- The Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg is the largest and most spectacular stadium construction site in the world. The icon of the FIFA World Cup 2010 will host the opening and the final matches.
The innovative Austrian company Rieder Smart Elements (which has a factory in Kolbermoor, Germany) made a significant contribution to the construction of the most important world cup stadium in Africa by realising the glassfibre reinforced concrete facade in native African colours.
Almost one year before the kick-off to the 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa, the last fibreC panels of the envelope of the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg have been mounted. On Monday 27 July 2009, the Rieder team in South Africa brought the installation to a successful end. A team of 150 local workers are fine-tuning the glassfibre reinforced concrete facade to ensure that it will shine in the eyes of billions of viewers, as they watch the opening match of the world championship on TV screens across the globe.
Rieder secured the commission from the architects of the soccer stadium, not only for its economic and holistic strategy, but also with its creative vision and sustainable product. - fibreC. In addition to its technical and aesthetic solution, the application of fibreC to the facade surpassed other international bidders with its eco-friendly qualities.
fibreC is a concrete panel, reinforced with glassfibres, which enables the efficient construction of aesthetically impressive and sustainable building projects.
Me watching this 13 years later 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you to all the incredible builders, engineers and architects that came together to build this stadium. What a facility!

11 years wow
@@spottube6459 I don't remember writing this. After watching almost every AB game over a 30 year period, sadly I stopped watching rugby about 5 years ago. The card system has effectively killed the game and turned it into a lottery.
@@Tehui1974 Please forgive my ignorance, what is the card system?
@@AjaySalmon I was referring to seeing a growing number players receive yellow and red cards for innocuous fouls. I want to see sport, not a court room drama.
@@Tehui1974 Oh I see, thanks for your clarification. I agree, cards need to be rarer and utilized better.
@MusicGeneration2008 what houses did they break down? Are you saying that people lived inside or adjacent to the previous stadium? You do know that Soccer City was built exactly where FNB stadium stood right?
beatifull
@MusicGeneration2008 It looks like a desert because it is built on an old mine dump.
Metallica just performed at this stadium today!

White elephant stadium
I need you in my country
@beatdathaguy98 i can tell you why it looks like a desert. They banished the people who lived there and broke down their homes..
No there was a stadium there already.
As the person that shot 80% of the clip above, I can tell you nobody lived there - unless you refer to the 80 when they build FNB stadium - which was submerged into the new stadium. Have a look: vimeo.com/305201780
