See they made that Boiler easy to service on that first job 😊👍 when I used to change cylinders....I used to removed top tapping...then insert a 15mm pipe with a 90 degree bend...then hose attached siphoned out the whole cylinder in 10mins at a full 15mm bore flow!, then removed with cold feed pipe attached so no leaks!, also if bunged the heating cut an access panel on the side and smashed the coil to drain that into cylinder....This saved me hours over a month of dodgy drainoff washers that never worked !
The gravity cylinder issue is a head scratcher for some, it’s not all about combi boilers is it, great vid and as usual a touch of reality plumbing. Take care and stay safe 👍
Had it before where mains mixer was backing in to cylinder. Then a non return valve on cold feed meant cold water coming over the vent and overflowing the tank. That was a head scratcher 😂
We have the same issue with a customer, water backing up the cold water feed into the cistern, customer has four mixer valves, only two of which are accessible to isolate. I really wondered why if the pressure in the cylinder is greater than the cold water cistern why water would not run up the vent, as there would be less resistance, but I suspect that the pressure in the vent is exactly the same pressure as in the cold water cistern. In this instance its difficult to tell whether its a split coil or a mixer that is passing as isolating the two accessible mixers did not achieve anything.
Great vid. What would cause the hot/cold tap pressures to affect each other when running both? System boiler/megaflo and only a 1 year old PRV which looks clean. Soon as you run hot water the cold slows and vice versa. Megaflo (10yr old) needs re-pressurising every 2-3 months. Can't seem to work it out.
We removed a floor standing boiler the other day and when we cut the return gravity Primary the water would not stop dripping into a bucket all day including the next day all radiators upstairs was totally drained yet the pipe still kept dripping however both tanks were at the same level therefore no overflow issue god knows how long the coil inside the cylinder had been split. Very annoying especially when you just wanna get the job done
@@drpipe I know some brands used to come with the internal plug which you can still get hold of, and City Plumbing sell a cap that screws direct onto some compression threads.

@@drpipe yeah I think most of England has lime! What would you say the lifespan reduction is with lime, 5 years? Certainly causes some amount of problems like that overflow.
Best video on how to replace the valve on a unvented system 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🍻🍻🍻

Oh I see you were trying not to disturb the wildlife. Was David Attenborough telling you to shush 😜. Almost therapeutic to watch, great Doc.

Picked up a second hand older rothenberg eco freezer. Will it do 22 mm. Seems to be working fine
Tidy to have another video keep them coming cheers
Another brilliant video really well explained on the gravity cylinder thanks
Thanks wasn’t sure if it made sense.. on the community post there’s a picture 🙏🙏

Did you call that pressure reducing valve a slag? 😂 glad I’m not the only one although I don’t say it as quietly as you 😇 great vid doc 👍🏻 Keep it up

It happens dude 👍
Soft water back here in Taunton, Somerset fortunately. Seen so many times f&e installed on top of cold water storage tank 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️.
I wished colleges taught properly like you do
Only put out content I’m proud of sharing... Ain’t perfect but it’s the best I got 🙏
That's a good idea for identifying a pinhole but what if the heating feed tank is above the other tank
Isn’t it obvious ?
Tell me then ?
Yes it is now that I think of it, it would work the opposite way around overflow from the other tank I suppose

Got that exact combination valve to change tomorrow morning 👏 great video as always lad
Incredible amount of scale . What’s that over time say 15-20 years?
Maybe more
Great video 👍
Great video as always. Quick question. F & E Tank = Feed and Expansion?
Yes mat
You're very well spoken for a plumber. I would like to know if you consider yourself middle-class? I enjoy your videos.
Pleased you like my Vocal qualities.. Don’t do a class thing.. All equal 🙏
Anywhere I can get them automatic copper cutters 👀
Don’t see too many gravity hot water set up’s these days, was there no temperature control on the cylinder?, how’s your knee holding up?
Knees ok .. no temp control as gravity works off boiler stat.. like for like 🙏

Did you spot your deliberate mistake on the first clip , during edit? done it myself a few times........ old comp nut left on the pipe!
No because I replace always
