To be honest, we can learn if we want. No one is looking at castes anywhere. It's an art and isn't restricted to specific persons.
No one sees all this these days. It's shastriya sangeet. Anyone who has interest and who reveres it can learn. You can learn it whether carnatic or Hindustani classical music. Your caste or religion doesn't matter here. See for example Shri Yesudas ji, Ustad Bade ghulam Ali Khan ji who's also known as the tansen of 20th century or baiju bawra ji who was a contemporary to tansen ji. Their caste or religious background didn't stop them from becoming one of the most revered and legendary masters of Indian classical music.
