  • The transition from late summer into fall is fantastic in Alaska. Salmon spawning, wildlife feasting, hillsides prolific with wild berries and our first summer honey harvest from the bees gives us great reason to be grateful to live in such an incredible place.
    We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀

    Back when I watched TV, there were 10 episodes of a favourite series, each lasting half an hour. Then that series would be gone for 8 months to make another 10 episodes. You guys make a show, longer than half an hour, with better editing and more interesting content every five days.... without fail. You are incredible! Thank you so much.

    From a fellow beekeeper in Washington State… Great job! Keep at it and you will be rewarded more and more each year! Your bees look healthy and happy. One reason to primarily harvest only capped honey is that bees are pros at regulating moisture content. Too much moisture and you run the risk of spoilage. Too little and the honey crystallizes. Harvesting in-capped you are dealing with an unknown variable which is fine if you plan to use your harvest sooner, but if you are hoping for shelf life, only harvesting capped honey is the way to go. I love that you only used a large mesh strainer. Many keepers want that clear, golden look in their honey, but there is so much benefit to leaving medium to large pollen clusters, especially if you or someone you know suffers from allergies. All in all, you are doing great! I love watching all of your videos, especially those pertaining to fishing! One day I hope to make my way up with my wife and children for some salmon fishing. Thank you for putting these videos out for us to enjoy!!

      from a beekeeper in Connecticut, you don't need to pull the wax paper off the pollen pattie just score it on both sides bees will chew it up.
      you could use the uncapped honey to make mead too, However that takes time to ferment

    Music was hauntingly beautiful, superb choice! Nature in Alaska seems godlike to me, in a really primeval way, it reminds me of something that we all hold in the deeper consciousness of our species, of a simpler, more dangerous time. It's the cycle itself, life and death, spring and winter, rot and birth. It makes me feel connected.

    Great blueberry harvest! Here in NE MN, we usually pick about 10 gallons a year, but not this year, due to our extreme drought. If you haven’t heard yet, a good way to remove leaves from your blueberry pail is to wet a towel and place flat on a piece of plywood that is slanted. Scoop the blueberries onto the wet towel and the berries will roll down while the leaves stick to the towel.

    • @gtfangel
      @gtfangel 3 роки тому +1

      @Myth Tree No laws here, but when a season is good, there are dozens of acres of berries and what we pick is a drop in the bucket in the whole picture of things. This year, we had a drought and very few berries, so most people, including ourselves didn't pick anything, to allow the wildlife to have something to eat. We are aware of wildlife needs.

    I have just finished video number 584. Watching on my lunch break it has taken a little over a year. I am not going to lie, at times I have said to myself watching Eric “Don’t do that!!” and then Eric will say “well that didn’t work”. Your adventures are a joy to watch. Eric, thanks for sharing your new tools (new to me). Some I have purchased for my tool collection. Arielle, your horticultural expertise is remarkable. Please be careful and take care of each other. About five years ago I was taking down a tree with my chainsaw. Made a perfect notch and felling cut, calculated the exact place it would fall. Then as I was walking away to take a break a gust of wind came up and the tree hit me in the back. My first ride in an ambulance to the trauma center. Seven staples in my head and many cuts and scratches. Stay safe my friends.

    Viewing that basket full of blueberry brings back memories of my childhood some 70 years ago. We took our milk pails and headed to the pasture where a coulee was full of juneberry bushes/trees. When the pails were full it was back home, my mother fired up the old cook stove and turn out a fresh juneberry pie. Looked very much like your blueberry treat. Thanks for sharing.

    Yikes your footage is so beautiful! The bear!!!!??? Just wow! The water, the fish, the scenery...all of it just breathtaking. Thank you so much!
    I loved the sound of the first two blueberries falling into the bucket, and then the sound of all of them falling in :) What a perfect spot to pick, too! Bo even has blueberry stain on his muzzle! :) Bandit is such a character

    hahah I just did this yesterday to my bees. Removed honey, added pollen patties and syrup. I have dried honey down to 17% before using fans and having the frames near the wood stove. Your extractor is awesome. I have a really really old hand crank one and a little newer electric one. Once we have our wood heater going steady, we will be extracting ours. It is always exciting getting honey from your bees. A reward for our hard work keeping bees. I am so happy for you guys. Great video.

    These kids are like my bucket list when you're 70 you don't have a bucket list no more. It's too bad we don't have a chat room where we could talk to the other people that's in here cuz theres quite a following. But myself I don't know how to do that on my phone but that's about the only thing that's missing here is a connection with the community, I work with these kids I take breaks with these kids Fall is in 10 days. I am instilling their home life into my home because on a set income a lot of their philosophy and terminology are slowly also becoming a way of my life and a survival for my life which is just absolutely fantastic I just appreciate them so much thanks Jack

    My dad is a bee keeper too and has one of those spinner things. He gets 200lbs of honey a year bc he has a lot of hives. Nothing like fresh honey for allergies and of course the taste! He also builds everything - bee boxes, paints outside according to year made or added etc. he is a retired engineer so he likes to be busy

    This is by far my favorite video that you have made. I've never been to Alaska. The summer is short but so beautiful. You guys work hard for your harvest and have so much healthy food as your reward. Blueberries are my favorite fruit. I only eat them when they are in season. First they come from eastern Texas, North Carolina or other southern states, then they come from Michigan or other more northern states and now they come from Canada. I grew up in Michigan. My grandmother always went to blueberry farms and picked them for us. I currently live in a part of Texas that can't grow them. It's time to eat apples now, the Fall fruit from the northern states south of Canada.
