat like that.

  • @flexprog3374
    @flexprog3374 6 років тому +5

    I don't think the captain was blunt. He just reviews the guitars very quickly and obviously doesn't have very much to say apart from a description and his personal opinion. You may not like his opinions, but just take them as opinions. On the other hand, he actually gives everything some praise and coverage, and that is good for the builders.

    To any body who thinks I am discourteous to anyone during this video, then I apologise. Despite the fact that the boutique guitars section at Namm is full of guitars that Andertons are almost certainly never going stock, I enjoy taking a little time out to wander around the stand & show off what the world of guitar making has to offer outside of the mainstream brands. In order to keep the video under 30 mins, we only had 1-2 minutes per brand. There wasn't time to interview every builder or get the low down on exactly how they're built. It's really just a visual run down of the stand. Art (& in this I include both making music & making musical instruments) is a subjective thing. There is no such thing as the best or worst - only what you like & what you don't. I don't believe I made any negative comments regarding the skill or ability of any of the luthiers displaying their guitars. My comments on which styles I liked & which I didn't are only my opinions & should be taken for what they are - the personal preferences of one individual. If I crossed the "don't be a dick" line at any time, then that's not cool & wasn't what I was trying to do. Good luck to everyone on the Boutique stand - I hope they see some benefit from the coverage we gave them.

    • @kj677
      @kj677 6 років тому +1

      CaptAnderton fair enough Lee, can't wait for you to express your dislike for one of your own Chapman models in a video. Doubt that will happen though. To each their own and thanks for the coverage, I enjoyed most of it.

    Peter Malinoski’s guitars and basses are INCREDIBLE. Some really smart woodworking in those that other builders just don’t do or don’t think of cos they don’t have Pete’s background. Hope ya read this, Pete! Still so thankful I was able to check out that Saga bass all those moons ago!

  • @letmeooze

    I can see the discomfort and frustration on both some of the builders and the other people at the booths as Andertons just plows through everyone at NAMM.

    • @rosshorne4769
      @rosshorne4769 6 років тому +6

      Nolan G I think it’s fear when lee picks up a 10 or 20 thousand dollar guitar that’s already been sold

    • @letmeooze
      @letmeooze 6 років тому +4

      I think it's more frustration with the fact the Andertons just moves into spaces and touches things very assertively and sometimes inconsideratly where previously a possibly important conversation was being had or an item was a *Do Not Touch*. They seem to take the "ask for forgiveness later" approach. I can appreciate that they want the best coverage, but it causes issues with my deeply ingrained sense of manner-based spacial awareness. I can't stand when myself or others are in the way or aggressively push through people without some sort of strong justification. It might just be a 'me' thing.

      He was picking up the guitars to show off the backs. I don't understand what is wrong with that. A guitar is meant to be played, any guitar not meant to be handled is a pretty useless thing.

  • @davidtomkins4242

    These guitars are far more interesting than boring fenders ec, please spend more time and show more respect to the builders than this quick novelty video. This is where the originality and innovation in the guitar world is. Not for sale in Andertons? Well, you know who can change that.....

    • @MoltenNut

      0TheDudeHAHAHA0 only thing is none of these other companies or luthiers would ever go on social media and say that. I think that's why people are finding Chappers (as he's given negative reviews of his competitors before) and the Captain a little classless when it comes to their treatment of other builders. Anywho, takes all kinds to make a world I guess. Lol

    Lee, you missed a trick by not spending more time with the GNG guitars, Guilio is an amazing luthier. Clearly they look amazing but they have something very special when played, - he allowed my son to play one his guitars at a recent UK show and he was blown away with how versatile it was, he went from metal to jazz tone, - Guilio makes the pickups as well.

      His livelihood is entirely dependent upon perpetuating the big brand worship. Anderton's can't offer the kind of individual attention and low volume required to sell these things-- they're built on large volume, mass produced factory work. It's not really any wonder why he isn't versed in the small luthier world.

    I find it 'funny' that so many people in the comments section are willing to give their personal opinion condemning Lee for giving his personal opinion about something...I'd call it irony, but it's straight hypocrisy. I have been watching Anderton's videos long enough to know Lee would never intentionally insult someone publicly whether representing himself or Andertons Music Co. And remember, they didn't have to visit the boutique stand at all. These guitar makers got free advertising from this video, and that's good. The viewers will make up their own minds about which guitars they liked.

    That's cool that there are some guys from Michigan. I'm from a city in Michigan about half an hour away from where Mule Resophonic is from. I moved away in 2011 though. I wish I could have stayed so I could go visit the place

    You would think Lee would take notice of outside the box design ideas. Seems like a poshest attitude towards others. Just because you’re not going to stock the guitar in your store doesn’t mean you have to treat others like they are beneath you. Sad to see Lee act like that or maybe that’s how he really is? Nose up ?

    Captain is starting to act and sound like an American. Or perhaps it's the booze.
