Thanks for sharing this! It's amazing how the tugs are able to coordinate and smoothly maneuver such a large ship into position so quickly. That must take years and years of apprentice training followed by more years of on-the-job experience on the part of the crews and their captains. It's truly a sight to behold!
My grandfather was a tug captain in NYC harbor. I got the chance to be on the brife when they pushed a cruise ship into the east river. It's an art, like ballet, but those tugboat men have a good sense of humor. Excellent food too.
Looking at all the rotten metal from subsequent dry dock videos it scares me to watch these now. So glad she made it to dry dock and is being repaired.
@@noodengr3three825 Thanks for sharing! My dad who passed in 2017 at age 92 served in WW2 on the USS Louisville CA 28 and was hit (3) times by kamikaze in the pacific with (52) sailors and Rear Admiral Theodore Chandler buried at sea. Main gun turret found in 2015 in Nevada Desert as a test detector. Toured USS Texas with my dad, wife, and son on my back in 1996 too and always wanting to tour a ship with a tall tripod like USS Louisville had. Take care and I am sure Texas will look great again.
This was the flag ship in the battle of D-Day. When it first launched it was the Biggest ship in the world. It was later upgraded and worked all over Europe and then the Pacific. What a ship and thank heaven and the good folks that saved her from the deep six.
Wow just look at that amazing ship. Just incredible, we have Hms Belfast in Britain and Nelson`s Hms Victory which is something else, but there`s something about a historic 20th century Battleship that`s served in two world wars and I doff my cap to all involved and their efforts..
And it didn't sink along the way... Considering how much it is supposedly leaking, that's a testament to the reliability and capability of the pumps they have been using to keep it from flooding... Considering how shallow the bay is and the ship channel though, even if it had "sunk", it would have just been resting on the bottom with quite a bit of it still visible...
Location after work is completed is still to be determined. They are taking proposals from Galveston, Corpus Christi and Beaumont. Per their website at BattleshipTexas.org repairs include: "Complete repair or replacement of the hull from four feet above the waterline down to the bottom of the ship. Additional funds are being raised to complete as much additional work as possible while the ship is in dry dock, including but not limited to replacement of the ship’s wooden deck, and fresh paint inside and out" Her keel was laid in Newport News, Virginia in 1911.
I gald to see the old girl getting the attention. She. Needed for. Years the first time I seen her is with my. Dad and mom. Way back. In the 1970s and she was needing TLC. Way back. Then and I know it just. Got worse. Since. Then. If. She would. Have gotten dry docked back then she would not be that. Bad now
@@ptsmith4660 It's a Texas thing I guess. I believe the funds are coming from the Texas taxpayers, via a vote by the legislature there. I don't live in Texas, so it's not my money being spent. Living in a free country (partly due to the service of this battleship and others), I can donate to the cause if I so choose. If you are a Texas resident, take it up with them. I'm an optimist. I believe she will look beautiful when she is done. It is also providing jobs, so I consider it a win-win!
Just knowing they can finally shut the pumps off for the first time in 17 years is quite a relief.
It's nice to see the Grand old lady going in for necessary repairs ! "Eight bells & all's well" 😀🍺👍
brings a tear to my eye thank you to everyone that donated .

Out of all the videos that I've watched of the moving of the USS Texas this is the best one thanks guys!

Wow! Nice footage thanks for sharing! We visited Battleship USS Texas in late 1980"s and she is something to see. Take care!
I toured her in the late 90s. Yes amazing

Yay boat! 😎
State of texas has never seen a ship heavier with this length
I wish that would get one of the old battle wagons back to operating order and sail her around on her own power
please take care of our grand Lady Texas
please take note, the 48 Star Flags flying.
I assume plans still exist as to placement of keel blocks in drydock?
the great old battleship is moving again :D
Great ship. When was the keel laid? What's being repaired and where's she going when done?

Its a shame Britain didn't keep any of its Dreadnoughts even the WW2 upgraded Queen Elizabeth class like Warspite would have been great.
Poms weren't the best for historical perspective. Pity - you had plenty of magnificence that could have been on display.
Damn ole girl’s a little rusty
Is it true what I've been told, that the Battleship Texas was built with one forward gear and three reverse ranges, since Texans like being backward?
You Californians need to stop moving into Texas if it's so backward, right? lol
What a shame they couldn't save the SS America (USS West Point , AP23)
scrap is high right now...
Sounds like you are too……..CNN called and said to get back over there.
