A true artist and a technical genius. He's the Davinci of electronic music.
Di Vergent Calm down, it's just his way of expressing his admiration. It's like me saying you're the DaVinci of complaining.
Himbrecht this comment deserves so many likes!
Yet you're still being a smart ass instead of just accepting the fact that we have different points of view.
Himbrecht Hahaha you nailed it :D +Di Vergent So what, he's not allowed to praise him by comparing him to Da Vinci unless he's talented in equal amount of disciples or more? I say every time someone is ridiculously talented in any single area it's enough to praise him by comparing him to anyone. Take your pick. And Stimming IS ridiculously talented, if your ears would be perceptive enough to be able to register that, you wouldn't be writing what you wrote.
One of my favourite producers. Truly a musical genius. Love ya Martin!
To all the new producers This shows you one thing, Know your gear. Your workflow is your best tool. Excellent video. .insightful.
dude the workflow with that pen he has looks so badass.
the pen just looks impressive, the mouse is still king. all that zooming and two hand actions with the pen; mouse, done in one click or two in seconds
especially around 43:00
I freaking love this man's general demeanor and intuitive way of working
Will there be any more episodes with Stimming soon? He is a true source of inspiration and I'm sure every producer out there has something to learn from him.
We've come full circle back to 'writing' music, wonderful, cheers!
Stimming, a master in his field.
I have never been so fascinated. Thank you stimming for doing this.
Like a surgeon with that pen.... "So Mr Piano... Ve have vays of making you sing!!!" Love Stimming what a legend
This did wonders for my G.A.S.!
I´m inspired!
First I have seen of this production style
Pretty Cool video. I love using the Wacom Tablet for DAW, too. Automation drawing is so much easier.
The idea of using the Wacom is really interesting. Would there be any disadvantage in using the larger screen versions (apart from the horrific expense)?
THIS GUY IS AMAZING!! Just came across him last night on Wacom channel.
How do you even remember all this stuff. Insane
Thank you very much FMM for this brilliant studio session. It once again gave very interesting insights. I was especially impressed by Martin's producing skills. What a great musician and producer. However, it leaves me with two questions concerning the audio signal path. Maybe someone knows the answer to them:
1. Why the audio interface (a cheap RME Multiface II)? If I understood Martin correctly he connected the analogue synths/drum machines (via the patchbay) to the inputs of the audio interface and from there to the main inputs of the SSL X Desk (using the mytek AD/DA converter seperatly, namely in the auxiliary inputs for which the X Desk provides, giving a total of 16 ins and outs). Why did he not connect the outputs of the synths (the patchbay respectively) directly to the X Desk without the multiface II stopover? I assume that his studio monitors (very nice ones indeed!) are connected to the SSL X Desk, which therefore presumably already provides a built-in audio interface. Hence, the Multiface II would be unnecessary also from this point of view. Moreover, connecting the audio interface to the computer would be a weak link in the audio signal path and render the AD/DA converters needless.
2. Why the AD-converter (in addition to the other mytek AD/DA converter) at the very end of the audio signal path? If I understood Martin correctly he uses the mytek AD/DA converter to send audio back and forth between the computer and the SSL Desk meanwhile already using the analogue compressors, EQs and pre-amps for mixing purposes. Hence, the only explanation left might be that the compressors, etc. might be used again for mastering purposes. Otherweise there would be no need for a seperate AD-converter at the end, because all the audio recordet to the DAW already is of the very best quality and got only fed into the computer via the AD/DA converter.
he's by far my favorite
By the way on my search I heard the DREWXHILL version of this and I like it, but he needs to put this version out right here....yeah, this version is what's needed in my mental space.
He loves his Wacom CINTIQ he does.
having a swopper as chair is a nice choice , imho the best .
Good lord!! How does he work on such a tiny screen? :O o.O
artao5 actually its better working on a smaller screen for smaller ways to go with the pen
I literally screamed in joy when I discovered this! :D fucking finally!
Spezielle und interessante Arbeitsweise! Sehr inspirierend. Herzlichen Dank.
Makes me wonder if a Surface Pro could be something for him.
Best Session, realy nice Stimming
"Cubase is like white paper, Logic is like lines, Ableton like squares"? For me its the oposite. 10 years Cubase followed by 10 years of Ableton Live here. I ended up hating Cubase menu madness, and Live was my imspirational workflow rescue. The "squares" (I guess he means session view) is a future you are free to use, in ADITION to its regular linear sequencer. You can use both at the same time. I use it mostly as a sample or midi sketchpad/container which I drag and drop from into its linear aranger. Cubase, Logic, ProTools, Digital Performer, these are the classic linear sequencers. Ableton, lately followed by Bitwig, to me, is the contemporary and future standard of minimal functional yet flexible workflow, and it has bin so for quiet some time. Since Live 4. Anyway.. He is a decent producer. Nice gear. Reminds me a little of Minilogue.
what an amazing work flow. makes me really want to switch to using a touch screen :D
Nice! I love his music!
Very interesting setup and a talented guy.
What kind of software frequency analyzer does he use and which brand/type (pmc?) is the small monitor?
MAN... A CINTIQ 27QHD would help me if I do this. That's a very small screen.
He must have super 20/20 vision
A very artistic way to work on Cubase... Seams like he likes drawing or painting...
TIP for FM:
It would be so much better to shoot these videos with real video cams to avoid so much out of focus. You can still shoot at film speed but the focusing would be so much better and consistent... (Panasonic AG-AC90A)
Thanks for your Steinberg Series..
awesome video, thanks for doing that
is that a bioswing ballchair Stimming is sitting on? whats he sitting on?
Like the idea of working with a touchscreen and a pen. Would like to try)
Thanks for pointing this! Will check it
*****
the new models are touch sensitive as well. ;)
I too dislike the mouse but i hated using touch screens with fingers because it's never precise and just worse.... i'm kindof interested in trying a screen/pen combo as well... but with ableton not cubase.
35.00 what the single played i dont now this super song please tel me that is this song???
Stimming in mono... FM THNKX!
It’s like a modern take on the Fairlight pen 😊
I wonder what is his current set up
This dude is a fucking genius.
Was this masterpiece ever released?
I don't like the Remix.
This version feels just right.
THANK YOU !!!
what did he say about the piano effect? what is it?
Hi. What is the screen and pen make you are using? Thanks.
Wacom Cintiq
Stimming, great!
What Reverb did he say he uses at 32:10?
Great producer!! :-)
you could also check bitwig studio on the surface book or surface pro 4 :D best nativ touch supported DAW i've seen so far!!! Bitwig FTW!
DJ FiBa ky
OMG, How I love this guy, no homo, I've been chasing his tracks for so long now. Definitly I'm gonna buy that track when it come out.
when wil this remix, with emphasis on this, wil come our?
how does that screen look if you have sweaty hands ? Using a mouse is still king. looks cool , that's about it.
what did he say he put on the piano at 25:21 ?
+Reel Analysis I think he said "Gaffer Tape"
Does anyone know which plugin is it at 39:30 (vocal sampling one)? Thanks ;) Good video!
same. Managed to decipher GRM Tools. but not sure which plugin... UPD it's Freeze plugin by GRM Tools
would be nice to be able to draw waveforms with a pen in DAWs using monitors
What is the RX3 plug-in he uses at 51:30 to clean the sample please
+Paul Loraine www.izotope.com/en/products/audio-repair/rx/
+EvivEn Thanks
This video makes me feel good about not having to work with Cubase any more.
whats the name of the track i need to get it on itunes
He mentions towards the beginning of the session this is China Tree.
Can anyone tell me how he is recording the sounds he is making with the GRM Freeze Plugin to a new audio track? Like in 41:15...
I would be so thankfull : )
Hi Phiipp. All you need to do is rout the output of the track your affecting with the Freeze plugin to a separate audio track and record enable the audio track. Then while its recording have at it with the effects! I'm actually using Logic but the process should be the same in Cubase. Hope this helps!
Christopher Malhiot
Hey Christoph, thanks for your reply :)
Actually you are definitely right but i don´t know how it is done with Cubase. I tried it for hours yesterday.
Maybe he is sending it out to his outboard mixer and then sending it in again from the mixer on a new track in cubase which he is recording.
I hope someone can lift the secret!
Christopher Malhiot
Hey again Chris ;)
After feeling so dumb for hours i finally got it. Hell Yeah :)
Thank You again! Cheers
Awesome! Glad you got it. Cheers
I have learned pretty much nothing from this session. However Future Music Magazine have other great sessions.
He's pretty clever, have to say.
I don't know who this guy is but this seems really directed in the first minuts when he makes the intro talk.
danron don't know what you said, but if it's something bad, you are wrong. Stimming really knows what he is doing and he could shit on most electronic music producers :)
WTF, WHEN OLIVER HELDENS? BEEN A YEAR ALMOST
FM cant get the big dogs
Garrix was the only relevant guy in EDM that they interviewed, besides Avicii.
bourgeose, porter robinson, zedd, madeon, dvbbs, carnage...etc. where the fuck are they? guess ill have to rely on FL studio tutorials to get real insight till then
RAPEE APE They already did the interview with Heldens (March 2013) but they haven't released yet.
fuck interview. i mean in the studio. in the box
Yeah they did the in the studio video but haven't released yet..
weird..wtf?
who knows the name of the little box with strings that appears in 10:17?
a cigar box with elastic bands and a pickup
Respect!!
Did anyone catch the name of the song? I know it's by Drew Hill
i understood "bullets" by drew hill? But i guess its not finished yet.. might be wrong though ^^
Orewa Joe you can find it under drewxhill in the search.
Those monitors are almost $20,000/pair. A BIT pricey?!
Cool video
31:43 Awesome bassline!
39:27 what is the name of the plugin?
i found it: www.inagrm.com/freeze
Anyone know what the transport controller device is?
www.steinberg.net/en/products/controllers/cmc_series/models.html
Yamaha/Steinberg discontinued selling the entire CMC range late last year. Try eBay if you are really interested. I have them all, but wouldn't recommend them. They still work with Cubase 8 Pro, but at this point you'd have to worry that (since there is no more software development on them) that they will start losing compatibility with future Cubase releases. The fader packs are not worth the money IMHO. The transport and Quick Controller are the ones I use the most.
Sean Thompson "(since there is no more software development on them)"

What you are referring to is a maintenance update to support latest windows and Mac OSX operating systems. It does not include any new functionality. The risk of buying into this platform is that it will eventually fall behind supporting future versions of Cubase/Nuendo. It's currently working fine with Cubase8Pro 8
Yea , you're right, inthis point , is a Gamble...
Nice vid that pen and little screen gives me anxiety tho lol
2:15 choosed :D
Masterclass. Ta.
To be honest I'm not quite convinced by this approach: the small screen and the fact your hand cover 1/3 of it make difficult to tweak a synth or grasp the entire area of channel meters while mixing IMO. Nowadays decent USB mouse are precise enough and movement parameters are tunable. Anyway whatever works for your workflow is good. Just my two cents
His problem with the mouse wasnt its imprecision or impracticality, he's stated before that he just feels that working with the pen is better for him because it allows you to be more hands on and is 'more musical' rather than just pointing and clicking with a mouse. To each their own I guess.
I reckon it would help listening back too. Big screens are mesmerising and distracting
Oberkorn sighting.
Personally I think using the tablet makes unnecessarily complicated, but it's whatever works for the individual I guess.
"auswahl aus datei" = bounce selection ;)
thanks!!!!
Don't end :'(
Niiiice
To each their own but that workflow looks horrible.. Give me 2 large screens and a mouse anyday.
Exactly my thought
Feels painful to navigate with that touch screen
wizard.
Pretty sik setup
Stim god
Hi;-)
Auf deutsch gesprochen, mit englischem Untertitel, hätte dem Video besser getan.
Where is Oliver Heldens with Gecko?? March 2013...

Duncan Harrison flash of mania
Very nice, any body knows name of this VST ua-cam.com/video/JCZa8Y50qac/v-deo.htmlm ???
***** thank you friend
okay: STOP. Really: STOP
Again Germans know their electronic music. Californians play the sweetest guitar, but they should stop their EDM...Techno is a German, House is a Frensh, drumandbass an English speciality!
arguably very american too..
You're making a common mistake there. Contemporary EDM is not a musical genre, it's a cynical lifestyle marketing strategy. More surprisingly, it's not an American invention, whereas (genuine) techno and house actually do come from the States. (The canon is full of US pioneers like Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Daniel Bell, Robert Hood, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, Mike Banks, etc etc. )
I agree that the mainstream EDM scene is next-level nauseating, but just like German techno grew from imported seeds, so did American EDM. That cheesy trance sound, for instance, it's a Dutch thing really ((Tiesto, Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten), same with big room house (Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Fedde le Grand,) and to a lesser extend the shitty sounds of happy hardcore and pop house or whatever you call that hybrid of electronic sounds, cheesy lyrics and verse chorus verse structure.
Other than the music itself, the Dutch are also the ones who turned rave culture into the profit focused entertainment industry that took the US by storm. ID&T, Dance Valley, Sensation etc all had been around for a decade or longer before hitting the jackpot in the US. The reason it works so well in the States might be that there's a huge crowd there with money to burn, a culture of worshipping unmerited fame and a taste for hyped entertainment and saccharine artificiality, but the Americans didn't recognise that money tree before the Dutch demonstrated how to shake it.
Full disclosure: I'm Dutch myself and not too proud of my country being so good at mercilessly exploiting something that is dear to me. We've been doing this kind of thing for centuries (google "slave trade", "amsterdam cocaine factory", "limited liability multinational", "corporate branding", "stock exchange", "foreign direct investment ", "modern capitalism", "investment banking", "short selling" to name just a few examples of Dutch inventions where a shitload of money is made from out of nowhere or from selling questionable services and products.
Then again, our tiny country has quite limited natural resources, it's 5 metres under sea level and stuck between Germany, France and England. You don't have to study Darwinism to understand that moral tenacity is not really in our DNA.
Hertz != Herz ---> Hertz != Heart....... Bad English or lack of knowledge?
this guy is decent !! in many ways! but there is no doubt that he needs a new haircut. he looks like a walking teethbrush dude....
waste of time in my opinion
I own Cubase Pro 8, and I love it, but the approach in this video in my opinion is a waste of time. You can do it but what for???????? STEINBERG, Please create a version of Cubase and Ableton to not to crash in PC x64 version (via rewire).

Mestre !
