    Nuke reenlistment bonuses are more in the 75 to 90k range with automatic e5 at 2 years. Not a bad deal if you like the job

    Hey, can you go to school while on Active Duty? So you wouldn't have to start 4 years of schooling after your enlistment is over. If that makes sense..

    • @jtmnavy
      @jtmnavy  9 років тому

      +Unique Howard yes , its called tuition assistance ,,, google "tuition assistance while active duty"

    I walked into the recruiting station looking for SEALs, even took up an intense workout regiment to prepare for the PST. Very long story short, I ended up with a nuke contract and even though those two fields are polar opposites, I have no regrets and I'm extremely excited about the things that I will learn as I've always had a deep interest when it came to physics, nuclear science, mathematics and just science in general (Chemistry not so much but I can learn to cope with/love it). I go to boot camp in about 7 months but here's a disclaimer to anyone being pushed toward NUKE by their recruiter; from the practice test that you get when you walk in it's basically your recruiter's job to sell NUKE to you if you get a high enough score. In most cases, they will tell you just about what ever necessary to entice you with some being truth, some being polished dirt and others being blatant lies. It all depends on how knowledgeable your recruiter is when it comes to the facts vs the myths. In my case I was lucky enough to have someone who actually went through the NUKE program as an EM in my station who could tell me the hard facts about the program as well as someone who served on a sub as a regular ET which was perfect since I volunteered subs. Neither of these were the recruiter in charge of my paperwork so they had no vested interest in getting me to sign up as NUKE but not everyone will be this lucky so it's up to you to do your own research to separate fact from fiction. Also if your recruiter tells you that you can switch jobs at ANY point after signing that contract that recruiter either doesn't know any better or it is a blatant LIE. The Navy is always in dire need of nukes due to the fact that so many don't get through the schooling combined with the fact that the majority of nukes leave for high paying civilian jobs at the end of their 6-year contract. Also, the cost the Navy spends to train each NUKE comes out to around 750k so their adjective is to get as many service years out of you as possible in whatever rating they put you in within the NUKE program. Cross-rating for a NUKE is next to impossible because they have spent so much training you by time you're in the fleet that at that point they wont generally be wiling to put you back through training for another rating as they actually want a return on their investment. The only way to change rate at that point would be to convince your command that you are actually unfit to perform your duties (medical disqualification from nuclear field) or just plain incompetent and if they choose not to discharge you, don't expect to get the rate that you actually want to transfer to as they will place you based on their needs. What I'm trying to say here is do your research, make sure that it's what YOU really want and don't let money make the decision for you. There's a reason why the program offers such high enlistment/reenlistment bonuses,its fricken INTENSE both during your three schools and on deployment. Now if you actually do your own research, find the hard truth and want it even more like I did then power to you but if you let anyone else or money make your decision then your setting yourself up for either failure in school or one hell of a 6-year stint as a disgruntled sailor. Apologies for the short essay but I hope that I can help at least someone.

    Thanks for answering my question! The bonuses for nuke are tempting, but I'll probably try for CTI instead, because I think I'll find the job more interesting.

    I don't have a Facebook so I can only ask my question on here. My question is for the Coastie. Can he give some insight on what a typical day for a non-rate fresh out of cape may is like? Are the chances of being on an ice breaker greater than being assigned shore duty? Thanks.

    Awesome video as always! Hey I am looking into the AW rate and was wondering what you thought about them? and if most of them are put in p3's or if most are in aircraft that are able to go on a carrier? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

    I scored pretty high too and almost went the nuke route. But because I didn't score quite high enough, they had me take some sort of a placement test at MEPS. I ended up missing it by 5 points. At first I was bummed, feeling all of those could-have-been paychecks fading away. But now, I don't think i've ever been so happy to have failed a test. lol

    Going into the Navy would you need a car ? and would you be able to get braces active duty

    • @jtmnavy
      @jtmnavy  9 років тому

      +YazSnipesMC | MCSG no to the car and most likely no to the braces ,,, although if your teeth were creating a very painfully situation in your mouth while active duty, if its purely cosmetic then no
