Nice work man. Just bought a property that my sister and daughters live in, and I'm building an apartment in my shop for myself. Place is amazing. Sealing the concrete then building the walls. Bathroom is there, just adding a shower and hot water heater, then turning the already built office into a kitchen. My bedroom will be roughly 17x12. I did have a good bit of demo work considering it's a shop in a rural area...small woodland critters, with a bad case of the shits. What a mess that was...legit, full face plexy gas mask, hooded cover and shit kickers that went to my knees. It was bad in the beginning.
Wow job well done! This is impressive! Thank you for documenting this entire process. I love it & will likely use a lot of your ideas to convert my third garage space. Again, outstanding as this was utterly impressive!
Very cool. I've been looking for something just like this. This is much closer to what I would want to do, and you've helped make it look so clear for the steps. Much appreciated.
It made it easy and my exchange student loved it. My son loved it so much when I redid his room in our new house he wanted all the walls like this...lol.
Excellent job man. I'm going to do this for my wife as well, only less space and will have to make it lower for clearance of the garage door. Not a problem, just intimidated by the slight slope that you mentioned. Anyway, great vid!
I was thinking about making part of it short to go under the door and make that area a closet. That way you get the space, but wouldn't notice it very much being a closet. The slope isn't bad... you just have to custom cut each stud on the one wall. Thanks for watching!
Great 👍 job! You can get a storage box 📦 the same length to that desk you build with cushion on top to sit as bench and to storage her stuff and use ceiling space if possible to add shelves and if have under bed space buy those storage thinggy that you push under bed for more storage to put her stuff... perhaps you did that already! 👋

think you could post the full material list in the description in a comment? it would be very much appreciated! I plan on building the same exact idea in my garage, so yeah, a material list would be great so i know and also so i can go ahead and price everything first. thanks for your time brother!
Thanks.... that's why I like to make videos. Help someone out and get them better at doing DIY type of stuff. I also learn along the way, so it works both ways.
Family members really need an extra bedroom, so I'm researching how to do something low budget. Can you tell me approximately what you spent on materials? Did you create a material list that you can share? Thank you! It turned out beautifully!!!
I didn't do a materials list. Basically you need to measure your walls length (lets say you have 2x 10' walls). So you'll need 4x 10' boards for the top and bottom plate, and divide 10' by 16" = 7.5 (each wall) So you'll need 16 boards to make walls (studs). For each door or window in the new wall add 2 or 3 studs to make the opening and header for the top. Being you have 20' of wall you'll need 5x pieces of plywood for the outside and 5x paneling for the inside at a minimum. Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know.
Simple is usually best. This is similar to my garage project coming up for my utility room. I already have water pipes. I just want my WD enclosed in a nice room. I have a huge attached garage. 22’x34’.
I love it! Could you give me an approximate cost of what you did, please? Just a ballpark, and I understand that there could be + or - a LOT depending on all that it depends on! Thanks.
Materials was around $600 I think, but I didn't have to do any electrical or HVAC work. It was basically 2 insulated walls, rug I cut for the floors, (wood floors was left over from another house) and I already had all the tools.
Favorite part... The rustic wooden walls. I am gonna need to convert my garage to two rooms for my twins to have since they're getting older and they want privacy. I think I can make 2 8X16's or 8X14's... gotta measure when I get home.
This may have been asked already but there’s hundreds of comments. Do you have a complete list of materials how many lengths of timber and at what length? This is a great project one I’m looking to do almost exactly the same. Many thanks.
turned out nice. would be great if u add list of materials (woodboard, insulation, 17:23 bench) & furnishing (lampstand, lamp over the door, etc) and what is the 17:23 drape on the right was supposed to do?
I could add a list, but the list will never be the same for anyone as the sizes will be different. The bench is just a countertop I had laying around that you can buy at Lowes/Home depot. All the decor came from Marshalls or Ross. The drape on the right is the closet "Door". She didn't need much room and worked out perfect for her.
@@watsonst04 that is a good price.I hope I can get mine done here in Australia,I know itl cost more though thank you for all the ideas and how to do it.God bless

Mama said annunciate your words better. And then you have the loud music come on after I had my speakers all the way up to hear you.. lol. Thank you for sharing the video very informative and helpful thank you sir my bearded brother from another mother.
I wish the walls I needed to build weren’t constrained to specific measurements. But I’ll definitely be trying to make it as simple as possible. Sadly one wall is just over 8 feet wide but there will be door in it so hopefully I can place in such a way to make it easier
Just lay the studs out 16" on center. With the door there you should be able to use a whole piece up to the door then just cut the over hang off. Then just use pieces around the top and other side of the door. The main thing is the 16" on center as the plywood will break even on it. Also if you needed you can run the plywood vertical if needed, but not as strong horizontal as it catches more studs on the wall. If it something like this (small, not a load bearing wall, etc) it's not big of a deal really. Good luck with your project.
This is awesome! I am planning on building a room myself in my garage. However, I noticed you did not have any heating or cooling (other than a fan I believe). I was raised in Texas and I know how hot the summers get there, just like here in Oklahoma. I intend on putting in some kind of A/C unit and electric heater, haven't figured out how just yet. I am also going to put in a subfloor with air channels because my garage floor condensates in high humidity and I don't want any chance of mold growing. Good job and thanks for the ideas!
I used portable unit for this room (remember I built this as a temporary room for my exchange student). Long term I would just put a window unit in the wall to climate control it. Most slabs won't swear if they place plastic down before they poured concrete. I made sure they did that.
Love the video! You gave me the confidence to start this project in my garage! I was wondering how you did the framing. Did you lay it all on the ground attach it then stand it up? Thank you!
Great video, very inspiring! Just curious about a few things: Would there be any reason to add a subfloor for more insulation? Did you frame out and insulate the other walls too? How come you came into the room a bit on the left side of the desk? My wife and I just bought a house with a big 2 car garage and I think I’ll do something like what you’ve done here. Big thanks for the video!
Here in Texas we don't normally add a subfloor when you have concrete floors. When my house was built I made them insulate the outside walls as well to help regulate the garage (I spend a lot of time out there). The two walls that was already there are outside walls that where built when the house was built; therefore I only had to add the 2 walls. The area where the desk, was a feature of the house where the window area "popped out" giving a architectural look on the outside. Thanks for watching!!
It was a temporary room for my exchange student. I asked her how much closet space she needed... she said her family doesn't hang clothes very much and just needed a dresser (I have shelves under the bed and at the foot of the bed). I basically only added the closet as my counter top didn't go from wall to wall, so it was just something I added to fill the gap.
Best video I've found so far that is really close to what I'm planning with our garage this year. I'll be using a lot of technique from this. What do you have for heating/cooling in this space though? I assume the garage isn't connected the home HVAC.
Thanks, yes its separate from the home HVAC. I had plans to add window unit into the wall I built (this way the window wouldn't be blocked), but during this time frame i only needed heat so i used a small space heater. This was only a temporary room, but if I was gonna do long term I would do a mini split system.
This is awesome! Exactly what I want to do with my large garage. Unfortunately I have no building experience and trying to get tradesmen to turn up is a nightmare! Yours looks fabulous - is there a bathroom in there?
Thanks. Its pretty basic and there was no electrical/plumbing or anything that required a professional really. There is no bathroom in the room but the normal garage door is right next to it where one is located.
Thanks!!! My wife though I was crazy when I told her what I was going todo.... after it was done she was like "We should have done this a long time ago!!"....lol
So, if you had to cut all your studs because of a slightly sloping floor, wouldn’t you encounter the same problem with the plywood?...Laying the plywood on a strip of wood that is on that same sloping floor? Wouldn’t your plywood be out of level/plumb?
People that can build like that are artists and don’t get enough credit. The room looks awesome!
Thanks!

Just put in a minisplit.
@@PremiumFuelOnly my setup was a temporary setup (4 months) or yes I would have installed a mini in there for sure.
Love the video! You gave me the confidence to start this project in my garage! I was wondering how you did the framing. Did you lay it all on the ground attach it then stand it up? Thank you!
Great job, in such a short time.
Thanks!
Not bad that’s pretty cool u really can’t run the bug in the garage because of the fumes.
But I like it
Thanks.... the bus always was pushed into the garage.
@@watsonst04 I like your idea 👍
❤ really easy for you a great job. But you know what you're doing okay?
Beautiful work!😊
Thank you! 😊
Dude🗣‼️ You rock‼️‼️‼️👍🏾
Thanks!
How do you keep it temperature controlled? Just a ac and heater or is it more complicated than that
It has a roof top AC/heater, just a like a normal camper.
I like to see you build the room.Great job.I wish to have one but women can do nothing !!😌.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you for video.
Came out really nice
Thanks! She loved it
Do you need a permit to build a room with no electrical in a garage?
Dressers? Closet? Love it. But super small.
Looks great. Good job.
Thanks!
nice..thank you for sharing because i will be doing the same and i will use your video for guidance...cool 👍👍
What is that stuff called that you put on the walls? or can you send links?
Bead board siding... got it at Lowes
This is beautiful! Great job
Thanks!!! My wife though I was crazy when I told her what I was going todo.... after it was done she was like "We should have done this a long time ago!!"....lol
What about the floor though? Every garage floor slops to the front. Why didn't you build a raised floor to counter the slop?
This is amazing and I love it!!
hi what is the name of the wood panel (the finish look) where can I buy it?
Not sure if the name. It's available at Lowes.
This is amazing!! Totally doing this!
Thanks!
Great job love the room.
Thanks!
What did you do for heat and A/C ?
@watsongarage what about ceiling insulation? Thanks
The ceiling was already insulated when I got it.
What about air conditioner
How did you solve that?
I added a small portable AC....I didn't want a window unit due to being on the front of the house. Its a small room so it did well
Did you lag bolt the bottom boards to the garage floor? Do you think it's necessary?
I didn't place anything under them except silicone. Being this was a temporary room I didn't want to damage my garage floor.
So, if you had to cut all your studs because of a slightly sloping floor, wouldn’t you encounter the same problem with the plywood?...Laying the plywood on a strip of wood that is on that same sloping floor? Wouldn’t your plywood be out of level/plumb?
The slope isn't very much at all. The trim covers all the gaps if any.
@@watsonst04 excellent 👍
