I so agree about the whole feelings aspect. We're alike in many ways, so it makes no sense to think we'd be different in that way. P.S. Happily, they mate for life but if one sadly dies, the other often finds a new mate for life, rather than being alone thereafter.

Our Volunteers had a great opportunity to record the reunion of these two Trumpeter Swans 717 (Charlotte) and Y37 (Mango) - We work with all wildlife at the park and when we sight an illness or injury with any of these animals, we will work closely with the Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) to get them back on their feet and released back into the wild again!! @@ls-l1518How would they have known that the wound was small? And have you forgotten about infection? Even a small wound can lead to infection and/or blood poisoning, which can then lead to a painful and unnecessary death. This is pretty basic information, it's just common sense stuff.
@@louisejohnson6057 Animals have small scraps all the time. They must have seen that pretty fast. Let them be. Ridiculous. Do you go to the hospital for a small wound? If so, don't. They could have given him an antibiotica shot on site. You people seem pretty hysterical. There are many swans where I live, you think we take them in for days for a small scrap? If it's in hatching season, it's positively bad for them.
Trumpeter Swans are absolutely stunning birds & they are deeply committed to their partner. The life saving rescue of one swan actually saved both of their lives! God bless our heroes!
The news report said that the swans injury was a cut on his beak. And yes, the Toronto wildlife centre do amazing work. We are so lucky to have them up here. This video is so lovely. It just makes you forget all the horror that’s going on outside right now, if only for a moment. We have swans in the park down behind my building and I go down and sit in my car and watch them from time to time. They are such gorgeous birds. Not always very friendly to people, but we’re not there to make friends with them we’re just there to enjoy them.
Swans are also extremely protective parents and will aggressively chase and fight off animals much larger than themselves to protect their offspring. The male will often take an offensive stance and attack the predator, while the female will stay back with the babies vigilantly guarding them.
Indeed. And sometimes they even do it just to defend their territory, even if no chicks are there. My father and I once were on a kayaking trip down the river Elbe in Germany and we encountered a swan who started to display threat signs from a hundred meters away. We slowly drifted down the river and the animal came towards us and then even took off to fly in our direction. We held up our paddles to defend ourselves in case he wanted to attack, but he thankfully landed again and just showed threat displays until we had left his turf. ^ ^ And when I was a child the swans on a small lake near my grandparents' house would put their heads through the fence and grab people's trousers. I was very afraid of them, but my father made it a game to grab their beaks and hold them close until the swans had enough and wanted to get away. 😂 They can be a bit dickish sometimes.
I can vouch for their protectiveness. Many years ago, during a round of golf, I hit my ball into a water hazard which had a small island in the middle, where a pair of swans had their nest. When I tried to get my ball from the water, I was set upon. Then, the players in the group behind, who went nowhere near the water, were attacked even more emphatically. They are always majestic, even when they are angry.
I lived next to a lake with swans. The lake went with the road we had to take everyday. It was not unusual for an angry swan to stop traffic there lol. I found the beavers more annoying, since they would, in the darkness, slap the water with their tail as a gunshot, spooked me countless times
Every now and then I see a clip that restores my faith in humanity. Thank you to the rescuers for healing and returning these beautiful creatures back together.
