Me and my wife bought a gold 2001 Limited 3.0 V6 brand new in Sept. 01 with 21 miles on it for $30,046. We have had it for 23 years and it now has 300,242 miles on it and runs excellent. does not burn or leak anything, same starter, alternator, everything works fine. changed the exaust system with the cats at 230,000, new 02 sensors as well, was getting sluggish., timing belt and water pump at 250,000. This thing is a solid roadworthy smooth riding no rust vehicle. We have towed boats, trailers and everything in between and it just motors on. still gets 24 mpg. I wouldnt trade it for a new one. Best buy of our lifetime. Been all over the U.S. with it. 3 kids sports and things for years and it will never die..Highly recommened! Wish I could show you pics. still looks new.

Last year ,I got a 05 Highlander 3.3 V6 model with 90K+ mileage as my daily driving vehicle, very smooth driving experience on highway, powerful V6 engine give it a good acceleration. I just finished my Maine road trip with this "old friend" and I drove it for over 2000 miles during this trip, everything in this vehicle was still very soil feeling, even I did 50 miles off-road. I sprayed rustproof paint and wax on all the chassis parts and wish it will stay with me in the next few years.

Yes, I bought mine new & only have 102,000 miles on it. I did have to replace the alternator & decided to replace the belts at the same time 3 years ago.
One think is if you start it right away it will squeal which is annoying. Turn the key on but only once & let the seatbelt chime play. Then start it up & it won't squeal. Something the do with the computer & the new alternator not communicating quick enough. My teen grandson found that out for me in UA-cam. He even set up the phone, Radio, etc when I bought my new 2019 Camry. As we were riding I asked him how the Cruise Control works & he said he didn't know because he was only 14. Lol

I miss mine so much 😭 my parents got the limited 2006 hybrid when i was a kid and we moved states in it. I learned to drive on it, and then my parents let me take it to college. I did everything in it. Camping, skiing, some offroading, commuting through lots of traffic, long road trips to other states. I loved it so much.
A stupid kid totaled it by backing out of his driveway without looking and i couldnt stop in time before his trailer hitch ball caught on my front corner, went theough my headlight, blew my tire and broke my axel all in one go. I cried for days. I wanted to keep it forever. I would love to have another and i see them for sale sometimes but im not sure if i should go with the hybrid again or not.

Yes, expensive to fix, at least if you're getting OEM parts and having a certified Toyota tech do the work. That legendary Toyota reliability comes at a higher cost, parts are outrageous and labor is getting more expensive especially since pandemic. @@ericrichards9471from what I've heard the best oil for that sound would be Valvoline Restore & Protect which many have reported cleaning up the engine and lessening or eliminating that sound with the VVTI rattle/piston rings... Or start with some good old Valvoline synthetic blend high mileage in the red bottle and go for the restore & protect after that for a few oil changes before going back to red bottle high mileage. Hope it helps your MZ-FE as well. Best of luck to ya. If none of that helps, go for the blue bottle of Lubeguard BioTec Oil Protection from O'Reilly's or anywhere online and add half a bottle to your oil

@@ericrichards9471 No problems with valve adjustment. Only corrective maintenance I've done myself recently was replace the two knock sensors and the MAF sensor.
I've used different brands of 5W-30 as long as they meet the spec in the manual. Kirkland, Mobil 1, Toyota. Biggest thing is I replace the oil every 5000 mi. OR 6 mos. I attribute the great reliability to that one thing.

I'm currently driving a 01 Toyota Highlander to work. Its had the Struts, Rotors, Break pads, CAT, Drive Belt, EVAP, Fuel Injectors, new Tran Fluid. & 5 new Destination Firestone Tires. I provided it with the Coil On plug, Spark Plugs, PCV Valve, Valve Cover Gasket, air Filter, Cabin Air Filter, & i change the oil a good 4,000ish miles because it STILL burns oil. However the car is at 294,××× & counting.
I drive a good 45 miles a day to work and back. I work 5 days out of the week. Thats already 225 miles added every week. Multiply that by 4 weeks or 1 month & its 900 miles. But also a trip to the gas station is a good 5-7 miles depending where i go. Thats another either 20-28 extra miles added from the 900 miles already.
    So within 4 months , i drive a good 4000ish miles & i change the oil myself.
Currently using Castrol Ultra clean. But right after that I'm all in on Pennzoil Platinium High Milage.

Also, we're the original owners of the car. That engine is known for oil burners because of the Piston rings. Like I said, it still burns oil, but it sounds new & feels new still. Now it's at 299,××× miles so it's almost going to the 300K mark.
