Yeah, that's the one I followed for the Vista fix.

The reason you were not able to install VMware tools, is because your VM was set as Windows Xp and VMware was inserting Tools for Windows Xp

Well, I did try out VMWare tools with different OS settings, but none of that seemed to do anything. Not sure why.
