  • We met Derek at Nassau Parole Division, and BOY did he have a story to tell...
What are your thoughts on parole? Do POs treat their parolees fairly and with respect? Or do they just show up for the paycheck?
Let us know in the comments below and show Derek some love!

How to end it get Red off Po

Not sure exactly of the process of switching POs, but I can't imagine it ending well. Ill assume they don't allow it much. If someone does request to switch their PO and it doesn't happen, then you just have a pissed of PO who's now seeking revenge!

I'm a little wary of the story the parolee is telling. Owning inherited firearms is not a crime. Something here is a little off.

A very valid and understandable point you bring up... Of course we can only go off of the information given to us in the 15 minute interview we had, but there are many details of the case not known. From what we gathered, it was a probate situation where the firearms were inherited and (possibly) not yet "registered", but it could be more or less... It's possible this could have been a long fought battle with the right attorney, but he was scared into a plea deal and settled for "attempted" possession. NY government despises firearm owners, so it doesn't surprise us this happened. But we definitely want to here more of Derek's story, so we invited him to our upcoming podcast sessions. Follow and subscribe to stay updated on the story!

You can't get a security license in NYS if you're felon let alone actively on parole 😂😂😂. Clearly there's more to this guys story he's not sharing. I'd bet my life savings there a HUGE part he's leaving out. Clearly this guy has a few screws loose. He said he just got out a month ago and his PO even knows he's nuts already so he must have documented mental health problems on file I'm assuming. The PO was probably doing you a favor. 😂

Not sure exactly where you're getting your information from, but you absolutely CAN get a NYS security license with a misdemeanor/felony conviction. NYS explicitly states the person must "have not been convicted of a serious offense". From what we've gathered, the person's background must be free from felony convictions and crimes involving moral turpitude as well as any other criminal offenses that are specifically referenced in state licensing law.
Now, whether "attempted" possession of a firearm falls under that list I'm not too sure. When it comes to being an armed security guard, we'd assume the requirements would be MUCH more strict. But in this gentleman's case he was never an armed guard and already held a security guard license.
That being said, if they allow people with a criminal record (certain crimes) to hold a NYS security license, being on parole shouldn't make a difference, especially if you have 1 single conviction in your entire life and the company you previously worked for is willing to take you back with open arms.
On another note, to make the claim that "clearly" this gentleman has screws loose or has mental health problems is an extremely ignorant thing to say. Of course we can only go off of the information given in a short interview with him, but based off the conversation I would argue against your claim. We give everyone the benefit of the doubt. If this guy seems to be crazy or mentally disabled, I belong in a mental institution.
