JOHN! I found my mistake! The Miles M.20 was designed to carry 12 (TWELVE!!) machine guns in the wings! That's SIX guns per side! Would have been a nasty surprise for the Jerries for sure! And with more fuel in the wings, it could have chased the bombers back into the channel!
@@greenseaships Twelve?! That would have been nasty for sure! Although the plane may have had the capacity for such armament, in the end, the two prototypes only carried the standard 8 .303 machine guns, 4 per side...😎
@@greenseaships Yeah, I just read that they "only" had 8 guns. Which, of course is silly on it's face when you think that 8 guns is still packing a pretty good wallop 🤣👍😁
@@JustwingitRC That's what I'm talking about man! Even just the PROTOTYPES having 8 guns. Even with only 10 guns in service that would have been bonkers! All of this on a plane that barely took 2 months to go from concept to first flight! Making this one of the great 'what ifs' of WW2. Have great day!
@@ModelAV8RChannel For sure Adam, I read that a lot of the early mark Spits had the 8 .303's, then they started to incorporate 20mm Hispano cannons later on. And yes, Barrett always seems to find interesting subjects for his models!

But alas, by the time it could have been ready, the emergency was over. Even though Miles produced the first prototype in 2 months!

@@JustwingitRC I wouldn't be surprised that the prototypes did not carry the full armament.

Thanks for the sendup John! I recommend everyone check out Ed Nash's video on the M.20. Nice concise brief history of the plane.
@@greenseaships Absolutely my friend 😁👍😎
Many Spitfires had 8 .303's. Just depended on the wing, there were several configurations. Very neat airplane to model. Barrett does some neat stuff!
