I used to watch Caleb back when he first started, spoke calmly to people, and helped them plan out how to pay off their debt. After he started getting aggressive and belittling his guests, I had to stop watching. It just felt too mean, and since he stopped doing the planning part, it didn't seem helpful anymore. So I switched to Ramit (and The Money Guys)! I cannot begin to describe how insightful Ramit's videos are and how much I can learn from the things he talks about with the guests on his show. You can see how much he actually cares about helping people, even just from the way he interacts with them - honest and truthful but with respect. He gets the point across without demeaning them or making them feel stupid. I'm excited to share Ramit's videos with my younger cousins and family, so we can all build rich AND financially secure lives! This is the content we need in the world - people building people up. I hope that Caleb watches this video, feels that defensiveness rising in his chest, acknowledges it, and opens himself up to learn something. I'm positive there's a way for him to get back to the unique and helpful videos he used to make and still succeed as a business. He just has to be willing to do some introspection and decide what he wants his legacy to be. The impact you have on the world matters. I thank you, Ramit, for being a truly positive impact and for trying to open others' eyes, whether you're always successful or not!
Same - I was one of Caleb's OG subscribers. Never missed an episode. I stopped when he labelled a guest as a twink on his thumbnail and he just got a lot meaner. I missed the old Caleb who wanted to pause filming because he thought a guest might be drunk and was concerned that the guest would say something regretful on camera. He cared about his guests back then. Not anymore though. 😢
I used to watch Caleb too and stopped for similar reasons. It devolved into him finding people in worse and worse situations so he could flip out even more than the last episode. Their only goal seemed to become stoking up the drama. It was amusing, in a trainwreck sort of way, but it got old.
Ramit and the Money Guys are a great combination because the Money Guys talk logistics and Ramit talks psychology. Ramit doesn't usually get into the specifics of things like asset allocation, at least not much. But he gets more into what drives behavior and feelings around money.
You missed a great opportunity to spotlight the one guest Caleb had on who was a serial gambler who name-dropped Ramit and used the "Live your Rich Life" mantra the completely wrong way 💀
I found Caleb before finding you and he’s helped our family a lot! We now have 401Ks set up, an emergency fund, and have had 2 debt free Christmases. My husband and I watch both you and Caleb now and it helps keep us on track a lot. You’re different, and that’s okay.
Helping you as the viewer is very different than helping the person he’s talking to in a belittling way in a vulnerable public setting. Glad it helped your family though.
@@kennycrumphis team has an onboarding process where they make sure the person coming on knows how Caleb is and what they're signing up for. It's meant to be a tough wake up call and they're all prepped for that. No one is blind sided by his attitude 👍🏻
@@AubreyYoungs Correct, but then the point of the show is not to actually improve the person's finances. Their finances are exposed and they are treated that way for entertainment value as the primary purpose. The way he performs with guests doesn't help them improve their finances. Caring about their finances enough to come on the show seems to often be the guests first step into analyzing their finances, and the opportunity to talk about it and learn basic financial literacy through his course DOES seem to help. But the drama of the show is not done to help the person, and is more likely to be to their detriment, except for the fact that it's the primary driver of engagement for the show. There are upsides and downsides to the way Caleb chooses to run his channel and content, but its unreasonable to act like the behavior he presents on the show (yelling, cursing at them, name calling, sometimes even downright bullying them, ALL from a position authority) is intended to help them
@hellomynamesninooo6017 they do improve their finances. The average is 7k of debt paid off after one year for his guests and his follow up shows are usually positive progress wise. Saying he doesn't help people is just not true. Maybe he didn't help you and he for sure won't help everyone. But he's hepled thousands of people. I was being stupid with my money and Caleb called it out. I'll forever be grateful for finding him and adjusting my thinking when it comes to money.
I watch Ramit, Money Guy's, and Caleb Hammer for different reasons. Money Guys for general financial and investment advice, Ramit for couples financial advice, and Caleb Hammer for entertainment.
I watch both channels and Ramit has way different guest on. Caleb will have someone making under 40k a year with 10k cc debt, 700$ car payment, spending 1k+ on eating out/door dash while Ramit has households making 200k where one person super spreadsheet budgeting and is worried about spending 10$ on a shirt.
Do you feel like that’s a result of Caleb picking the worst financial guests he can find and Ramit picking the best? Or it’s just a consequence of their branding, e.g build your rich life vs financial audit?
It’s so funny to me that the one conversation Ramit said was good is from one of the most insanely unproductive episodes. I was hoping he was going to be reviewing a full episode, because they are SOOOO much different than the clips. I don’t watch Caleb anymore but I do think there is much more back and forth than these clips show.
A lot of the guests he brings on haven't even watched one episode of the show, they were recommended to go on it by a friend. He brings on poor, uneducated people and profits off them. Tough love is not screaming at your guest and not even letting them talk.
I do agree, Caleb's show is best on full episode. These clips are built up of their conversation of frustration. There are alot of people that needs wake up call and Caleb's show does that. I stopped watching after feeling more negativity, frustration, that's my personal impact.
@@luisniebla5517 I agree. I don’t watch Caleb anymore and this is part of why. The financial situations of the folks that go on his show are so dramatically awful. They literally have ZERO idea of how to manage money. It is a bummer that the style of the show kind of blindsides people. I was under the assumption that all of his guests knew beforehand that they were walking into a room to get yelled at about their money.
I think to Ramit's guests are generally higher income couples whose struggle is identifying a shared financial future and thus live a life of contradictions. They say they want x but do y. Calebs guests are young, lower income people with low levels of financial literacy living excessively outside their means. He reminds me if a slightly more lenient Dave Ramsey. The goal is to get people to understand how not to lose all their money. Ramit wants people to connect with their money and indeed build their rich life.
I really wish you did your research Ramit. The "gotcha" about cooking doesn't land because Caleb has a literal cook book that goes over affordable recipes for meal prep. It also seems like you are cherry picking the parts where he is talking/yelling and not the parts where he actually engages with the guest and hears them out. This video comes across as a poor critique.
I think Caleb's show is not necessarily about helping his guests, but I think watching it could help his audience by showing them clear examples of what not to do financially.
I second that. It was my first proper exposure to financial planning and budgeting rules of thumb/etc. That got me to open up my eyes. Since then, I haven't paid credit card interest for over a year, and will be debt-free (outside of British student loans, which are weird af) within the year. As douchy as his format is, it did push me in the right direction.
It’s really turned the corner in the past 12 months away from being somewhat educational and attempting to help the guest now he just uses it as a crutch against criticism
Yeah it's honestly more about the viewer than the guest. The guest gets railed on, you get entertained, and pick up crums of financial knowledge in the meantime. Honestly, I sometimes hear Caleb screaming at me if I'm gonna do a dumb purchase, then I don't do it.
After hearing Ramit talk kindly to people and they learn absolutely nothing, sometimes I think Caleb is helpful towards his guests. Ramit tries to gently lead people to making large financial cuts when needed but they never want to once they realize it means a lifestyle downgrade.
Caleb Hammer helped me out immensely. I cleaned up my act and took accountability for my spending. Today i have $0 in consumer debt and this year I'm focusing on growing my emergency fund. I needed a Caleb to yell at me and force me to look at the very stupid choices i was making. Some people need hand holding and i hope they find that. But those of us that need an extreme wakeup call have Caleb ❤
I stopped watching Caleb because it felt exploitative. I think the show started toward "Caleb Springer" too much for my liking. That being said, your show and his have fundamental differences. Caleb focuses on typically lower income people who have a mountain of debt to climb out of. You have plenty of people with debt on your show, but typically it's backed with a high income or the prospect of a high income. Personally, I would be very interested to see how effective your approach would be with the people on Caleb's show. The income disparity makes a huge difference on fixed costs and the knot is a lot harder to unravel.
My income is relatively low in comparison, but I never got into too much debt either. The bulk of the value of Ramit's content for me is understanding the mindset and long-term goals of people who are "good with money". I'm specifically looking to achieve a good level of peace of mind for a start, and his conversations with people have been quite helpful. As for the raw numbers - I did maths in high school, I can sort those out fine.
Caleb and his producers have found a formula that gets clicks and engagement and they just lean into it. It's less about personal finance and more about raging at guests for their bad decision-making.
Exactly, it’s what I call junk food content. You might watch it and feel good during the moment while you’re watching it because you see how much worse off some people have it than you, but you rarely if ever take away any real lessons from it that you’ll use later and benefit from. That’s why I stopped watching channels like Caleb’s and started watched channels like Ramit and The Money Guy Show.
It didn’t start out this way. It was far more lowkey and mellow in the beginning which I genuinely loved. But now with its obsession with shock value and rage bait I don’t even watch the new episodes anymore. Only the shorts.
His show evolved from the earlier days and goes beyond tough love entertainment. He found out belittling people gets clicked so he follows where the money is at.
finally an honest take. the people in the comments are trying to defend him with pointing out how different the guests are from here. thats irrelevant .
I like what he does in principle, but I agree with what you say. He also puts so many unnecessary titles like "Simp does X" or Inc*l spends X" which is so childish and clickbaitey.
at 8:00 while I agree with you on a lot of what you're saying I do think you're kinda just doing the same thing towards the creator but instead of being aggressive you're being condescending. Caleb's point from what it looks like is that he is is frustrated with the guest and is having a bigger reaction. If you're going to do these sorts of videos moving forward, it might be worth actually watching the full podcasts or even just watching the lead up to these more bigger moments as you're just taking clips and complaining. I don't watch Caleb anymore because of the same reasons you're describing however what you're doing here is just clip farming. A lot of the time from when I was watching him about a year ago he would build up to this frustration with guests.
A little harsh to say Ramit is condescending, no? I can see where you might be coming from with that word, but he does listen and attempt to understand the guest’s background before responding. Think there’s a difference between condescending and teaching.
Sure, he used to build up to frustration. Then that became his brand and he started finding things to yell and get angry about. It's not necessary in any sense.
Ramit got ragebaited by his own team 😂 Been waiting for Ramit to do a commentary on Caleb's videos for a while! Caleb's early videos were much better. They've gotten a little too mean for my tastes the last 6 months or so. However! I 100% want Ramit to do a full watchthrough and comemntary on the "bandana" guy's 2 videos. The dude was absolutely terrifying.
Different approaches for different folks. After watching Caleb, I paid off 10k in CC debt. He was the one who truly got me to understand interest. Caleb deals mostly with lower to average income singles while Ramit does wealthier couples. I'm single so my behaviour and accountability rests entirely in my hands. Caleb may yell and roast , but guests know what they are signing up for. I personally require a kick in the pants to change or see that a habit truly is egregious
It's shows like yours that help me to remember that views, outreach, and helping the public don't have to come at the expense of respect and kindness. Thank you for what you do, Ramit.
You watch Caleb to for the reality check. You watch Ramsey to get our of debt and spending in check. You watch Ramit after getting a grasp on money and want to live life to the fullest.
I watch all of your videos and all of Caleb's videos. Yours inspire me, Caleb's entertain me. And I don't feel bad for the guests because being aggressive is his brand. Guests know what they are getting into. I don't mean they deserve it, I don't know if it works, but it's not unexpected, it's not bait and switch. But yeah, his content serves a different purpose to me. I watch your videos with my financial plans, pen and paper, and I watch Caleb's videos doing the dishes.
I would love to see you bring on some of Caleb's former "guests" and help them. Really dig into their situations. For the most part, I think your guest and Caleb have come from different areas of life. I used to watch Caleb all the time but the content lost its relevance in my financial journey.
Caleb has always been grating, but absolutely lost me on his bullshit economic takes. Like it’s easy to attack people’s spending. It’s the equivalent of basic math, calories in calories out, which number is more. But it doesn’t give you the expertise to speak competently on broader economic principles.
I used to watch him a lot and his channel helped me wake up and really focus on my credit card debt but his incendiary conversations have gotten so much worse and it’s not relevant to me anymore. Also, I don’t like how he talks about debt is a moral responsibility and thinks you should pay back every cent you borrow. He dislikes the idea of student loan forgiveness for this reason.
Outside of your generalized insult towards people who lean a certain political way, I like how therapeutic your approach is. But Caleb is who he is, and those who go on his show do so because they know they need a tough love approach. He's helped a lot of people, and he genuinely cares.
I think his approach actually brings people to the finance world. Yes it's on the back of the guests with though love entertainment. But people that have no financial literacy and no interest in financial lingo. Can enjoy Caleb content and even feel inspired to change. I read the comments and that happens. I like it and the guest that accepted going already know what's his style.
Verbal violence is not tough love!! this guy is toxic as it gets. but I guess that when you have guilty pleasures like watching people suffer, then it is easy to not see the big problem. probably the same people that see the kids in Gaza dying and say "thank you god because it is not me" you guys are psychopaths!!!!
Caleb has said in episodes before that he reacts the way he does to shock these people into understanding how much they are destroying their lives. He also makes sure to connect his guests with what ever resources he can to help them and bring them back on to his follow up channel to see where they’re at in getting out of debt and give more advice if necessary.
These shorts don’t do Caleb justice These shorts are jus clickbaits to watch his full videos. Yes he’s harsh but these guest already know what they sign up for when they come on. He does break down everything, ask questions and do follow ups in his full videos
Stopped watching Caleb a while back because it was not enjoyable as he’s gotten more and more intense (a caricature of himself). Appreciate you talking about the radicalization that happens to people when they start being rewarded by the algorithm. It’s a very real thing.
While the selection of clips may not show it, Caleb does actually ask a lot of questions of his guests, he does differentiate between the person and the behavior being "dumb", he does have a cookbook and meal prep budget he puts out there, he has budgeting, debt, and investment courses. He claims that the average guest pays off something like $8k-$10k within something like 6mo-12mo of coming on the show. He has discord servers where he and his team stays in contact with former guests and supports their journey. He's often connecting guests with free resources including therapy, financial advisors, certifications, etc. He has an onboarding process so that guests know what they're getting into, and he gets their explicit consent to "throw jabs". Often, it seems like he even has them approve the thumbnails. Many people in the comments share how his videos have opened their eyes to their own debt and spending habits and helped them to improve their financial situations. While I don't agree with all of Caleb's methods, I don't think Ramit has enough context from just these few clips for some of the criticism he shares.
Caleb said he made a show he wanted to watch lol - it’s a schtick and the guests know what they are signing up for which is why they are so calm and laughing on the show with him
I remember the early days of Caleb, he was harsh, but the whole rage was not there, the show just got transformed to get the most views, people seem to like this way.
You got it right it one. The first need a reality check and leave with a budget and opportunities to build themselves up. Caleb makes sure there's no confusion about the person's personal habits before giving them free tools to make a better life for themselves.
Especially the bandana guy. Bandana guy definitely made a good point in that clip, but that is the only nugget of positivity you’ll find from him in either episode he appears in
or YOU should consider why you would want to watch someone who calls women disgusting in thumbnails lol, not to mention all his allegations are starting to pile
Mr. Bandana ended up stalking Caleb, calling and emailing up to 40 times per day. If I am remembering correctly, he also was arrested for threatening to kill a governor? 😮
Caleb Hammer got me into watching financial videos on UA-cam. Then I watched Money Guy and now Ramit. I know more about money than ever, so I think Caleb is a net positive to the world.
I was subbed to Caleb Hammer until about a year ago. I did learn a lot good financial information from him but over time, I started to get irked by the way he treats his guests. Most of his videos are basically "Let's all laugh at this clown who makes bad financial decisions." Great for entertainment, not the best method for helping people fix their money problems.
I agree with Ramit, treat the people that are asking for help with respect. I subscribe to Caleb when he had less than 200k subs on UA-cam. But I stopped watching his videos when I started seeing videos of him where he was providing commission to his early guest. He was also trying to "help" one his 19 - 20 year old guest with connecting him with a man that wanted "intimate" favors. When I heard the voice note of this, I was disgusted with Caleb.
Correct me if im wrong. Didn't that guest want to get into onlyfans? I know there was a situation he was trying to connect someone with OF connections and there was some drama behind that
@ColbyGreen94 I think you maybe talking of another one. The one I followed didn't mention anything about only fans. The guest provided all the voice notes Caleb was sending him. To each their own on what they want to do with their lives. But I just didn't believe that Caleb's intentions with his guest were really to help them.
Especially when he kept asking for likes and subs to get to the next level of subs in each of his videos. I'm not sure if he still does that. Caleb's show is his business. Be honest with yourself if you had a financial business to help your guest would you do it the way he does? Would you be offering your guest offers for them to pimp themselves out for intimate services?
@21GAbyOtA i would have to know the full context before I could fully agree or disagree with you on that. Id have to look for the incident you are referring to. On the surface, no, I wouldn't run my hypothetical show that way. As for asking for likes and subs, that's just him playing the UA-cam game. I dont dislike a creator by seeing they had an ad read. It may be a bit annoying, but that's just how content works today.
exactly lol. i was dating someone who loves his content and because she has trauma heavy and was on the spectrum. she didnt understand why two men she worked with, one being me, did not fuck with his content. calling women disgusting...or bimbos on thumbnails. nah yo, hard pass. and I knew he would have allegations too since I work in the field of abuse and can spot an entitled person a mile away. he's cooked
Caleb and Ramit seem to hold the same core perspectives... perspectives which I believe are rooted in objective common sense and basic math, but Ramit approaches things in a much more respectful, mature, and tactful way.
The biggest problem I have is that although he knows he selects the worst of worst guests he uses his anecdotal evidence as support behind stereotyping people American financial habits. His inability to realize the selection bias is crazy
Thank you for doing this Ramit! Finally someone with a degree giving a take on the toxicity of Caleb. He now calls people the r word. Like this dude went full incel. Thank you Ramit!!! I always recommend your content to everyone!!
I’ve watched Caleb for a long time now (and still do). Unfortunately, over time the show has become less about finances and more just entertaining. So I still watch for the entertainment, but come to Ramit for real advice. I would also argue that Caleb intentionally brings people on who have really bad finances, are single, and immature for the entertainment. So his approach/show makes more sense knowing that. While Ramit brings on more mature couples who already act like adults.
He’s so mean to everyone now it’s hard to watch. The older episodes are better, he would attack their bad financial decisions rather than personally. Now it’s just him screeching at the guests about all the reasons he dislikes them like their voice their face etc. I wish Ramit released more content cause I’ve listened to all his episodes at least twice 😂
@ Agreed! Caleb has gotten a little more self-aware about it in recent months, but there was a stretch last year I would just skip episodes that had too much screeching and attacking of the guest. Over time it also has seemed like Caleb has gotten a shorter temper, which while entertaining sometimes is not always fun to watch. Second Ramit having more content. I love the podcast! I call Ramit my online financial therapist 😂
Each type of media serves a different purpose :) I would have never been interested in these slow and smart videos like Money Guy and Ramit if I hadn't been hooked with the dinamic, funny and loud Caleb Hammer videos. It's like getting into cooking all your meals after you grilled your first homemade burger, of course it's not healthy to then only eat hamburgers, but I wouldn't have been interested in attempting a quinoa salad the first time I approached cooking.
I started my financial education late in life with Dave Ramsey, and his process helped me to get debt free. Then I found Caleb and at the point I feel his content is a feel better about yourself kind of experience a after watching his videos episodes. Then I found the Money Money guys and Ramit. I feel Ramit context is more aspirational to me and good motivation to stay focus but enjoy life at the same time. All this to say, all of you guys are some point have helped me in my journey and I am truly grateful for your content.
For someone like me, that made so many mistakes -out of pure ignorance and unwillingness to learn- Caleb's style of "tough love" worked like a charm. There are still times when I feel like making a stupid purchase and I hear Caleb yelling at me, so I just calm down and back off. Or I hear Ramsey's "you can't afford it, you're broke". So it works, even if it's mostly entertainment content. :)
@@CosmicEliphantI watch every single Caleb episode. In the last 2 years 95% he will shout and call someone stupid. Even when it isn’t warranted, and even his fans point out when he’s doing too much.
@KiingM I guess it perspective. I've watched every video he's posted and just about every follow up episode as well and I do not believe he shouts 95% of the time and I do belive when he does it's warranted. Guest sing up for the show for that reason, it's apart of his formula for correction. Imagine if you've watched as much as you say, you can see that.
Responding to clips vs responding to Caleb's actual help is a bit wild. Caleb makes sure that people understand the problems with their views on money, then gives people actual plans they can move forward with and start using immediately. Ramit just hopes people to figure it out on their own.
Ah yes, let's preach about not radicalizing the subject of money but yet throw out a blatant insult against people who don't have the same political belief as you. Makes sense. I like your content Ramit, bought your book, too. But was that really necessary?
People who really want to help and educate people will never call people names ,humiliate them and try to kick them when they are down . Not everyone grew up with people around them who educate them about money. These things should be taught at school but they do not.
A hard mattress is what I lacked for years. Having a hard mattress when my back hernia was hurting for 8 years + helped heal. A proper pair of shoes (not expensive but something that helps with your back pain) + good mattress are IMPORTANT. You spend 5-10 hours a day in those shoes + 5-8 hours sleeping. Both are extremely important for your life quality. They are not a luxury but a necessity!
I enjoy both channels but I think Ramit needs to watch more than just a 30 sec clip because he would see that Caleb does let most of his guests talk and share their views but 9/10 times they’re just spewing nonsense and talking over Caleb
You're channel is also a little easier on guests that sometimes need a harsh wake up call. Some of their situations are scary and saying "ah well i dont see a problem with that" to the small, fundamental financial issues they're making isnt helpful for the bigger ones.
Your guests are very different on each of your shows. Sethi: smart guests with high income just want some psychological advice about money Caleb: delulu young person who walks dogs 3x week making $3k per month wants to fly to Bali every 3 months.
This is so timely for me! I used to watch Caleb, got really into learning fina ces, then got sidetracked by velocity banking to get out of debt quick, didn't manage it well, and derailed at Christmas. I just started watching Caleb again 3 days ago, ready to get back into the financial game and make 2025 the year I make a huge step in getting out of debt. I bought Ramit's book over a year ago, got through about 10 pages, got sidetracked, and never went back. Now, I'm going to get back to it! Thanks Ramit!
The last clip regarding beans doesn't include that Caleb ACTUALLY gives his guests meal prep plans and recipes that allow them to cook filling, nutritious meals within their budget.
I watch Caleb and various other financial episodes along with Remit. Caleb is loud but effective. His guest income is more the norm than Remit’s guest. I relate more with Caleb’s advice to fixing their finances than to Remit’s because my income is not 6 figures. How about having guest whose income is under $50,000 and see how your financial advise can still work. I also appreciate the information on this podcast as well
Caleb was a gateway to watching you, money guys, and a couple other financial creators. And as for him not knowing how to cook, maybe, but he provides all guests with a step-by-step meal plan and budget based on the local TX grocery stores. So he puts his money where is mouth is in that aspect. He does go too far on some videos but his formula is doing good for many. And a little bit of entertaining, too.
I believe his advice is worth watching and he just goes about it in a different way. I watch you and him but his is slightly more entertainment value. These are also shorts vs his videos and I do enjoy seeing his follow up videos with guests. What I enjoy about your style is the couples push and how to have those tougher conversations.
I have been a long-time subscriber to both you Ramit and Caleb, and I have to say both of your approaches are great in their own ways! In defense of Caleb, his guests are completely aware when they apply to be on the show that they will be verbally punched about their financial decisions. It’s what makes his content entertaining. He is helping his guests and audience though by shaming them (shame is a great tool to light a fire under some people’s butts) and shining a light to problems that a lot of the guests on Caleb’s show ignore intentionally or unintentionally. It’s tough love and this approach does work on a lot of people, myself included. It’s definitely not kind, but some people need the berating and whatnot in order to get out of their victim snowflake mentality and make better decisions.
I don't have a lot of respect for the way Caleb interacts with people. But I don't think his persona is a caricature. I think how he presents himself is mostly a reflection of how he actually engages with anyone he disagrees with on a topic when he thinks he knows better. I don't think he has the discipline yet to engage in a more respectful way which will more likely help people, even if he cares more about helping people than getting a lot of clicks. Obviously he cares about clicks too. But I think he'd prefer to excel at both helping people and getting engagement. And right now he mostly helps his youtube viewers rather than the people he directly engages-with in the videos.
I agree with your last statement. Viewer don't want to make the mistakes the guest are making so they make changes without getting screamed at because they see their own flaws in the guests.
I think you should review full episodes! When you say he doesn’t ask questions, I disagree. The clips on social are meant to bait, but he really does try to show compassion. He had a good conversation recently about the “why” and not just the “do”.
Yeah Caleb has leaned farther and farther into schadenfreude as time has gone by. Your show is obviously exponentially more thoughtful. If I'm looking for a palatable version of the same format as Caleb's show, I think Romaine Faure has a great channel as a middle ground between your channel and Caleb's.
One of the things to think about is the kind of entertainment people want. Does Caleb help people? Yes he does. But his primary purpose is entertainment!
I think you have to watch the full videos because some of guest can be entitled or insufferable and he does have conversations with them. And some people need to be yelled at for information to get through their hard head. Some will have break throughs from the tough love methods
Dietitian here. I wish I had a dollar every time a client/patient tries to justify that eating fast food is necessary because they "don't have time to cook and it's cheaper". I'd be really living my RICH life then. People will justify, to themselves mostly, that they also have NO time to exercise either, but they spend 3 hours a day on Instagram, Facebook, or Netflix. I feel you, Ramit. I get your frustration.
I think this is a case of watching the full episodes, not clips, would help tremendously in understanding Caleb’s actual approach. He asks a ton of questions. It’s the guests that almost never have a legitimate answer.
I personally watch your content and Calebs to be honest I agree with you in some parts but your a bit rough on him... He's content is over 1 hour long and your taking a 20-30 sec content and ripping into him... I find Caleb deals with more crazy cases where the people just don't understand simple concepts. Your content usually has more educated guests.
Love you even more now after this video. Caleb used to be good, not just shaming, yelling and belittling people. We need positive reinforcement here, the psychology of money understanding. Thank you for all you do.
Ramit you are so right about not buying a house with someone if you’re not married without speaking to a lawyer. The rights you have as joint owners of a house vary legally depending on a lot of factors, INCLUDING marital status and what language is in the documents.
the reason why Caleb don't ask questions is because he doesn't know anything!!! this guys does not have a psychologist degree nor a finances degree! the moment he starts asking questions, is the moment people will see he cannot help with nothing!
The difference between you and Caleb is that the guests on your show tend to make a lot of money and it's easy to tell someone with a lot of margin to fix things. With Caleb it tends to be younger lower income people who need to be screamed it at that things are not working. They know what they sign up for, and his data post show tend to show that it works
@ramitsethi in general I agree, but if you don't watch full episodes, he brings on a much different kind of guest then you do. He brings on people who that need a kick in the pants. Everyone who goes on the show knows what they are getting into, and now that he has a follow-up channel most people who come back have made great progress. Different people react differently to pushback.
@@ramitsethi The guests are briefed that they will be screamed at. They are his viewers they are very aware of the type of show. Not to mention that according to him on average his guess end up in a much better financial situation in the end. So I guess the metrics prove this opinion to be wrong. He also sets up his guest with tons of free resources. Your politics are showing Ramit.
Not watching a full episodes and going off of click bate clips isnt great. Love both channels and watch both. CALEB makes finance easy to understand and once you get it, you've got it Calling mr Taquitos knowledgeable is hilarious
i do not love someone who is constantly calling women disgusting and other names in thumbnails. plus he already has accusations. its only a matter of time
Watching the full episodes wouldn’t change anything. Ramit separates lack of knowledge vs dumb decision making. Caleb does not separate those two things. He thinks it’s an excuse. The lack of compassion argument would still hold for Ramit.
Dude Calebs whole videos are about yelling at his guests and calling them dumb, stupid, idiot.Calebs show isnt even about finance anymore, its just about yelling at people.
I agree that Caleb’s content nowadays is more for entertainment purpose but I feel like he has a more diverse clients age wise from young to older and people can learn what not to do with their finances and can see the effects of not being financially responsible. Caleb also has great follow up videos of his old clients.
I watch caleb for entertainment value and showmanship, not for compassion and understanding. I watch your show to understand middle and upper class couples and see into the eyes of well off people who are bad with money. And finally, I watch a smaller finance guy, Romain, for the compassion. I don't learn anything from these, but they are good entertainment.
You’re totally right Ramit,Caleb 100% gets off on calling people dumb and stupid. Also, the difference of how harsh he is towards women vs men, clear sign of how much he hates women.
I think Ramit forgets the guests he has and the guests Caleb has are VERY different. All of Ramits guests make over like $200k a year household income and accidentally overspent on their kitchen reno. Caleb’s guests are unemployed, steal money from their grandma, dodge calls from the IRS, and have $600k in money mart loans.
Check the comments section on every video and see how many people changed their approach and paid off their debts! Similar with updates every Thursday.
I prefer Caleb's ads and the links and connections he gives to guests and to people who watch his shows. He should watch Brents episode or any full episode before critiquing based on 30 seconds. He has the guests watch videos and is completely transparent on how the show goes, and guests are involved in choosing the titles for their videos and the names they're given. He has lots of different resources to help his guests.
My wife is a solicitor in the UK who specialises in the fallout of non married people (partners, family members, friends) purchasing property together. You definitely need to get legal advice before purchasing a property this way.
Ramit: Treat people with respect, even when they're wrong! Also Ramit: The 77 million Americans who voted MAGA in 2024 lack the sense of a third grader!
expressing his opinion on his own show is different from choosing how to interact with someone in person. If a MAGA person was on his show he WOULDN'T lash out like that even if he'd be tempted to, which was his point.
I think caleb knows that this doesn't help the guests much and he unapologetically tells everyone upfront that they will be roasted. That's the format of the show. Also, fortunately or unfortunately calebs show is how I was introduced to the world of personal finance and somehow it made these things accessible. And then i discovered this channel which is definitely properly helpful. But honestly it's a bit tough to relate with the guests on this show since they are mostly too rich!
Same. I liked old Caleb and now the reactions and guests are just too much.
Ramit and the Money Guys are a great combination because the Money Guys talk logistics and Ramit talks psychology. Ramit doesn't usually get into the specifics of things like asset allocation, at least not much. But he gets more into what drives behavior and feelings around money.
You can tell when it stopped being about finances when he started spending the first 30-45 minutes just prying in their life for drama.
You missed a great opportunity to spotlight the one guest Caleb had on who was a serial gambler who name-dropped Ramit and used the "Live your Rich Life" mantra the completely wrong way 💀
Which episode is this? I must watch lol
@mariatovar8631 it's a video from about 4 months ago, the title starts with $216,000+ in debt

Same here. I watch only these 3 channels.
Haha same here for the same reasons. I also occasionally watch Humphrey Yang.
Completely different target audiences
Do you feel like that’s a result of Caleb picking the worst financial guests he can find and Ramit picking the best? Or it’s just a consequence of their branding, e.g build your rich life vs financial audit?
@@KiingMI think Caleb/his team picks people for entertainment value first and actual teaching financial literacy second
@@KiingM Its both branding, but also, anyone that shows up on calebs show is confirmed to be in trouble.
Ramit has had lower income people in his show as well.
Yeah I was like I caaaaant believe he likes Brint
Caleb has done content with one of Dave Ramsey’s people, you’re not far off with that comp.
Yep, its the Family Doctor Versus Going to The ER.
Exactly just a different niche
It would be cool if some of Caleb's guests came on IWT. I would watch the hell out of that!
He kinda did that on his netflix show. He saw good progress but ofcourse he had a lot more time with them.
Caleb and his producers have found a formula that gets clicks and engagement and they just lean into it. It's less about personal finance and more about raging at guests for their bad decision-making.
It can help some people but no considerable change is easy. I wouldn’t enjoy this.
Bingo
So it can't be both? Have you listened to a single follow-up? Ppl do actually make progress.
The Jerry Springer of financial podcasts.

Caleb Springer is what we call him! 😂😂😂
I came to make the same comment!!
👏👏👏
JERRY JERRY JERRY JERRY
His show evolved from the earlier days and goes beyond tough love entertainment. He found out belittling people gets clicked so he follows where the money is at.
finally an honest take. the people in the comments are trying to defend him with pointing out how different the guests are from here. thats irrelevant .
@ exactly. I’m not even hating. He is following where the money is at. I just personally don’t support it but to each is own
Caleb Hammer is literally just the Kitchen Nightmares of personal finance nowadays.
I like what he does in principle, but I agree with what you say. He also puts so many unnecessary titles like "Simp does X" or Inc*l spends X" which is so childish and clickbaitey.
thats the point lol, hes trying to grow a youtube channel and needs people to click
Caleb had mentioned he gets permission on the titles from the guests before launching.
@@sleeplessjache gets permission to make the titles in that style. Unless it’s changed again the guests do not approve the actual title.
at 8:00 while I agree with you on a lot of what you're saying I do think you're kinda just doing the same thing towards the creator but instead of being aggressive you're being condescending.
Yeah that's what I was thinking.
A little harsh to say Ramit is condescending, no? I can see where you might be coming from with that word, but he does listen and attempt to understand the guest’s background before responding. Think there’s a difference between condescending and teaching.
So, if your boss is frustrated with your work, you’d be okay with them yelling at you and calling you stupid?
Sure, he used to build up to frustration. Then that became his brand and he started finding things to yell and get angry about. It's not necessary in any sense.
Ramit got ragebaited by his own team 😂
Been waiting for Ramit to do a commentary on Caleb's videos for a while!
Caleb's early videos were much better. They've gotten a little too mean for my tastes the last 6 months or so.
However! I 100% want Ramit to do a full watchthrough and comemntary on the "bandana" guy's 2 videos. The dude was absolutely terrifying.
You're the only financial channel so far that isn't right-leaning, thank you for being brave enough to not bend the knee.
THIS!!
The Financial Diet is also pretty good
Different approaches for different folks.
I feel like Caleb reminds me to stay disciplined and meet helps me dream
I would love to see you bring on some of Caleb's former "guests" and help them. Really dig into their situations. For the most part, I think your guest and Caleb have come from different areas of life. I used to watch Caleb all the time but the content lost its relevance in my financial journey.
The way Caleb's guests are portrayed as clowns on his thumbnails has really turned me off of his content.
I can remember the last I watched a video from Caleb in its entirety. It used to be decent, now the titles and sessions are just so cringe
Caleb has always been grating, but absolutely lost me on his bullshit economic takes. Like it’s easy to attack people’s spending. It’s the equivalent of basic math, calories in calories out, which number is more. But it doesn’t give you the expertise to speak competently on broader economic principles.
@anamaniac that is when I stopped watching. There was something about that change that turned me off.
Yeah, I think the same..
is calling women disgusting in thumbnails ocnsidered tough love now? lol

These shorts don’t do Caleb justice
These shorts are jus clickbaits to watch his full videos.
Ramit discovering Caleb has totally different guests. Like night and day.
Caleb said he made a show he wanted to watch lol - it’s a schtick and the guests know what they are signing up for which is why they are so calm and laughing on the show with him
exactly. Caleb is really clear about this when he invites people to apply. He's like "I'll yell at you and we'll have some fun." They know what's up.
I remember the early days of Caleb, he was harsh, but the whole rage was not there, the show just got transformed to get the most views, people seem to like this way.
You should watch a full episode. The clips don't do caleb justice. The guests are much different from your show than his.
Couldn't agree more. Very different guests that could certainly need different approaches
You got it right it one. The first need a reality check and leave with a budget and opportunities to build themselves up. Caleb makes sure there's no confusion about the person's personal habits before giving them free tools to make a better life for themselves.
Especially the bandana guy. Bandana guy definitely made a good point in that clip, but that is the only nugget of positivity you’ll find from him in either episode he appears in
Caleb is still an asshole tho. He just insults how his guests look without any good reason
or YOU should consider why you would want to watch someone who calls women disgusting in thumbnails lol, not to mention all his allegations are starting to pile

What you are explaining at 4:36 is exact reason why I stopped watching Caleb and started watching you.
Never run to a new video so quickly!!

Caleb actually makes a point to respect his guest and explains why he talks the way he does.
Did your team only send you his explosive clips? Because it's not just that on his show. He only dogs when quest simply don't get it.
📣📣THEY SIGN OFF ON THE FACT HE CAN ROAST THEM.
Doesn't make it right
13:06 bro, that girl was only feeding her kid food from Whole Foods on a pescatarian diet because she refused to buy frozen salmon.
Can be risky going over Caleb’s guests without watching the whole episode. They choose the worst examples on purpose.
Ah yes, let's preach about not radicalizing the subject of money but yet throw out a blatant insult against people who don't have the same political belief as you. Makes sense. I like your content Ramit, bought your book, too. But was that really necessary?
Agreed. Don't know why he had to insult a good percentage of his audience with that comment.
Facts because clips don’t do Caleb justice at all. They’re just clickbaits to actually get you to watch his full videos
Caleb's strategy to help people is based on math and shaming. Ramit is amazingly skilled at the psychology aspect.
You're channel is also a little easier on guests that sometimes need a harsh wake up call. Some of their situations are scary and saying "ah well i dont see a problem with that" to the small, fundamental financial issues they're making isnt helpful for the bigger ones.
Your guests are very different on each of your shows.
Sethi: smart guests with high income just want some psychological advice about money
Caleb: delulu young person who walks dogs 3x week making $3k per month wants to fly to Bali every 3 months.
Bandana guy was not a “knowledgeable guest.” He was a permanent victim who had every excuse why nothing would work.
@@pixiegirl131415 It's just that some of those excuses happened to reflect reality. Broken clock and all.
Brent's follow up was like 50 minutes of arguing, bro is insane 💀
30:20 he actually has a cookbook as part of his budget plan.
I love how it feels like he's channeling Caleb's unhinged energy in this commentary 😂
One thing I will defend is the cooking, they do provide a meal plan to all of their guests afterwards.
Ramit the shorts are nothing like the main channel vids. He asks tons of questions. He gets their understanding and perspective
He still yells like crazy, though
Bro…
@@AlexCaronis sis?
Dog have you seen Caleb’s recent videos? Caleb has completely gone off the rails. His old videos are a completely different personality.
@@dylanfogarty2771 have you seen them? The shorts are 1% of a 90 minute episode.
Love Caleb - especially when he freaks out.
He really doesn't. He pinpoint the frivolous things and never gets into the meat and potatoes
Caleb has a cook book for budget friendly meal preps
I personally watch your content and Calebs to be honest I agree with you in some parts but your a bit rough on him... He's content is over 1 hour long and your taking a 20-30 sec content and ripping into him... I find Caleb deals with more crazy cases where the people just don't understand simple concepts. Your content usually has more educated guests.
No. You dont like bandana guy. Trust me.
This MS Paint napkin contract had me rolling 😂
Lower-income people do not "need to be screamed at."
@@nerophenthey are briefed now after the backlash Caleb had from guests after episodes
Not watching a full episodes and going off of click bate clips isnt great. Love both channels and watch both. CALEB makes finance easy to understand and once you get it, you've got it
Calling mr Taquitos knowledgeable is hilarious
i do not love someone who is constantly calling women disgusting and other names in thumbnails. plus he already has accusations. its only a matter of time
aww are you the one Caleb called the R word? cause now that is his thing
Yeah, but these are clips put out by Caleb's channel, so that's completely fair. These are the clips he and his team chose to highlight.
Ramit using Caleb on how he truly feels on his guests on his podcast LOL Mr.Wonderful vibes...
I like you, Caleb, and Ramsey for completely different reasons. lol Dave is the O.J. You gotta give him some props man.
Ramit, I would love to see you have a conversation with Caleb in the near future.
You’re totally right Ramit,Caleb 100% gets off on calling people dumb and stupid. Also, the difference of how harsh he is towards women vs men, clear sign of how much he hates women.
The way these comments are hitting the head on the nail. This is exactly how it feels watching his show
I think Ramit forgets the guests he has and the guests Caleb has are VERY different.
Ramit should focus more on single people that need financial help... couples usually have the advantage of two incomes.
But isn't it interesting that more income alone doesn't solve anything?
Guests know what they’re getting into when they sign up to being interviewed by Caleb. Don’t feel bad for them at all.
As we already seeing he was right. Next 4 years will be a wake up call, talk about voting against your best interests
@@Noellep You clearly have never read Ramit's X feed. I get that Ramit leans left, fine. But he needs to take his own advice.
@ToddVenable No, I haven't read his feed. I'll check it out.
When are you and caleb sitting down for a chat would love to see that
I think caleb knows that this doesn't help the guests much and he unapologetically tells everyone upfront that they will be roasted.
