Lemtrada is different Matt. I'd talk to your provider about his/her recommendations. Different Lemtrada prescribers have different recommendations! That might be a good topic for another vid... I don't know if you'd find this helpful or not: ua-cam.com/video/P8KYwh9aDv4/v-deo.html
My first fall being on Ocrevus. I emailed my doc about flu shot and she said to wait until 4-6 weeks before infusion. I wondered why, and knew exactly where I could find the answer! Thank you!😀
1. must ask your doctor as I can't give you medical advice on the internet 2. the label for ocrevus recommends timing vaccinations in the window above. If you have a vaccination before or after it won't really increase risk of infection or risk of an MS attack, but it might not "fully work as well." Hence the recommendation. 3. flu shot is dead virus, which is good. 4. please see number 1 ;)
After taking my third Ocrevus treatment, I got the worse flare up I've had in years. I also experienced dizziness, nausea, flu symptoms for almost two weeks. Fortunately, I'm back to "normal" again.
I just think your fab Dr Boster I have very active RRMS and im in the UK xxxx just saying hi and thank you for the interesting and helpful videos. I'm also on Tysabri every 4 weeks x
In addition to having MS, I have primary hypogammaglobulinemia (IgG deficiency). My immunologist told me that "the first time you see Flu Shots Available anywhere, turn in and get one". However, that was probably only about 6 weeks after my last Ocrevus infusion. Secondly, I am concerned that if I'm vaccinated that early in the season, I won't be covered by the end of season. Thoughts and comments??
Thank you for this much needed info. It’s difficult to pin down providers and Genentech on the “best time.” What do you recommend regarding someone who received their last infusion at the end of Sept.? Obviously, waiting til 6 weeks prior to my next infusion in March doesn’t help re. flu season. TIA Also, since Ocrevus users are supposed to avoid other immunosuppressants, how are relapses treated (steroids?)? Thanks!!!
Howdy Elizabeth! During the trials patients were treated with IVMP as needed for attacks and there were no concerns. There isn't a contraindications to short course of IVMP for an attack.
Would love to hear your opinion on ocrevus , I currently am receiving the infusions every 6 months and wonder if maybe I should have done lemtrada! Thanks for all the info you educate us with! It means so much !
I just had my Ocrevus in September. Next window of ‘six weeks prior’ would be March 2019 after flu season is almost passed. I don’t think vaccine was available in early August to hit this window. Any advice for those of us who can’t make this timing work? Having skipped the vaccine last year for the first time in 20+ years and then being ill with the flu in February is not a scenario I want to repeat.
my last infusion of ocrevus was supposed to be at the beginning of October, but I am falling into neutropenia, for several days my neutrophils are going up to 7.0, would it be nice to get vaccinated that I did not still not received new treatment ?
Dr. Boster, I understand Ocrevus depletes B Cells. I also understand that B Cells should regenerate every 4 Months. Is that why Alot if patients on Ocrevus feel like "gas tank empty" on month 5? I understand that Ocrevus is supposed to deplete B Cells so as not to antagonize T Cells. I would like to know the connections between and inner workings of antibodies and antigens and how ALL of these play a role.
Hi Dr B, Not sure if you’re still active on this video but have a concern. I started Ocrevus on May 7th. My next injection (first full one) is Oct 22nd 2019. My doctor said to skip this flu season vaccine. Am I passed the window since it’s closer than 6 weeks? My MS specialist said it would just not be effective but I’m so afraid of getting the flu. Had a friend die from flu complications last year. Not sure what to do. If I get it now, within 4 weeks of my next infusion, will I have ANY immunity?
I had my first Ocrevus infusion in mid-August, so to wait until 6 weeks before my next infusion will put me into early January. Am I to just exercise extreme caution during this first half of flu season? My timing stinks!
I'm in the same bad timing situation. My DR suggested skipping the flu vaccine this year, and they would look into modifying infusion dates next year. With covid, my risks are low, since I don't go anywhere other than jobs, and when working, I have to mask up all the time.
No different rules for all three actually! I don't remember but I may talk about this a bit in my vaccination and MS video: ua-cam.com/video/P8KYwh9aDv4/v-deo.html
Thank you for your channel! Question- what is your take on CBD oil? Suffering from ms and it’s weird nerve pain , I don’t want to take anything that’s not natural, I do find I get relief from it. As a doctor what’s your take ?
Is the same for Lemtrada? Ty for sharing this. This seems to be a common question and concern.

@@AaronBosterMD Ty I've never received a flu shot since I've been diagnosed with MS and probably won't ever again just my personal opinion.
Talk to your provider for sure Matt. Flu is no joke.

Let's talk about it Laura.
I'm in the same boat. Infusion on 9.27...
I thought I could get it 6 weeks post infusion
talk directly to your provider Shellee!

Best to talk to your provider Maxime. I can't give you medical advice over UA-cam comments I'm afraid.

I relapsed after tetanus vaccin when I was 14
again in 2018. it's a dead virus but still relapsed
soo what is your explination for that?

Thank you for sharing, I just had my Tysabri infusion on Nov 5. Do I have to wait to get a flu shot? I was going to get one this weekend.
No similar concerns with Tysabri Karen! You got this!
@@AaronBosterMD Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

That sounds like a solid idea for an upcoming video. TY for the idea!
Thanks Aaron. I try to stay away from them anyway.
Right on Ken! I hope you and your are well and enjoying the weekend!
That was helpful
I'm so glad Michelle! #WeHaveMS
So, if you missed the 6 week window to get a flu shot prior to your infusion , would you recommend getting it 6 weeks AFTER Ocrevus infusion or not?
Howdy Crystal. The concern is that if you took it 6 weeks after, the vaccine might not fully work.
