I was really hoping Ibanez would go in that direction with the EHB series but they kinda did the opposite of that lol I'm sure making 37" scale basses is a challenge but hopefully in the next few years we get something like that from them.
@@petougao yeah the short scale thing. I don't hate the idea but I don't think it was a good move to go short before going long. In theory, a short-multiscale 5 string is kind of cool and makes sense, but I just would rather have seen a 37" first.
I got this same bass and couldn’t agree more. So pleased with everything about it. Color finish, playability, sound versatility etc. Just a monster. Nice playing and review.
Woooo! Love the fishman guts that they put on these! The voicing switch combined with the push/pull single coil mode makes any bass with the fishies SO FLEXIBLE! They're a B!TCH to install (looots of soldering- 32 individual solder points if I remember correctly), but the end result is second to none. Hoping to do another Fishman project in the future! Great vid dude!
I love this bass. Couldn't afford it yet, but I did get a Legend Standard 5 and I have to say Spector is a powerhouse in general. All the good things I have heard about spectors hold 100% true.
I'm a Spector fan. Funny story I actually rented a house from Stu about YIKES 20 years ago. I got to play some really cool basses but wasn't really into music anymore at the time... Fast forward 15ish years I fell back in love with playing/recording music and well..... I wish I still had that connection to Stu...Hell of a nice guy....Oh and i do own a couple Spectors now.....
I’ve owned all three at one point or another and this Spector is in my opinion the most versatile. Dingwalls are amazing but they are amazing at being that dingwall tone. Just my 2 cents. Also price wise this has dingwall beat by a significant amount
@@rcjd7834 the Ltd b1005ms was really nice too. I loved the Nordstrand pickups and preamp for sure. Their were just a few small cons for me. Out of the 3 the Ltd had the most noticeable neck dive, the neck joint was rather beefy, and due to the headstock design it will not fit in any case but the one that specifically made for it and when I owned it the case was constantly out of stock. All and all I still loved that bass, gigged with it regularly for over a year and never had any problems with the functionality. Honestly all three are really good quality instruments just for me the Spector has been the best overall.
@@nickherst1317 based on the ish guitars shootout between this, the Dingwall and the Ibanez EHB-1505MS this seemed to have quite a bit of neck dive compared to the other two. I'm shopping so I'd really like more opinions on this.
@@johangericke1492 a good quality strap was all it took for me for it to go away but the other option is to get the Gotoh lightweight tuners and replace the stock ones. Even if you do that the price tag still comes in quite a bit lower than a dingwall

As an owner of a Dingwall NG2, I'd have to admit that if I was to do it all over again I'd be really conflicted between this or the Dingwall . I slightly prefer the tone of the Dingwall pickups but have a huge soft spot for wenge necks/fretboards (not an option for non-Canadian Dingwalls at the moment sadly). This is great because I want more and more options for multiscale basses on the market to give as many options as possible to those looking for that 37inch scale length. I second his suggestion, if you haven't tried a multiscale bass, give it a whirl. It's probably not for absolutely everyone, but it is worth a shot.
Hard to find dealers for some of these products in Australia. Nearest is 14 hours drive away. The only way to get a good understanding of the sound is to use a channel like yours with professional sound quality to guage the levels. Keep going man.
I got this same model a month or two back and it’s replaced every other bass I own in the studio and at rehearsal. When live shows pick back up I’ll be ordering the other super faded black finish as well to round out my live rig

As far as the Fluence they are a traditional battery setup in this bass although I’m sure it wouldn’t be to difficult to upgrade to the battery pack

Saw a thread on a forum where people were saying the B string has low output because the Fishman pickups aren’t wide enough to reach under the string on the side that’s angled away from the string. Someone used magnetic paper to test it and it didn’t reach fully. They said they really noticed when they played with their band, but not so much in their practice room. I don’t say this as a hater, I say it as someone who is really interested in this bass but kind of worried about this issue.
That's the first I've heard of this issue. As sweet as this bass looks, I think I would wait a year or so for all the issues to be known as it will take a hell of a bass to dethrone the NG2 in this price bracket.
There is an over 20 page thread on TBASS with correspondence back and forth with Spector. The purchaser said Spectors solution was too adjust the strings closer together. I have a Euro 4 and looking for a 5 string and would like to hear more from Spector about these pickups being too narrow.
@@jayfoghino5392 g magnets are longer. Spector now puts the 6 string fishman pickups on the 5 string Dimension to alleviate this issue. I just ordered one. Imagine I'll switch to emg and a tone capsule if I like the bass.
For 100% studio recording purposes, do you prefer the fishman fluence electronics or the Nordstrand Big Singles you get in others ? I have a hunch the singles are simpler to manage, but that they also may be kinda hot and noisy? Thanks !
Having never played one in person, I'm still not sure if I'm in love with Fishman Fluence pick ups. Every demo I hear they just don't seem to have any sort of growl to them.... specifically not the Spector growl. After all the demos I'm left wanting more. Am I being overly critical because I want to love this bass so much and nervous to pull the trigger? Or is there a lack of punch your are giving up from the Fishmans?
I agree with you Daniel, they have a sort of artificial sound to them. As if the bass was programmed and not played. That being said I still think they sound great.
@@57precision I feel ya, that's kind of how I feel they sound as well. But I have a Stingray that I just love running basically flat eq on the bass and flat eq on the amp, and I generally like it for most tone I'm after. I want some more of that crunch/punch/clank that I think Spectors are known for. Maybe I just need to wait for them to make more multi-scale bases with different pick ups. Either that or play one live and really hear these things for themselves. Maybe the true sound just doesn't come through on youtube reviews/demos.
you need to listen to Nathan Navarro on you tube he gets like 21 different sounds out of this bass ! i push mine through a genzbenz shuttle max 900 1x15 2x8’s 6x7’s and 4x5’s it’s fukin sick a punch in the face and chest of total tonal exstacy

I have listened to Nate's video, and I love the intro riff he does but I lose it when he goes through all the different options. Basically, I've gotten over it and really just want the dang bass :)

Nate Navarro has a smoking demo of this, and I think at one point he even goes to low E. Drop G is no problem at all. If you have a speaker that can actually cope.

I kept watching this video over and over until I clicked purchase on AMS. It arrived today, a four string, and it is absolutely beautiful. Feels great and sounds awesome.
So, stupid question... with the matte finish, is there still a protective clear coat over the wood? I always assumed that gloss finishes were more durable due to there being that extra layer of sealant between the painted wood and the player, and that matte finishes were just painted wood with some nice sanding. Will this finish hold up to the usual wear and tear like a gloss finish would?
This bass has such a mid-scooped tone. I imagine it works really well for metal, but maybe not some other genres. Personally, I like more midrange presence. But this definitely has a modern tone.

I tried both recently fully expecting to buy the Ethos and reject the Dimension, based on what I have heard via UA-cam. The Ethos was a disappointment and the Dimension surprisingly good. I do not like the Aguilar sound on the Ethos, but many people do. I prefer the rounder deeper tone of the Dimension. I ended up buying a Spector Euro, but expect that I'll get the Dimension in due course. If you want brightness go for the Ethos or RST, but for deeper tones the Dimension.
Just bought one and its on it's way. Think I'll break it in by learning Re: Re: because some Asian Kung Fu Generation was the last thing I expected to hear on a video about one of these

Dude, I'm subbed to your channel cuz I like your playing, and I think you demo gear well. But seriously, your dialogue is sounding less and less like a review, and more and more like an advert. I'd expect to find a review this balanced like, maybe on Spector's channel. Lol. Also, your transparency statement at the start of the video is starting to sound like a teenager who got caught stealing from his mums purse. You looked so uncomfortable. "Like, seriously guys, I'm just a bass player making videos!.." Anyway, in terms of constructive criticism, if at this point, you're basically just a freelance demo player advertising products rather than a reviewer, you should just be straight with your viewers that it is what it is. On the other hand, if you do still have total editorial control, and you can say what you want about products you feature even when they're paying you (rather than being given talking points, and implicitly or explicitly discouraged from pointing out flaws) you should try to give a bit more balance. I rarely see you say anything negative about products any more, let alone give an overall negative review. Surely even if you genuinely do love everything you're paid to review, it must always possible, and only fair to your viewers, to point out the odd minor thing which could be improved?
Finally a proper Dingwall competitor. We need 37" multiscale basses to be produced by more brands.

Bought one of these and sold my Dingwall. The Fishman Fluence system pushed me over the edge.

Those Fishmans look very interesting, looking at the possibilities of those different 'voices'. Looks and sounds like an incredibly versatile bass!
They're pretty awesome. I have the same setup as the Spector in a 5 string Ibanez Mikro bass. It is hilariously good.

Yeah, the neckdive is pretty bad apparently. Plan on swapping the tuners with Hipshot Ultralites or Gotoh Resolites
Normally I hate that version of their 5 string headstock but it works here.

That bass will pair well with a Baritone guitar. gosh with a 37" scale, I'm sure it can do Drop G, or Drop F.

My guitar player turned bassist (or so he thinks) got one of these and I got to play it last night . Plays nice but just didn’t vibe like the dingwall IMO

It sounds like a cheap Active Ibanez.
It looks nice but honestly doesn’t have that Spector tone to me... and compared to Dingwall.. the Dingwall neck feels alot nicer.. it’s a nice bass don’t get me wrong... I just prefer Dingwall for multi scale.. I prefer Spector euro when it comes to Spector

Dude, I'm subbed to your channel cuz I like your playing, and I think you demo gear well.
But seriously, your dialogue is sounding less and less like a review, and more and more like an advert. I'd expect to find a review this balanced like, maybe on Spector's channel. Lol.
Also, your transparency statement at the start of the video is starting to sound like a teenager who got caught stealing from his mums purse. You looked so uncomfortable. "Like, seriously guys, I'm just a bass player making videos!.."
Anyway, in terms of constructive criticism, if at this point, you're basically just a freelance demo player advertising products rather than a reviewer, you should just be straight with your viewers that it is what it is. On the other hand, if you do still have total editorial control, and you can say what you want about products you feature even when they're paying you (rather than being given talking points, and implicitly or explicitly discouraged from pointing out flaws) you should try to give a bit more balance. I rarely see you say anything negative about products any more, let alone give an overall negative review.
Surely even if you genuinely do love everything you're paid to review, it must always possible, and only fair to your viewers, to point out the odd minor thing which could be improved?
Every time I see a picture or video of this specific color scheme, it looks different. Some look awful while yours looks amazing.
