Its produced from grains. Which requires water and also depending upon food demand ethanol production will have a limit. Food demand, available land and water shortage are the factors that can limit it's production. Utilizing stubble for bio fuel sounds a better idea. That can also be used in hydrogen production.

But lifestyle for environment is most important too. Means to adopt a life style which can put down our energy needs to low level. ie- how to make your house which needs low energy cool and many so

Ethanol can be added only 10% to 15% in to the petrol. NHV of ethanol is half of petrol so the fuel economy of ethanol if used 100% then it will be half of 100% of petrol. So ethanol is not the perfect solution. If hybrid (petrol plus electric) cars are used fuel economy will be doubled. Braking power and momentum are used in charging battery of hybrid cars. Let’s move in the right direction.
We need to bounce directly to Electric. We have abundance of solar energy. In china buses, trucks, trains, cars, and bikes are electric now. As we didn't go for Subways directly jumped to metros, in the same sense we need to directly jump to electric and hydrogen fuel.
I think we should focus on solar energy....ethanol fuel can produce scarcity of food and water in our country.....kuch salo k liye to hum ethanol use kr skte h but long term k liye hume koi another source dhundna hoga... so kyo na hum solar energy pr koshish kre
Ethanol is also produced by remains of food crops that are not edible and usually go towards burning or animal feed . It wont effect food supply in any ways instead reduce wastage
Sugarcane based ethanol is not sustainable in the long run. We need to go to stage 2 and, more importantly, stage 3 biofuels. Also, we need to concentrate on the production of biogas, which can help to reduce the dependence on imports of natural gas.

Ethanol is produced from multiple crops (in sugarcane it is byproduct, so can’t be overproduced): Ethanol, a type of alcohol, can be produced through various methods, primarily involving the fermentation of sugars by yeast or other microorganisms. Here are the main means through which ethanol is produced: ### 1. **Fermentation of Sugars:** - **Corn-Based Ethanol:** Corn is crushed and then fermented by yeast to produce ethanol. This method is prevalent, especially in the United States. - **Sugar Cane-Based Ethanol:** Sugar cane is crushed, and the juice is extracted. Yeast ferments the sugar juice to produce ethanol. Brazil is a significant producer of sugar cane-based ethanol. - **Cellulosic Ethanol:** This type of ethanol is made from cellulose-rich biomass sources such as agricultural residues, wood chips, and municipal solid waste. Special enzymes break down cellulose into sugars, which are then fermented into ethanol. Cellulosic ethanol is considered more sustainable as it utilizes non-food crops. ### 2. **Fermentation of Starch:** - **Potato-Based Ethanol:** Potatoes are crushed and then fermented to produce ethanol. This method is used in some regions and for specific types of alcoholic beverages. - **Wheat-Based Ethanol:** Wheat grains are processed and fermented to create ethanol. This process is similar to that used for corn-based ethanol. ### 3. **Hydrolysis of Starch to Sugars:** - **Barley-Based Ethanol (Used in Brewing):** Barley grains are malted, where starches are broken down into sugars. These sugars are then fermented by yeast to produce ethanol. This method is commonly used in the brewing industry. ### 4. **Chemical Synthesis:** - **Synthetic Ethanol:** Ethanol can be produced through chemical synthesis methods, including the hydration of ethylene, a petroleum-derived compound. However, this method is less common and not as environmentally friendly as biological methods. ### 5. **Algae-Based Ethanol:** - **Algae Fermentation:** Algae can be genetically engineered to produce ethanol. Algae consume sunlight, carbon dioxide, and nutrients to produce sugars through photosynthesis. These sugars can then be fermented into ethanol. Algae-based ethanol is considered a promising source due to its high growth rate and potential for large-scale production. ### 6. **Hybrid Processes:** - **Integrated Biorefineries:** Some facilities integrate multiple processes to produce ethanol. For example, a biorefinery might combine traditional fermentation with chemical processes to maximize ethanol production efficiency. ### 7. **Electrochemical Processes (Emerging Technology):** - **Electro-Fermentation:** Researchers are exploring electrochemical methods where electricity is used to drive the fermentation process, potentially making ethanol production more energy-efficient.
