Just finished my first week at Flatiron (Denver) - thanks so much for all the videos; I watched them all before I started Flatiron and they really got my head in the right place before the first day of class. And this one will be so helpful 14 weeks down the road. Wish you guys continued success and please keep makin' the vids!
You guys' videos is the most relatable for people who are coming from no coding background. Thanks for documenting your experience, now I'll be applying for Flatiron.
@@mattandphil3957 I've been debating the idea since March, I passed a coding class in college but dropped out due to funds/commute and have been self teaching ever since. I figured I need the extra push & connections that a bootcamp would give me plus the ISA definitely would help me alot. But I'll definitely be looking out for your video.
Congrats! I started watching you guys before and during Flatiron and really enjoyed your videos. Glad to hear you guys got jobs and everything is going well!
Congrats! I just graduated a couple of weeks ago. What I'm doing now, just like you guys did, is getting heavily into Data Structures and Algorithms. Also, practicing more JS than Ruby. It feels like getting a junior position as full stack engineer is probably overwhelming. So, one stack at the time.
I went to a data analytics coding bootcamp at UNCC. I just graduated on June 1st. Now, I am looking for jobs in the Charlotte area. I'm seeing now that this is harder than I thought to get a job smh.
@@mattandphil3957 Yea, and now I'm wondering if I will even get one. A lot of these jobs require experience. I didn't go to a software engineering/web development bootcamp to have an actual portfolio. If I would have known, I probably would not have done this bootcamp.
Liza E. Tillman Yes, we were able to leave our jobs just before graduating to finish the final project and go aggressive on the job search. The whole process is 100% doable if you have a full time job though, just expect it to take a little bit longer to get offers (naturally)!
Hello buddy. I am planning to join a boot camp in Toronto. I am a beginner with fair knowledge of HTML CSS and basics of JS but no practical experience of coding. Can you suggest the best place to go? There are few popular spots like Brain Station, Code Works, Lighthouse labs etc. I am really worried and need some advice before putting my hard earned money
S K hi. After consulting with few people in the industry I decided to self study rather than joining a boot camp. Anyway all the boot camps are online now. There is no point of putting so much money for online education. And honestly speaking.... my self study is going well. It was a bit tough in the beginning but now I am quite comfortable. Boot camps might guide you during job search but there are other ways to do that.
@@katorakhanfrompiggistan2687 thanks man, your reply does help. I am just concerned about spending that kind of money. I will try to learn coding in my free time, after work. I seriously dont know if i am even interested to leaen coding but im just stuck in my job field and desperately need to get a better job.
Nice advice and video! Do you recommend sharpening up your LinkedIn, as well as networking?? The boot camp I am attending really pushes on the LinkedIn part. Sometimes it feels like a drop in the ocean.
Steven Berg the first jobs we took we’re about 70k. Keep in my I got an offer for 85k but ended up taking the one that let me live in a place I’d like to explore. Salary isn’t important in that first year. Just make sure you get real experience is all id say
Congrats guys! Question: have you found any value in learning ruby on rails? I got accepted to flat iron, by I keep being told that ruby is nearly irrelevant these days
Ruby on Rails is beneficial in that it teaches you basics of programming. But in the long run, it’s hard to find a job using the technology. Most rails jobs are looking for senior engineers.
Go to 2:00 , thats where they get to the meat of it

How are things now??
Update?

Sam’s Life actualllyyyy we are going to put a video out next week about whether that’s a good idea or not! so don’t commit to anything too quick

Glad it worked out for y’all. Been following since day one. Okay see y’all in another 7 months. 😂👍🏽
Hahah we promise it won’t be that long, 6 months 😂
Holy 🤬 the boys are back!
Haha been to long bro
would it be a bad idea to go to community college for computer science after graduating a bootcamp?
Anyone have experience of micro verse bootcamp

It's so easy to say "getting a job will be cake" while you're actually in the bootcamp. ITS HARD AS HELL!!

You both were applying for jobs and practice coding throughout the day. Did you both quit your full time jobs after graduating the bootcamp?

Dude did you join a coding course, i am in the same boat as you but i have zero experience in anything related to computers. I am from toronto too

This was helpful! Did you say at the beginning that you chose a lower paying job out of all your offers? What made you go with that option?
which bootcamps did you guys went to?
Thanks for the tips, dudes. Liked and subscribed!
Hell yeah! Thanks Seth
Thanks so much guys
Can you guys both throw yr portfolios in the comments
About to put my deposit down for Flatiron. How challenging was working and doing flatiron part-time?
does the guy on the left live in nc? i think i saw him at a restaurant
I think the bootcamp certificate can be more valuable outside the states
Just found your channel! Great info! Would you disclose the salary range of the jobs you two took?

Look in the description for a job board list and daily job search schedule that we used!!! thx
