I've got the Hero10 and the Osmo Action 3. Hero10 - Overheats all the time, even at room temperature (24-25c) - Literally freezes to a degree that you need to take out the battery to reset - Has some very annoying USB issues when connected to the MediaMod - Literally loses files if you get unlucky with freezing - Picture quality and HDR was better before the recent DJI Action 3 update Action 3 - Never ever overheats, even in way worse conditions. If it does, it's probably a faulty unit - Has a lot more resolution / frame rate combos than the GoPro's - The menus are so much quicker, intuitive, and just work without lag - The mount is so much easier to work with than GoPro's - Picture quality was noticeably worse before the latest update, but it's great now - Don't even get me started on usability of USB-C mics, or even the DJI Mic (wireless) - Vastly superior battery life From where I'm standing, it's really weird that no really big channel made a follow-up since the update. This does feel like they're on the GoPro payroll. Since the update, this isn't even a question for me to be honest. Either you want a camera that works in any environment and (since the update) offers some banger picture quality. Or you want a camera that works in very specific scenarios, for short videos, with limited resolutions and frame rates, all while clunky/slow menus and always at risk of losing videos, freezing or overheating. DJI takes the cake here and the next generations of the DJI Action cameras will (in my opinion) force GoPro to get a grip, fix and innovate, or die.
Great review as always. You make great points on 'who you can trust' when it comes to reviews. Lots of reviewers out there will post a review with lack of details, bias towards the product, 'reviewing' without even using the product etc etc. The difference with your reviews in my opinion is that you have no bias, you thoroughly test before reviewing and you go into depth with the reviews without alienating even 'newbie' viewers which has to be commended.
Thanks for the kind comment! I also am a human being and have my own biases, but try to be open and honest about that. In time I've learnt (and keep on learning!) to objectively analyze technology and look at it from many different points. And I believe that there are a lot of fantastic youtube channels. But am annoyed that some of my favorites have failed to deliver with this one.
I owned both the GoPro 11 and osmo action 3. The action 3 is better in every single way over the hero 11, except focus. If you put both side by side on a test image, you can easily see the action 3 has focus issues. These are well documented and people even have fixes out there on how to adjust your action 3 to get it fixed yourself. I may repurchase one now, I returned my other one because of the terrible focus issues. If I end up being able to successfully adjust it myself, then my hero 11 will likely sit on the shelf.
interesting statement about the comparison. To me it is really hard to imagine that a 4-5 year old SoC can outperform something much newer and in-house designed. Have you compared slow motion between both, for example?
@@alaindupuy9810 I keep checking forums every few weeks seeing if they've definitely fixed the issue, and I haven't seen proof that they have. All they have done is crank the sharpening up to compensate. There are some videos out there on how to calibrate the lens yourself to fix it. I haven't decided if I want to go that route. I already have the GoPro, so I will likely just wait for later this year and see how the action 4 will be.
It has been really confusing few months with some reviews being on the side of GoPro, and others on the DJI side. In the reviews Hero 11 is almost always the winner when he is compared to the Osmo Action 3. But watching some UA-camrs using Hero 11 for vlogs and some daily videos a lot of them complain about overheating, turning off, bugs, freezing etc etc. Also there is few videos complaining how Osmo Action 3 overheats more than Hero 11, and even more videos praising both cameras how good they are with overheating and how long can they record with zero problems. I was really happy to see that DJI went back to the original Action look, and Osmo Action 3 ticks really almost every box in my wishlist of what I want in action camera. Focus/sharpness is the last thing that I am missing. I was really satisfied with DJI Osmo Action 1 image and hoped that Action 3 will be just a little bit better. I am still hoping DJI will either fix this problem by replacing possibly faulty cameras or at least make a statement that camera is supposed to be like that and that is what you get. It is really weird because there are some videos taken with Osmo Action 3 with a later production date and people are in focus and picture is sharper.
some of the action 3 are fine. some got their camera focus repaired. comparing dji to gopro, in standard profile gopro is better, but dji has flat profile and you can get the style you want with that. any camera would overheat, if kept on a table not used outdoors. overheating is overrated. any of these cameras should be good.
The more videos appear, the more opinions you will see. Often - people like to "discover" sensations. We know that if there are problems - people go to the forums and post... All cameras can overheat if they are not used according to the normal conditions. I have never had a Gopro overheating on my hands... Too early to say about Osmo Action 3, because I have it since September, and temperatures in september are not that high. My suggestion: figure out which are the things that matter to you the most. Then buy the camera and make sure you get it from a shop where you can return it in case you don't like it. I personally like GoPro's color science better.
@@TechMishka For me, the best camera would be the mixture of Hero 11 and Osmo action 3 😄 Joking aside, I would buy Osmo Action 3 but I live in Serbia and returning that camera because focus isn't good is almost impossible. Buying it from DJI is much more expensive and shipping it back if the camera is faulty.. That would cost more than buying Hero 11 in local store.
@@truthseeker6804 I have to disagree on the overheating is overrated comment. Not trolling, but I purchased this camera in the hopes of being able to record my son's baseball games, which can be tough on a camera in 100F plus temperatures. Which the kids play in regularly. I have implemented shading, and am even considering USB powered fans for next year. But, the DJI (so far) is outperforming my hero 9 when it comes to heat. -In the summer, I run all cameras at 1080/24 in order to combat heat as much as possible. Getting a full game in 100 degree heat is a tough ask (at least it was last year). Now, this weekend was another story as I apparently exceeded the capabilities of the micro SD card that I had, but I got one game in, and during the second game ran into low writing speeds -meaning no complete second game.
@@mikewelpott8743 action cameras are not meant to be static, but are meant to be in action with the user. if youre gonna record your kid playing sports, get a real camera that has internal fan and a lens. like the sony fx30. then you can zoom in closer to your kid in 4k, static directly in the sun. then you would also get better image quality. yes more expensive, but sell most of the static action cameras youve got and keep maybe one , and get the real camera.
Hello, I live in Thailand and have used a GoPro 7 on my motorbike trips there. But finally just have to give up, mainly because the overheating problems. And as I hear, the same problems still exist on the GP 11. So now I have an OSMO 3, and love it. Can drive all day with screen on, never an issue about overheating. But what I do not understand, how can a fix focus lens be in focus from 30 cm. to infinity? In my mind, adjusting the lens, will it help about the focus issue? From closeup to infinity? Anyway, my knowledge in camera optic theories is a bit limited. I remember had some Kodac Instamatic in the early 80´s with fix focus lens, and it was never in focus.....
I am still testing my action 3. I never owned the hero 11 but I have had 4 other gopro over the years. 5 black, 7 black, 8 black and 10. Had MAJOR issues with the 5, 7 and 8 were reliable but I didn't use them all the time and the 10 was the first action camera that I used as a vlogging camera and I had MAJOR overheating issues. So far in testing the action 3, I have gotten about 35 minutes recording 4k 120 before it stopped recording. The camera never shut off. Just stopped recording. When I filmed in 4k 30 in more cooler temps (40 degrees F) I have gotten over 80 minutes of record time. Both times were far better than the gopro 10 I had no matter the temp. So far I am very happy with my Action 3. I got the adventure combo as well as the DJI Mic. Awesome setup.
I completely agree. I had the Go Pro 10 and couldn't go longer than 20 minutes without overheating in the best of conditions. Sometimes it would overheat in 5 minutes. I've returned it and going to try the action 3
@@ML-Scotsandiegan I had Go Pro 10 and it overheat in 10min. I was filming the birth of my daughter and the operation room is very cold and yet still overheat. Good thing I was able to film the good part before it shutdown -_- and then there the battery drain in/out of the gopro.
You mean the shots outdoors? You are very correct to say this - some of the outdoor shots I did with Xiaomi 12T Pro, which seems to have an issue with the mcpro24fps app.
I am testing both cameras (Hero 11 and Action3) and you absolutely nailed all the points on this, including the image quality. I am going to return on. The Hero 11 seems to have been image quality at least close up, but the Action 3 is so much nice to use and handle, and quality is still good. I just updated to the new build and will retest.
Hey, Great video. Good insight on the instant "reviews" around release date. I had a followup on your side-by-side with GoPro 11- at timestamp 9:34 you showed a zoomed in from video at 120 FPS. Could you show the same zoomed in comparison (outdoor, full sun / shaded) at lower FPS - like 60 and 24 even? I can see that the GoPro is superior here (this is very helpful, no-one has posted anything like this). But I am curious if it also carries into different frame rates. Thanks!
Phyphor, thanks for the question! Generally - the answer is "no" - they are much closer at standard frame rates, especially 24 and 30. With most action cameras there is a more serious image quality degradation with higher FPS, especially 120+. Given the fact that the chipset is fairly old and seems to be overclocked - this is quite a good achievement. Generally - GoPro's main advantage is the image quality in high fps - it almost doesn't degrade, compared to others.
I’m no expert on photography but I really liked the mounting of this camera. I used it first time on my MTB altered some settings and think it came out pretty good.
I just picked one up, manufacturer date 2022/08 I do see the soft focus, only through the dji app, not through the cameras screens themselves. I am curious to know if it's the app itself or is it actually the camera. I will be using a difference editing software and see if I can see the soft focus through that. Any suggestions or thoughts on this?
I want to use this to record my daughters volleyball games and my GoPro tends to overheat to the point between sets i have to swap battery’s and blow on the can to cool it as much as i can. I tend to shoot wide or ultra wide depending on the camera angel i am forced in to. And have had to shoot in 2.4K 60 to get thru a 3 set match. With that in mind does this sound like the possible focus issue would be an issue for my use case?
Dropped my action 3 (well accidentally flicked it out of my motorcycle pannier) approximately 3 weeks to a month ago, directly on to concrete from about 1.5m in hight. As you look at the camera lens toward you, the protective lens cover with the rubber surround got dented on the top right hand corner, looks a bit ugly but the camera has not missed a beat, I was amazed how sturdy this camera is as you eluded to in your comments, Im very pleased with my action 3, it is my first action camera, I have upgraded the firm ware but not trialed it yet. Great review, thanks.
OA3 FTW build quality, user-friendly and good price too, waiting on the sell and I'll get one for sure.😆, Just an average Joe who's enjoying action sport, not a tech guy straight in and out kind of guy.🤙✌️
I'm quite confident this was a manufacturing issue with some early badges. I got my OA3 in november, was out of focus, and turning the lens 15°counterclockwise solved it completely ( ua-cam.com/video/qW3vU78CfAI/v-deo.html - kinda tricky to DIY, without special tools - it needs some force to break the glue that is holding the lens in place). Shame on DJI for not getting on top of this and shame on reviewers who keep silent about this... That said, if you buy it now, it should probably be fine (later badges), or you can just return it right away and get a replacement if it is out of focus. After I did this fix I am very satisfied with the camera.
You have a good sample, which is in focus. What is the production date on the box? Some other reviewers definitely had defective cameras. One UA-camr screwed off the lens itself from the camera and adjusted it. It was then in focus. The lack of transparency from DJI part is disappointing. Anyway, I like the camera, the mount and so on. I have the Action 2, which I wanted to return, but I had no time. It stopped recording in 11C water with a message that the environment temperature was too low. No Problem with the GoPro. I wonder if I can trust DJI regarding the water resistance of the Action 3. having 2 ports/doors instead of 1 may increase the chance of accidental leaks. | I am happy with the latest GoPros' image quality. But DJI makes so much easier to change settings and presets on the fly. And the magnetic mount as well is great.
Hey Stefano, was looking forward to your opinion! My unit was purchased an hour after the camera was announced and it is from the September batches. I watched these videos - the guy even posted a tutorial, but I think he overestimates the skills of most people and to me - this clearly is something that will void the warranty. Honestly, I am still not convinced whether I will replace the camera or not. If you look at the photos at the end - there are some areas which appear to be blurry. Videos have been horrible at the start, then some updates have helped. Now I am not sure whether they increased sharpness in order to reduce the amount of RMAs or to really improve the image... Some DJI representatives claim there is a "known issue", some claim that there is no such thing. The perfect camera would be the GoPro processing and color science and the DJI build quality and mount 😇😇
@@TechMishka since the GoPro feet can be replaced, some company could make a DJI magnetic mount to screw at the bottom of the GoPro. What I miss using the GoPros is the dedicated button for presets. In the water with gloves it is easier than the GoPro clunky preset system. Also I remember from the first osmo action that the preset settings were more readily legible on the screen. Anyway DJI should have taken responsibility and been more transparent. It does not reflect well on the company. Are you going to keep or sell the Action 3?
Some of them - yes. I have recorded footage will all three firmware states - the initial one, then the october update, and then - the November update which has brought 10-bit. The first version of the firmware was pretty horrible. Then things got better. I've added footage with all three of them. The bike footage is filmed with the first edition of the firmware in late september.
I'm still looking into whether to buy this or not. Image quality is the most important thing to me so it's a bit of a worry that you say the quality isn't as good as the GoPro 11. I'm new to action cameras and I'm already making major sacrifices in what I'll accept compared to what I'm used to, which is FF and APS-C. I'm so impressed by many features of the latest action cameras though, I'm anxious to get my hands on one. It would be nice to know what sort of sharpening and noise reduction is done in camera, and if you cannot set that in D-Cine profile, they may introduce that option in later firmware (as they did on the Mini 3 Pro drone). Thanks for the review!
GoPro will be the safer choice in terms of video quality. Even Hero 10 and 9 will perform better. If you prefer DJI because of D-Cinelike - then go for it. Their website has return policy, so you can send it back if you don't like it.
I didn't know about the image issue before hearing your comments but I watched videos about this camera by three popular reviewers before coming here and noticed that none of them spent much time discussing image quality, preferring to talk about brackets or other less important topics. Do you think the problem with the soft images can be resolved via software updates?
Usually the first wave of reviews have too many strings attached - people sign NDA and certain companies are good at including some extra terms in order to make sure their marketing goals are being met. Kind of nasty... I believe a hardware issue cannot be entirely fixed through software updates. If it is the lens - not properly mounted - then it is a hardware thing and the affected models need to be fixed. If it is because of the too wide angle and quality of chipset and image sensor - then firmware updates will improve the performance, but not that much.
Thanks Michael. I'm not a vlogger and don't make UA-cam videos. I just need a small, good quality camera that takes decent images on holiday for viewing on a tablet. The Action 3 is perfectly OK for that and at a lower price than the competition. Subscribed
Some units 100% have a focus issue as has been confirmed testing with macro glass on grant. You are right that there is massive problem with camera shill channels on YT. They 100% being influenced / bribed with early access to cameras. Sony, Canon etc. all of them.
I don't understand those professional data, but I believe in my glasses. I have seen comparative video effects GOPRO11 is better than Action3, especially at night. Action3 has better heat resistance and fast charging, but the problem of picture quality makes me hesitate.
Hello , Thank you for your " Optimistic" well detailed review . I delayed my purchase of this nice action camera waiting for an Official or Objective confirmation that the Focusing issue is totally Eliminated .i prefer OA3 over Gopro 11 for its Usability & for the Live View feature when filming from a distance via the mobile App . My question : Does OA3 has a Remote control as optional accessory ? This is important to me . Waiting for your feedback , Regards
Hey Pierre, thanks for the question! I think you do a good thing and this is usually a smart approach, because each and every new product suffers from some issues at the start. As far as I know there is no remote option for the OA3.
You can use "Action 2 remote control extension rod", It comes with a remote control that can be adsorbed. Although it can only work for Action 2 according to its name, I confirm that it can control Action 3 very well. You can use it to switch modes, start and stop recording.
I'm sending back my replacement units, which is disappointing. My Osmo Action 1 is far superior, optically-speaking. I love everything else about the OA3 and I'm hoping it'll be third time lucky when DJI replace my current units. They really need to release an official statement or lose the trust of their customers.
I purchased my A3 from B&H in downtown Manhattan manufacturing 9/22...focus was soft, not horrible...updated to the newest firmware and didn't really notice a meaningful difference. Tried calling DJI to open up a ticket but 4 phone calls and two emails later they have yet to open a ticket...this was 5 days ago...today to recorded a time lapse of my last ride with the 9/22 to return it to B&H...asked them to check inventory for an 11/22 manufacturing date A3 and less than five minutes later the sales person returned with one! Haven't taken it out for a test run but I'm optimistic.
I have both the action 1 and action 3. The action 1 has better focus at 30cm than action 3. It is very evident that there is a lens problem with action 3. I have sent 3 action 3 cameras back to DJI with the same issue.
The sharper image of the Action 1 compared to the Action 3 is not necessarily a problem of the lens but a problem of the bigger sensor of the Action 3. Action 1 have an 1/2,3 Zoll Sensor + aputure of F 2.8 Action 3 have an 1/1,7 Zoll sensor + aputure of F 2,8 So it's totally normal that the focus by 30 cm is better on the Action 1.
Sounds like it's by design, or there really are issues with most units from the first batches. Until DJI issue an official statement - it is all speculation. It could be speculation after a statement too, but ... at least we will know whatever DJI want to disclose with us.
@@TechMishka this will never happen. They replace the ones with the real focus problem because not all have the lens screwed too far in the case. Some of the users don’t even notice being a bit out of focus or blame it to other things. If you can improve the focus by adding a additional lens, it can’t be fixed with a software update. But this seems too difficult to understand for some. So, I wait one more month and order one again.
You are wrong about that magnetic mount: If you use it on a bike you will have lots of vibrations because it is always moving a little bit. Correct me if I am wrong.
@@truthseeker6804 exactly. but the question is if the dji aciton is the best choice for vlogging esp. with the focus problems (or let's say soft video quality). Isn't the pocket 2 better for vlogging because it has autofocus and looks more cinematic because of that (also it has a mic with the creator combo)? Let's see I hope pocket 3 is coming soon...
I like the DJI Action Cameras *but* I hate that you can't buy them and use them without registering them online with DJI. *That is very invasive* Why should DJI need to require every Camera to be registered.? If you're gonna say for warranty or updates don't bother, because updates should come anyway and even if you don't want a warranty and just want to use it, you can't. Other than that privacy violation of pre-registration, *I think the DJI OSOMO Action Camera's are great*
many companies already have this concept and it makes good sense. Gopro do the same too. Also - helps about catching leaks before releases. Helps with finding the camera when lost/stolen. I don't think they care that much about our privacy anyway.
The review shows that the GoPro footage is superior in all respects. I think the Action 3 has design faults and wouldn't buy one unless DJI fix it. They have basically released a badly designed product. I have the Action 1 - there are no problems with it and the images are sharp, sso there's no reason for the Action 3 to be soft as it's the same chips inside. DJI dropped the ball with the silly Action 2 and they have rushed Action 3 out without proper testing. They won't say it's faulty because they don't want to pay for recalls , which is what they really should do and this is poor practice for any company. I would pay the extra for the GoPro 11.
you're not telling the truth ... I bought an OM3 with faulty focus and DJI replaced it with a new one without any problems. They even added another battery magnetic camera holder. Changed camera is fine.
@@TechMishka great vids man, quick question which you probably heared many times: between the wolfgang ga300(100usd), akaso v50x (100usd) and gopro hero7 (150usd second hand) which one would be the best? I would like to not spend over 100usd, do you know any other models around that price range which are better for vids?
I bought the Adventure combo for the extra batteries, the easy vertical mount and I was really pleased with my first test of the camera. I make POV MTB videos and the mounting system is so much better! You adjust the angle then remove the camera leaving the mount in the exact position, so no need then just clip it back on and you are ready to go! Also so far I have only filmed pre firmware, so let's see how the next video looks with the firmware! I had a Gopro 9 before it over heated in hot weather and froze in cold weather! I thought it was worth having a change! Also it I cna adjust the sharpness in post production, but honestly I don't think mine has the soft focus problem!!
7:10 WHAT?? the most of these statements i found saw the quality in these yt commercials and got a unit without proper installed lens.no sharp picture leads to massive disappointment. lens was just to much inside and too close to the chip. if you read just one minute more, you will see that the solutions some found are diopters around the value of 2.0. claiming that some posts about focus problems is a case of not getting the quality expected ist just crazy. newer videos from private users here on yt show, that some fix the focus problem with just turning the lens counterclock a few degrees 5-15° has solved it. ok, after all that, we can say, DJI should have replaced the units and i miss a clear statement about that. that will never happen. only a few independent youtubers blame DJI for that bad move. the firmwareupdate to solve the "image problem" is not even a bad joke, it is a hit in the face of all who spent hundreds for this camera. thank you DJI and all the content creatures for not being critical enough at this point.
I think most of this noise is generated by people who do not own the camera. So far DJI have not released official statement, I can only see some weird sounding comments about "internal parameters".
@@TechMishka i cant speak for those in the forums, but i saw some tubers who did a correction with a lens: ua-cam.com/video/Y3EYDxuxGl0/v-deo.html he did also some other tests. Great video again. I did comnent before on the focus issue and i agree that dji should make a statement. But it also make me worried about dji because if There Was a problem Then Why release a camera when your own quality Control did not mentioned the faults or even take back the first Batch to Fix it. It stays a great camera but These things make me Stay away from dji products for now.. and wait for a New release to see what they learned from This to bringing the Faith Back....
Agreed with truth seeker. There are some companies where releasing something before or together with another brand has a priority over actual quality. DJI have released Action 2 with 4K 60p only, while the ad was stating 120fps. The firmware enabling 120 arrived a few days later.
Great camera with all the features, but picture quality ist still disappointing. I assume the cameras are variing, so quality issues. The question is if you can fix them just by an update, or is something wrong in the optics.
There is a guy from Germany who has posted a video about tilting the lens which may help. Not sure if this will impact the warranty, or the image quality in the edges. I really hope to see DJI releasing an official statement, because until then - we can try to guess and see just part of the picture.
Here's what they said on a reddit post: "Engineering tests determined that certain calibration parameters were too large in some devices, which made the focus distance too far."
Errr - I feel like it is right on time. There have been 2 firmware updates since I got the camera - and the last one has arrived a few days ago. Doesn't change that much in terms of image quality.
it improves many things. But again - if there is a hardware thing with certain amount of cameras, it is unrealistic to expect that firmware update can fix it.
I liked your video and honesty, but... As with most others, you compare with Gopro on image quality and price. My personal experience of Gopro is the same as many others - Very unreliable. I have often wished for a slightly lower quality video - much better than using Gopro and missing shot!?
Hey Bob, thanks for the comment. In fact - I do compare to Gopro about image quality, but also - talk about the design and the mount, and I feel that both are better than GoPro. Also - there are a few references to the front display, where it is also stated that it's better than Gopro. Since some time I am working on a more complete comparison video - because I totally agree to what you say - it is not the image quality only...
Looks like DJI is still squeezing Ambarella's H2/H22 socs. Chips that have been around since YI first used an H2 in their YI4K+ back in 2017. These chips were NOT designed to process 4K120 or 1080P240 footage, so their slow motion output can never match Gopro's GP2. For next level slow motion quality we'll all just have to wait for an action cam that's built around the 2021 Ambarella CV5, a chip that's designed to handle 8K60.
@@TechMishka I don’t know what exattorated means, but if I’m spending that kind of money for an action cam and it overheats and freezes up on me in the middle of an important video, I’d be pretty ticked. Look at how many things you can do with your iPhone including video and it doesn’t freeze up! An action cam only has one job and can’t be trusted to do it! If that’s exattorated,
there is a video training to adjust the lense distanse which then make it focuses.... then it is faulty product and having real issue. anyway some might be alright.
Hey Maha, thanks for the comments. I think there are a lot of fantastic reviewers. But - there are some very vocal, who have turned this great opportunity into an unfair business model.
I purchased my OA3 in november and there was a huge focus issue with it as it came out of the box, this was no "intentional soft image"... The Lens was screwed too tight, I fixed the issue completely by turning the lens about 15°counterclockwise - as shown in this video ua-cam.com/video/qW3vU78CfAI/v-deo.html . Judging by the comments (not just on this video), this is not a rare occurrence. This DIY was not as simple as it seems tho - it took quite a bit of force to break the glue and get the lens to turn - if you can return the unit quickly and easily you are better of just doing that.
Good recommendation (about returning it). Interesting that DJI have more and more statements about firmware fixing the behavior... Still not very clear what exactly is going on.
@@TechMishka Pretty sure DJI just added some sharpening, it does look better, but the core issue is not fixed (very scummy, classic corporate behavior to never admit a mistake until forced to do so). In my case it was 100% a manufacturing issue (me summing up my research and showing results ua-cam.com/video/uN_6SIkRxCk/v-deo.html ). Probably not all units were out of focus the same way - if for example the lens was just 5° off a video with some sharpening might look pretty decent, if it was 20° or even 30° no amount of sharpening is going to fix it.
I also expected better low light, but ... doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately. It's not the image sensor only - there is optics and signal processing involved, where the OSMO seems to not be on par with GoPro.
I just have a feeling gopro paid off fanboys are trying to downgrade this camera . I think the colors look more natural in osmo action . I own both and honestly i turn sharpness to the lowest setting on my gopro lol. Most normal ppl will not even use half of the features on both cameras anyways lol.
1:41 tragic quality vs gopro 11. Gras is blurry not sharpnes :( have u newest firmware with 10bit hdr? And: Why u shot in 24fps? This i sport camera, why dont 60 fps! Please record videos in 60 fps! :)
Editing videos in 60fps is more challenging and looks rather unnatural. But you are right - the better choice for sports. The higher the FPS, the better GoPro looks compared to DJI Osmo Action 3.
Yeah, this is an "effect" caused by the image stabilization - it often happens with EIS. Gopro has the same in some extent, but it is not that notable. The only way to avoid this is to have the image sensor compensating the shakes, like some of the recent iPhone models.
Hey Steve, thanks for the comment. Part of the footage is shot with the latest firmware. If there are no leaves on the trees - this is the new firmware. Most of the bike footage is shot with the initial firmware. I think the last update is the best one, but the footage is still not as good as what a GoPro can do.
@@TechMishka quick magnetic mount, it does not have any bugs, pocket friendly, better battery etc Go pro have lots of bugs, it crashes, sometimes it's audio record late then video and sometimes it does not record after hiting it's button. DJI is far more much better.
DJI have always had good products. We should be able to distinguish design flaws from an issue affecting just some units. I believe crawling for fame by twisting facts is not helpful - and looks like this happened to DJI this time. 2 days ago I was using the DJI Pocket 2 and what I noticed is that it tends to have the same kind of soft look when set to D-Cinelike.
I watched a video about focus problem. ua-cam.com/video/qW3vU78CfAI/v-deo.html Itis a hardware issue. Because the lens was screwed to close to the sensor. Watch the whole video
Thanks Martin for sharing this video! Yeah, I've watched it carefully and it is really great that the problem got fixed. I just believe that this procedure is not supposed to be something that people do on their own (voided warranty, dust in the sensor, scratched lenses, etc); Also - until DJI confirm or deny whether it's about limited amount of devices or a much more massive amount - we're just speculating.
@@TechMishka I used this exact video to fix my OA3. Successfully. No, this is obviously not something people should do on their own (I had to use quite a bit of force to get the glue to break so I could turn the lens). People should just return the unit and get a replacement or money back from DJI (not good enough to leave it on the retailers, that can leave many buyers screwed - bought in a different country, 2nd hand, etc.)
When I inquired about buying this and my concern about the focusing issues I received this reply after a few days: "Greetings from DJI Presales Support. We received your concern from our relevant team. After testing and analysis, our engineers determined that certain internal parameters of the Osmo Action 3 camera were too large. Please rest assured that the issue has been resolved through firmware updates. So feel free to purchase the product." Not sure I trust that reply. I guess I have to watch a few more reviews here on UA-cam. I don't want to have to send one back if I get a bad camera. It's a big PITA. Thanks for your video!
I've seen this response in the DJI forums... Not something that gives any insight on what is wrong. "Internal parameters"... if this is hardware, how is this being solved with firmware?
@@TechMishka It's NOT being solved with firmware according to other youtubers. That lens was screwed in too far in some production runs. That seems to be the issue.
I've got the Hero10 and the Osmo Action 3.
Hero10
- Overheats all the time, even at room temperature (24-25c)
- Literally freezes to a degree that you need to take out the battery to reset
- Has some very annoying USB issues when connected to the MediaMod
- Literally loses files if you get unlucky with freezing
- Picture quality and HDR was better before the recent DJI Action 3 update
Action 3
- Never ever overheats, even in way worse conditions. If it does, it's probably a faulty unit
- Has a lot more resolution / frame rate combos than the GoPro's
- The menus are so much quicker, intuitive, and just work without lag
- The mount is so much easier to work with than GoPro's
- Picture quality was noticeably worse before the latest update, but it's great now
- Don't even get me started on usability of USB-C mics, or even the DJI Mic (wireless)
- Vastly superior battery life
From where I'm standing, it's really weird that no really big channel made a follow-up since the update.
What about the focus issue even after the firmware updatev
Focus issue not resolves in software update @@faizanvlogs07
Have you compared slow motion between both, for example?
how long ago was this cuz im thinking of buying one but im for sure gonna get the care refresh with it just in case
@@diceman3616 just checked there doesn't seem fixed, they obviously recycling the ones they get back so will be a while I'd say😢
How do u notice the focus issue the most? Which settings expose it? I just bought it and it seems ok
@@TechMishka For me, the best camera would be the mixture of Hero 11 and Osmo action 3 😄
Joking aside, I would buy Osmo Action 3 but I live in Serbia and returning that camera because focus isn't good is almost impossible.
The focus thing is an issue affecting the first batches of Action 3. My second unit is perfectly fine.
Glad to see you like your Osmo
I completely agree. I had the Go Pro 10 and couldn't go longer than 20 minutes without overheating in the best of conditions. Sometimes it would overheat in 5 minutes. I've returned it and going to try the action 3
@@ML-Scotsandiegan I had Go Pro 10 and it overheat in 10min. I was filming the birth of my daughter and the operation room is very cold and yet still overheat. Good thing I was able to film the good part before it shutdown -_- and then there the battery drain in/out of the gopro.
Curious, what kind of camera did you use to record this? I notice when you do a close-up of the Action 3, you go out of focus!
c
Yeah, my favorite feature too!
The app shows downscaled image, so the best way to find out whether soft or not is to check on a large screen.

Hey, thank you for the kind comment! 🥳
It might be an issue, but - could be that it is totally fine too.

Is there any focus issue in this dji osmo action 3
I have a second one made in February which looks tad sharper.
Think I'll get one of these I also have a DGI OM 5, thanks for your review. I like to stick to same brands when it comes to content creation 📸
Yeah, makes good sense. DJI's ecosystem is great.
any news in focus issue? im and thinking if this or hero 11 please help me
I'm quite confident this was a manufacturing issue with some early badges.
There is no official news from DJI yet. I also suspect a batch with issues. But... would be nice someone to confirm .
i think DJI Osmo Action 3 is amazing.
👍
@@stefpix not that GoPro is really transparent about its products though...
Hi. Are yur comments based on the firmware update released on Nov 30th 2022? Thanks
@@TechMishka Ok thanks for the tips, I'm still looking at my options including an older GoPro.
Great review and thanks for sharing!
Pleasure is all mine.

Hi, you showed a lens filter - where can I obtain a cpl filter?
There are different combos available on Amazon already

Some people suggest waiting until there are new November or December batches. I still hope DJI will release official statement about this.
I heard, the units released back in summer were having some sort of issues compare to the recent ones
Leonardo, PLEASe share with us how the november unit performs.
Action 1 have an 1/2,3 Zoll Sensor + aputure of F 2.8
Action 3 have an 1/1,7 Zoll sensor + aputure of F 2,8
So it's totally normal that the focus by 30 cm is better on the Action 1.
@@uldmedia it's not sharper it is just not in focus at all.
Sounds like it's by design, or there really are issues with most units from the first batches.
Until DJI issue an official statement - it is all speculation. It could be speculation after a statement too, but ... at least we will know whatever DJI want to disclose with us.
@@TechMishka can explain this vid. ua-cam.com/video/qW3vU78CfAI/v-deo.html

It is on trend now ✌️
@@TechMishka
Ще пиша задължително, само да се докосна до бройка от "новата"партида :)
Прави ми впечатление, че може би около 85% от оплакващите се в мрежата са с adventure combo.
Hmmm, what you say tempts me to try DJI's support 😇
@@TechMishka well some seem to be ok, but I would check it anyway. It seems to be a bit hit-and-miss whether you get a good one.
Excellent action camera
Agreed! Most of its features are lovely.
Amazing
👍👍
You need Enduro Batteries if you tend on using your hero 9 in Cold weather. And as far as hot weather goes did you use any of the mounts?
7:10 WHAT?? the most of these statements i found saw the quality in these yt commercials and got a unit without proper installed lens.no sharp picture leads to massive disappointment. lens was just to much inside and too close to the chip. if you read just one minute more, you will see that the solutions some found are diopters around the value of 2.0. claiming that some posts about focus problems is a case of not getting the quality expected ist just crazy. newer videos from private users here on yt show, that some fix the focus problem with just turning the lens counterclock a few degrees 5-15° has solved it. ok, after all that, we can say, DJI should have replaced the units and i miss a clear statement about that. that will never happen. only a few independent youtubers blame DJI for that bad move. the firmwareupdate to solve the "image problem" is not even a bad joke, it is a hit in the face of all who spent hundreds for this camera. thank you DJI and all the content creatures for not being critical enough at this point.
AND he has a older one comparing side by side with a newer one! its german, but you can follow anyway, he shows the results before and after. here is a easy manual lens fix, just a few turns to solve it: ua-cam.com/video/qW3vU78CfAI/v-deo.html maybe a solution id you dont want it to be replaced. another one who sent it back: ua-cam.com/video/a5RN6Cz8KOA/v-deo.html also sent it back: ua-cam.com/video/yr3UqEUOcRU/v-deo.html and Tamara did also a lot of comparing and tests with older and newer units. comparing older and newer software versions. her channel is one of the iinteresting ones, because she also dives a bit in color correction and grading. ua-cam.com/video/Zgg4FN9JOsc/v-deo.html Tamara sent her unit also back and got a new good one and it seems shes happy now with it.
Great video again. I did comnent before on the focus issue and i agree that dji should make a statement. But it also make me worried about dji because if There Was a problem Then Why release a camera when your own quality Control did not mentioned the faults or even take back the first Batch to Fix it. It stays a great camera but These things make me Stay away from dji products for now.. and wait for a New release to see what they learned from This to bringing the Faith Back....
dji always released unfinished products and relies on updates.
@@TechMishka A swiss guy added +2,5 lens and got better results.
but I have more an overall lack of sharpness
Here's what they said on a reddit post:
"Engineering tests determined that certain calibration parameters were too large in some devices, which made the focus distance too far."
Nice catch! But this means that distant objects should be well in focus. Which in most examples I've seen are not the case.
This video is late uploaded maybe? Coz there's already a latest software update.
Errr - I feel like it is right on time. There have been 2 firmware updates since I got the camera - and the last one has arrived a few days ago. Doesn't change that much in terms of image quality.
New firmware really helps
it improves many things. But again - if there is a hardware thing with certain amount of cameras, it is unrealistic to expect that firmware update can fix it.
All DJI have done is increased sharpening - it doesn't solve the optics problem..
Great action cam.
yeah, quite a good one!
Since some time I am working on a more complete comparison video - because I totally agree to what you say - it is not the image quality only...
mine is fine and i really like it
👍👍
I'll definitely wait until they fix everything oficially, then I'll consider buying it.
You can't focus a fixed sensor digitally.
Not sure if DJI will ever release an official statement. Been a few months already...
@@TechMishka It really is a shame... The OA3 is literally the perfect vlogging device for consumers but their mistake is fatal...
As soon as I zoom in any, I immediately lose focus. I am about to send in my 3rd camera. All 3 are adventure combos from 9/22.
When you zoom in, this is a software zoom and just worsens the quality.
Hey Pieter, thanks for sharing this. Yeah, my assumption is the same and the difference in terms of quality when comparing slow motion is massive!
Hero has overheating issues. DJI has focus issues. So what decent action can is left?
I think both statements are exattorated. Both are great actioncams.
If that’s exattorated,
I watched this on 6 March 2023 and iphonedo just released his review of this cam
Yeah, saw this too. Sadly none of the tricky topics covered...
@@TechMishka yes... All smooth sailing in that video
Focus was a hardware issue - there are TONS of tutorials how to fix it by adjusting the lens on it.
There are a few tutorials and none of them are a fix that will keep your warranty. Also - if it is a hardware issue, DJI should repair it for you.
I just ordered the Action 3 with 10K on and on......................
👍
I like what I see in the Action 3. I will not be buying GoPro again because I find them very unreliable.
Unreliable because of what?
And of course - Action 3 is lovely.
there is a video training to adjust the lense distanse which then make it focuses.... then it is faulty product and having real issue. anyway some might be alright.
Well - might be the case. or not. How do we decide which camera is "faulty" or not?
I agree with you. ... most of the reviewers these days are just liars. ...!!!
I appreciate your honesty 👍
You must have done something wrong in the low lights, DJI Osmo has 2,5x bigger pixels than GoPro11. It has better low light recording than GoPro 11
I doubt GoPro cares that much. It's DJI who messed up this time.
Do you still have to >>>> R E G I S T E R
Both my units are not in focus seems the later batches are better
My unit is among the very very first batches. Did it get better after the firmware updates?
1:41 tragic quality vs gopro 11. Gras is blurry not sharpnes :( have u newest firmware with 10bit hdr? And: Why u shot in 24fps? This i sport camera, why dont 60 fps! Please record videos in 60 fps! :)
Editing videos in 60fps is more challenging and looks rather unnatural. But you are right - the better choice for sports. The higher the FPS, the better GoPro looks compared to DJI Osmo Action 3.
@@TechMishka 😊 i got doa3 right now and i comparing with doa1. Right now for me no diffrence 🤯 but im still testing 😁
It has the lights flickering effect too at 8:52
Yeah, this is an "effect" caused by the image stabilization - it often happens with EIS. Gopro has the same in some extent, but it is not that notable.
The only way to avoid this is to have the image sensor compensating the shakes, like some of the recent iPhone models.
With the new firmware now this video has to be shot again.
@@TechMishka I had to return 2 cameras and finally got a good one.
DJI is much better in most features then go pro.
Interesting statement! So which are these features better than GoPro?
@@TechMishka quick magnetic mount, it does not have any bugs, pocket friendly, better battery etc
Go pro have lots of bugs, it crashes, sometimes it's audio record late then video and sometimes it does not record after hiting it's button. DJI is far more much better.
I agree beta testers are *hole 🕳️
Guys trust me stay AWAY from gopro

There are literally zero recent positive reviews on the mimo app! DJI will go out of business if they continue with this crap.
That was a kind of weak standpoint to make..sounds like he is afraid to piss of DJI.

When I inquired about buying this and my concern about the focusing issues I received this reply after a few days:
"Greetings from DJI Presales Support.
We received your concern from our relevant team.
After testing and analysis, our engineers determined that certain internal parameters of the Osmo Action 3 camera were too large. Please rest assured that the issue has been resolved through firmware updates. So feel free to purchase the product."
Not sure I trust that reply.
