Hawker Tempest Mk2: 1/32 scale Special Hobby plastic model kit

- A look into the box to see what the “high tech” kit offers.
I mention the indicator pins fitted to Spitfires a short way into the piece. I was of course mistakenly referring to the undercarriage indicators. The flap indicators on Spitfires were near the trailing edge of the wings.
There would appear to be no mechanical flap down indicator on a Tempest, instead it was an electric light indication in the cockpit.
I am sorry for this error which I correct here.

Looks like a very nice kit Zin. I just picked up the Revell 1/32 Tempest V so I was wondering what the Special Hobby Tempest II is like, then this video came along. Perfect. 🙂

New sub here, I’m getting back into the hobby after a 35 year break, there have been a LOT of changes in that time period, lots to learn but I’m excited about it!
Dear Jimmy,
I was where you are around four years ago. I found the same, but it's good because the advances make the results better.
Thanks very much for tuning in and getting in touch too!!
Regards,
Z
Interesting looking kit Z

Dear Mr Ozzy,
Good to hear from you again! As I have looked further into the Tempest I have found a lot to recommend it. The kit itself looks to be very good!

WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE - LORD Z - oops you've upset the Mysterons...
I think that Airworthy Tempest II was Lurking at Dunsfold in a Hangar, I believe the Weekes Tempests are being shipped to the UK for restoration.
Lord J,
I will hope that I escape the grasp of those pesky Mysterons!!
Anyway, I was initially attracted to this by the visit of a member of the G-TEMT team to Weeks’ HQ to examine the Mk2 for the purposes of research. From this I resolved to acquire this kit. I may get a Mk5 to go along with it.
Anywho, thanks for tuning in old chap!
Regards,
Z
Nice looking kit you've got there, Z! Looking forward to when you get around to building it. Btw, I've got to get me a set of those glass files. What make are yours? Cheers, my friend.
Dear Paul,
Thanks! I am greatly taken with this kit - lots of chance to enhance!!
The files are made by a company called “Infini” and there are two sizes each with three grades. They’re rather good!!
Regards,
Z
@@ZinzanModelling Thanks, Z! I'll have to see if I can get them on this side of the pond. Cheers!

Give me a shout if you have trouble…

Pretty sure that piece of acetate film is for the reflector and filter glass of the gunsight.
The green roundels are for the Pakistani airforce.
As for the two sprue bags: The big bag builds a Mk.V, The small one contains the parts specific to the Mk.II.

Dear Mr HP,
There we go then! I knew someone would be able to tell us all what I didn’t know!
Thanks very much!

The undercarage and wheel wells were a nightmare, [you have been warned] but otherwise it builds into a very impressive modal.
Dear John,
Thanks for tuning in- thanks for the useful tip! I'll look out for this!
Best regards,
Z

Spelt undercarriage wrong now corrected.
Its a big model in 1/32 but well worth the effort.

Dear James,
There we go then!! Thank very much for your help!

The one you’re choosing to build is silver, not natural metal, as the RAF painted their aircraft. Note the fin flash on the instructions (rh view at the top of the page) is the wrong way around, red always leads on RAF aircraft.

@@kurtbarker3303
Dear Kurt,
That fin flash would get missed by nearly everyone. Excellent!
Thanks for the other point- I suspect that the finish I will achieve will be similar to the Mustang I completed a little way back. Not shiny, not glossy, but just right- hopefully. There’s a lot of material skulling about on the net.
Anyway- it’s jolly decent of you to write with your valuable help!
