My Traffic Signal Intersection

  • This is a vid that's been long overdue. As you can see, my traffic signal collection has really grown and I've graduated from modules to an actual control cabinet! From left to right, we have a 16" Dialight LED countdown pedestrian signal (model 430-6479-001X), a 12" poly McCain "doghouse" signal, the control cabinet, a 12" poly McCain 3-section signal, as seen in my previous videos, and a 16" GE GT1 pedestrian countdown signal, also seen featured in my previous vids. Although not seen, the controller is an EPAC. All the ball LEDs are GE RX-11 modules and the arrows in the doghouse signal are GE model GT1 (all the LEDs are labeled model "DR6" or "DR5" on the back, for some reason). Currently, everything is set up in a timed manner, since I don't have any detection devices (yet...). There's also no special programming currently set up with this (i.e., preemption, flash mode at night, etc.), I just have it set up to constantly cycle (I do turn the signals off when I'm not in the room though. Currently the Dialight ped module doesn't have a housing for it, but I do hope to get one for it soon. I also took the cover off of the GE ped signal module so that it's more easily viewed. Also, the reason for the reflection in the modules is because I have them covered with window tint because they're so bright. They're still fairly bright, but the tinting has taken the edge off the intensity so that it's more manageable.
    With all that said, enjoy the vid!

    Nice! I also like the Dialight countdown signal; they recently installed a few of them in Boston. Lately in my hometown of Brockton they've been using Dialight signals when doing full traffic light overhauls/new installations at intersections, so it may not be long before those pop up as well (the latest installations just used non-countdown single 12" housing pedestrian signals, because they have relatively short crosswalks, and the old signals weren't timed that long.)

    The GE model numbers DR6 and DR4 are indicative of half of the lens diameter. So DR6 = 12" diameter lens and DR4 = 8" diameter lens. The four letters that come after indicate the color and spec like RTFB is Red Tinted Full Ball and GCFB is Green Clear Full Ball. Arrows are denoted a bit differently but the rest is pretty standard.

      +Tyler Copeland Depending on where you live, They are still popular. Florida still has a heavy preference for them, But where I live in Washington, they are rather seldom, especially with the Yellow Flashing arrow. But The dog houselights will probably not be phased out, because they work well for right turn signals.

      Tyler Copeland I think, if the dog house signals were to go away, I felt like Red Flashing arrows would have been better. I think The US is the only nation in the world that uses Doghouse signals and Yellow flashing signals.

    nice setup, do you have a video showing the controller cabinet insides? also what are the dimensions of the cabinet, I am looking for one but usually too big, yours looks like a great size. thanks

      +Ken Lacey I don't have one yet, but I'm in the process of moving into my new house, so it may be a while before I post a vid showing the guts, but I'll make a mental note to make one when I find the time to do so!

    How do you hook it all up to the Eagle EPAC300. Is that the only unit you need to make the lights function? Or do I need that and a few more units hooked all together?

    • @weatherdan882002
      @weatherdan882002  7 років тому

      The short answer is that and a few more units hooked together. How the wiring goes, I'm not sure, as i had friends help me with the wiring and programming. In addition to the EPAC300, you also have a conflict monitor, and a bunch of load switches.

    Hi, nice setup! I was wondering how you wire the arrows... to a separate phase? an overlap? Im new to this. I have an eagle epac 3000. Thank you

    • @weatherdan882002
      @weatherdan882002  8 років тому +1

      The arrows get wired to terminals that correspond to a separate load switch in the cabinet. As for how to configure the controller to allow it to operate that way, I'm not sure because I had a couple of people program it for me. If you message me, I might be able to refer you to a couple of people who can help you out.

    Bet you don't have one of these. Electronic Steerable Beam (ESB) Traffic Signal Heads. Do a search for Intelight. I didn't either until I purchased 17 last week from a small city in Iowa. If you want one contact me. Dual Voltage AND motorized steerable lens.
