I've been spending a lot of time experimenting with generative music as well - or hybrid generative (I like to have some control and improvisation) myself. Different length tracks/loops that create unique phrasing every time they cycle is what I've found most effective as a starting point. I'm addicted to finding that sweet spot where everything just kind of floats and blends together with unexpected happy accidents :)
This is really really beautiful. Congratulations for a video that demonstrates the versatility of a machine that is probably one of the most complicated and difficult to squeeze. and also congratulations for bringing out the non-techno side of this machine. Clearly it is only as good as the hands that control it.
Wow, Thank you so much! That's really made my day! it is such a wonderful machine. I owned it for 5 years and still managed to find new ways of using it. I miss it dearly. Do you have one?
@@monoseq9797 I've just bought one black mk2 unit from a deal... and this week I've started to learning it. Pretty complex but fascinating at the same time. My idea is to use it either for free improvisation with Yamaha CP88 piano or rhodes, or in combination with OP-1 field and Cian Lonbarde's equipment. Your video was a great motivation. I really hope to create and upload something new with it soon to my channel or IG. thanks for sharing!!
The octatrack pairs so well with Fm synthesis, I use my nord modular with it and I love it. You got me thinking about generative music with this video. Good work here, thanks for sharing
Excellent pieces of music, really smart, genuinely enjoyed listening to this and i'm normally not keen of the glitchy type stuff but this works really well..
Cheers man.I'm preparing myself for a bit of frustration etc. It'll be worth it in the end.If you don't mind me asking,i've noticed something on a video that i watched that isn't going to put me off but has got me curious.I noticed that the bloke on the vid had to twist the knobs numerous revolutions,on the Anologue four,to alter parameters with the sound only altering slowly. It's got me wandering if they can be set to have a more immediate affect or is it just one of those things that you just get used to.
there is a trick but i didn't try yet... i'll try to make the translation from a solution that i have in french.. patch midi in to midi out midi track on channel 1, and in control page 1 and/or page 2 you choose control changes (CC) corresponding to parameters you want to control on audio track 1 And you control CC with Lfo's

Brilliant work, lovely tune.I'm about to buy an Octotrack and analogue four. Can't wait
Alexander Barker good for you mate. They're hard work at first but be persistent! They're both wonderful and deep machines.

Alexander Barker yes mate you can if you press the knob down and twist it does it quicker and by fractions when you twist it normally.
Thanks,i was hoping you'd say something like that.
toni castro my friend, if I had the money then I would definitely buy one. Money money money. :(
Fluff yeah!
cheers brother!
Stunning!
Sub'ed
Really great. How did you do this?
Nice sound !
Do you have lfo on retriger and retriger time too ?
I think so. I love having 3 LFOs on the octatrack.
and do you use midi lfos to have 6 on each track ? :P
what? can you do that?
that would be awesome
there is a trick but i didn't try yet...
i'll try to make the translation from a solution that i have in french..
patch midi in to midi out
midi track on channel 1, and in control page 1 and/or page 2 you choose control changes (CC) corresponding to parameters you want to control on audio track 1
And you control CC with Lfo's
i think it should be simple
and really efficient ! ;)
who needs modular when you can do this kind of stuff !
