I AM WILLING TO GIVE THIS A TRY... NO FAULT ON YOU...
Diffusion and a beamguide will make it show up alot more clear
Are you planning on making more to sell? Or a video on how you made it? I agree with the magnet comments, and also the battery option - I'm not that great when it come to electrics, so I wouldn't want to be messing with the power supply.
Helps if I read your comments fully. Ignore me asking if you are planning on selling it
I think this is quite a nice update i want one 😅

@@MrDIYca i usually don’t leave my k40 unsupervised but this would allow to ALWAYS find the right spot without having a “testshot” and even when drawing a frame for the future cut/engraving
💯
Use magnets instead of screws and a pair of double A batteries or a step down from a nine volt battery.
Then simply remove it when not in use for calibration or startup. If you are worried about forgetting to take it off, put a timed buzzer on it or esp32 and have it send a notification to your phone.
You are worriing about the laser starting a fire, but in the same time use the laser with the lid open where the laser in an instant shorter than it needs to light a paper to flames could blind you permanently?
The CO2 wavelength is not very harmful compared to even a simple laser pointer or those very popular blue laser engravers. The wavelength does not pass the lens of the eye, so a direct strike being FOCUSED on the eye will give a burn that heals, once it enters the lens of the eye, the damage on the retina will not heal.
Why exactly is this unsafe? Because you use the built-in PSU? Because the laser to hit the PCB?
I'd buy one of these in a heard beat FYI :D Even if it was a magnet one you place on for short periods of time. Aligning a K40 is such a pain because it's slow (tweak, close, fire, inspect, repeat).
Ya, if not executed properly, it has the potential of causing a lot of damage. You sound like you know what you are doing, however, you will be surprised how many don't.
